Is this a pissing comp to see whos watched the most films? MUST watch movies is the title, not every movie throughout time

As someone rightly pointed out earlier, if it was an actual must watch list, the titles would number over a 1000, so this is pretty tame.

Also, knowing Asgardian's knowledge of film, and Roobs' taste, if they were to actually have a pissing contest, it'd probably last for days.

Sorry but this thread is just way too diluted to actually know what to watch.

Really needs to be narrowed down.

How about a top 5 or 10 from those that have posted monster lists?

The Seventh Seal
Manhattan
2001: A Space Odyssey
12 Angry Men
The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford
Duck Soup
City Of God
No Country for Old Men
Rope
Paris, Texas

Manhattan is my favourite Woody as well. I think it works as a decent entry point into Woody's work, so it's a good one for this thread.

City of God is one of those popular (for good reason) foreign films of the 2000's. If Silent Alarm hasnt seen it yet, he might enjoy it based on his 4 film choices.

The others should all be staples in any cinephile's diet, all perfect films, and good representations for their directors. Great list!

Yep mine as well :thumbsu:

Don't think any sane person would have Alien3 above Aliens on any list to be honest.

Agree with American History X. Great film.

Fair enough, Aliens is a more fully realised production, objectively it's a superior film. But Alien 3 always appealed more to me, it's more interesting. Better acting, art direction, score, plus more atmosphere. It's basically a drama with some horror thrown in. The finals cuts are both flawed, but the overall story and sci-fi mythology of Alien 3 reminds me of Alien.
This is a favourites thread afterall, I just find more to like in Alien3.

I dont particularly like American History X, I think it appealed more to my teenage self, but yes, it is a must watch.

Fair call. I think Alien3 had a lot of potential, quite a lot to match Aliens personally, but when you watch the cinematic version and the directors cut it's almost like watching 2 different movies. I think it really suffered during filming when they were changing bits of the script on the fly. I agree that the atmosphere was very, very good and i liked the acting overall. But the story didn't sit quite right with me.

Is this a pissing comp to see whos watched the most films? MUST watch movies is the title, not every movie throughout time

You have to be joking????????????

I have 3 1/2K movies in my collection, several movie collectors have well in excess of 10K movies.

I listed some great movies, ignoring many that had already been mentioned in this thread.

How do I include Nosferatu (1922), but leave out The Box of Pandora? (as an example)

I freely admit my favourite movie is The Cruel Sea, everything else is a close run 2nd.

Asgard always wins.

Not at all, there are many great movies I have not yet seen.

I do admit it is a bit over the top though.

MUST WATCH - Every movie ever made.

Sorry but you have to narrow it down a bit.

Okay, pick The Cruel Sea & any 9 more, but make allowance for the great movies I did not list because they had already been done so in this thread.

Also, knowing Asgardian's knowledge of film, and Roobs' taste, if they were to actually have a pissing contest, it'd probably last for days.

Sandeano & Nicky on Bigfooty are very knowledgable.

I would add
Wings Of Desire
The Usual Suspects

The Usual Suspects had already been listed.

Asgardian, no love for "Out of the Past"?

Yes, very much so, but I do not yet have it in my collection.

Wings Of Desire is not a movie I'm going out of the way to get.
