Still Luke Teal for me, another good game, been good for Richmond VFL.

Imagine someone with these strengths in our back half or even on a wing

STRENGTHS:

  • Kicking
  • Composure
  • Agility
  • Decision making
  • Consistency
  • Defensive accountability
Thanks.

An awkward size at 190cm, but his lockdown capacity interests me just as much as his reported kicking.

Seems to already have a Clarko link too, given he's playing alongside his son.
so if he's that good, anyone in the know as to why he wasn't picked up in the draft?

The guy who I thought was best on ground on Sat in Bergman is 189cm, Goater who I think is perfect for the modern game is 190cm.
Tom Stewart is arguably the best defender in the game is 190cm.
Exceptions to the tweener defender rule.

Lowson for me. Gets about a bit, knows where the goals are and already has an Arden St. carpark permit - so administration work minimised there :) Gives us a different avenue to goal. Imo. Or something. BWWIK??

Can you think of anybody we should look at with the rule change?

How mature is mature? I'm 53 but can still run a wing, not afraid to tackle and I have been gifted with a wand of a left shoe. Can't quite manage a 50m ball anymore, but go ok on footy trips

Maynard, Dawson, Blakey, Acres, Hayden Young, Cumming, Angus Brayshaw, and Bailey Dale are all exceptions too?
Sicily, Maynard, Wilke and Hayden Young all around the 190cm.

All different types, but it shows that being 190cm is not a disadvantage.
I don't know anything about the boy, and I respect the view of those who have seen him play, but these stats don't scream 'pick me'; obviously different types, but Lowson sits 5th on the goalkicking leader board as a small forward, and we've got a bigger need there than we have for medium defenders. When your VFL coach describes someone as the most dynamic player in the VFL, I hope the list management team are listening

I won’t be disappointed if we add Lowson.
Regardless of who we pick, I hope we pick the best 2 available mature state league players as rookies at years end.

Lowson would be a great addition too.

I'd just make the observation that our non-KPF forward line is actually looking pretty decent for 2023.
Zurhaar, Sleevo, Sheezel, Thomas, George, Curtis... And that's without a probable addition of Nick Watson.

We have a lot of medium defenders, but how many do you reckon will still be best 22 next year?

Goater might move to wing, Sheezel forward, Ziebell's not getting any younger, Hall's done.

Young can't even get a game this year, Perez has managed 2 games all season.

I'd be very surprised if we weren't bringing in at least 2 back flankers over the next six months.

If I am being a really technical arseh*le, none of those names are actually listed at 190cm.

189cm, 192cm, 196cm, 189cm (and very average), 189cm, 184cm, 188cm and 187cm

My original point is that 189-191cm defenders can be regarded as a bit of an awkward tweener height as a general, albeit slightly dated, draft rule, with obvious exceptions to the old rule.

Sicily, Maynard, Wilke and Hayden Young all around the 190cm.

All different types, but it shows that being 190cm is not a disadvantage.
Didn't say it was necessarily a disadvantage per se, and you never rule out a player based on height until you see them play, but more so that it is an awkward height range that has produced quite a few failures at just North (poor EVW). Those types were generally ignored at earlier drafts due to tweener status, but are more favoured than they used to be thanks to Stewart and co and the evolution of the AFL athlete and game.

If Teal can kick and lockdown ok, then I am all in. Sick of medium forwards dominating us.
