Twin Towers is literally one of the most joked about events on the internet. You type "9/11" into Instragram right now and you will see thousands and thousands of jokes about it. The Family Guy clip has been posted, the Norm McDonald joke is posted. In his most recent comedy show Shane Gillis does a hilarious joke about an Australian in the twin towers on 9/11 "oh ****, get down - naaauuurrr" Bizarre that people find it offensive.

So it's okay for AFL media to refer to a duo of players as "The Twin Towers" but not okay for AFL players to dress as them?
Reading between the lines, a skit featuring a person dress as Jarryd Hayne and a sex doll, could never end well.
If he replicated anything that allegedly happened, then he crossed a line he shouldn't have. I assume this is why he is in the most trouble.

There’s dark humour and dark “humour”. The first is addressing dark topics in a humorous way typically with word play or making fun of the bad thing.
The second is just saying/doing horrible things (sexist, racist, etc.) and pretending it’s fine because it’s a “joke”
Given they are suggesting there was simulated sexual assault. This falls into the second category.
