I thought 80% of this board had already written lycett off.
 from what evidence? he showed a bit even in his first game against the bulldogs ('11?)

It didn't seem like his body was right last year. But yeh, I do remember the occasional comment during the trading period about having to get another ruckman because he was 'not going to make it' or some nonsense

Mcgovern played really well. I had mixed emotions about this because in all honesty i thought he would never crack a game so i was kinda disappointed HE was the one who stood up and not Fraser. It's like hearing Razzle was BOG... just means nothing. Still, i don't see any reason why he couldn't crack a game this year. Fitness?

Carter was okay. Slightly built, as the commentary team noticed. Kinda throws water on all the fanboy nonsense that came out recently, "Carter is absolutely HUGE", "Jacob brennan has dyed his hair blonde..." etc etc

Don't think it's important if McGovern plays or not, if he plays well enough he will get an elevation during the season or at it's end.
I doubt McGovern will play in two weeks time, my best bet would be for Cox, Kennedy, Darling, McInnes and Lycett to play against Collingwood with Sinclair also passed over.

Carter isn't small not compared to Masten/ Gaff when they arrived at the club.

Biggest plus had to be Wilson, his legspeed was much improved but he still lacks an endurance edge (Walters goal highlights that) and he like McGovern needs a little more conditioning. Just looks better than Smith and Brennan, kicking, defensive edge and competitiveness.

Yeh Wilson looks like he's worked on his speed a lot. Thought he kicked beautifully in the derby in last year's NAB cup, but he shanked a few in a row last night. He and Tunbridge (and McGovern and a lot of others) showed really good physical intensity for kids.

I think that's because we had the Nic Nat experience. Looking at the average ruckman they only start coming "good" at 23-24. Scott has just past 20. He's ageing perfectly to replace Cox full time year after next, having played 15'ish games or so over this year and next.

Yes, I totally agreed with that he needed to be given more time and that I thought he would come good. I just remember being blown away by the number of people who had written him off because he wasnt a regular ruckman at 20 :S

It was also after his game against North (1st @ Subi) last year where people were already tarring and feathering him.

got to say, full credit to wilson first year on the list at 21? he messed about 3 times in a 5mins with his kicking but ran to take the kick in,an kick a nice kick.. showed the kid has alot of ticker impressed me :thumbsu:

The moment when Brennan bowled over Mckenzie, allowing the ball to fall to Walters for an easy goal was pretty disappointing given Walters was never going to out-mark E-Mac. It was obvious from the stands what was going to happen. An uninspiring performance from Smith as well.

Great to see McGovern in action, I could see him playing regular games in a team with a weaker forward line.

Was at the game on Saturday and thought all the new players were great. Obviously I'm way too optimistic to be posting on BigFooty.

Does anyone know what happened to Morton? I didn't notice him, so I assume he didn't play.

As much as I enjoy Brennan's attack on the ball and his seemingly no fear attitude it's also my biggest concern. I wonder how long it will be before he either a: gets weeks for reckless endangerment, b: injures himself or worse still IMO injures one of our own. Im happy for him to keep that style of play but for god's sake be a little more aware of who you are attacking. He poleaxed his own teammates a few times last season and we were lucky it wasn't too serious but first NAB cup game in and he's taking out Emac

The hit on A Selwood last year was epic.
