It's not an excuse. It's just the situation.

New fitness program. Far less cross training over preseason and far heavier loads in Feb / Mar.
We have no idea of the effects or benefits yet. That's why I'm saying, we have no idea where we are yet.

I have to ask, has the club released any info on why they've chosen this path? My guess would be to aid fatigue so that players don't do what Freeman did i.e. fatigue early but still have the energy to reach top pace and have a soft tissue tear. Whereas if you go into the match fatigued it's harder to reach that top end speed.

I prefer our approach personally as these matches are preparation for the season proper and you would never load up two days out from a match.

On Vardy jeez I'd personally be pushing him to take on the number 1 ruck role. Every time I see him play I just think Jeff White with more presence up forward. Simpson is an ok sort, but he doesn't have anywhere near the ceiling of Vardy for mine.

My guess is that you'll run with Hawkins and Kersten as one and two with one of Simpson and McIntosh being number 1 ruck and supported by Vardy. It's a good mix once you throw in the likes of Christensen and Motlop. If you can sort out your issues through the midfield I'd just about have your mob as flag faves, but on what I saw last night that will be a struggle because we dominated in patches through their.

Lol it was an actual question. Not a crack at Bucks.
It wasn't a why, it was a when.

Sorry, had a few last night. To be honest I have forgotten the question.

Shane Kersten... where does he sit in all this ? i was hoping to see him get a run last night. I had thought he was going to be a promising forward with much opportinuty to go alongside hawkins this year.
He has had niggles all summer. They are just being careful with him.

He hurt his knee in the VFL GF. Then he hurt his foot in January.
He's a chance to play the next game which is about 2 weeks away.

Ouch!
Is that what they were looking for - his teeth - during in the last break?
It's sickening when players lose teeth. I imagine implants are fitted if the teeth cannot be found, but the injury must be traumatic for players at the time. I felt very sorry for Burbury who supposedly lost a row of teeth.

I'm sure it still beats getting an injection in your mouth when you have to pull your teeth out. ;)
Man that shit was bad.

On the first question.
Not really. But we're just like you guys. We read every bit of info over the summer and try to join dots.
Sometimes they are imaginary :)

But we now have the olympic physio and he has changed things. Especially with Hawkins.
"Under new Cats physio Stanton he has eliminated much of the cross-training workouts which the club believes saw key senior players battling injury."

On the second comment.
I think every cats supporter just wants to see how Vardy can be as a forward. He's a big bugger, a bloody good kick, and he is agile.

But I suspect you may end up being right and he may need to ruck 25% of the time.
But comments from him and the club over summer seem to indicate they dont want him rucking much.

As for Simpson, he only played 60 minutes last night. He has had a very slow prep. If you noticed he hardly jumped last night.
But he has shown a lot of promise. Him and Hmac (if they both stay fit) will swap in and out of the team this year.

Apparently 8 trainers and Mooney and King went looking for the teeth.
But they were still in Burburys mouth.

The move away from crossfit is an interesting one for the Cats. The one constant of your teams since 2007 is their tremendous core strength. Hopefully it pays off because I wouldn't mind playing the Cats in a big final rather than the Hawks, if we can be there too :p

Rams a bit of a quiet acheiver, has been solid and creative. Has some way to go but good signs.
Yeah well from the looks of things so far, our 2012 draft is looking like it's going to turn out as a pretty successful one.
Other than Grundy ( :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: ), Ramsay is the one I was/am most excited about from that draft (for us anyway).

Add to that, BK was very good last night, he just looked a lot more settled and relaxed than he did last year and the benefits of that were obvious with his improvement in decision making and execution of his disposals.
It's amazing what just one pre-season can do.

Can't wait to see the side all come together as one and everyone just be on the same page, hopefully this year.

Yes young BenKen is looking good.

I agree about Ramsay. He looks courageous and skillful and will be an excellent player when his body is ready for AFL football. As for Grundy, his ruck work, his deft little palm outs and double handed taps to players at his feet are a delight to watch.

On Ramsay, the stats suggest he picked up 17 disposals and had 7 tackles in 30% time on ground. Now, I know being a practice match that the time on ground figures probably aren't 100% accurate, but if we give them some fairly significant leeway and say he had 50% time on ground then 17 touches and 7 tackles is still a mammoth effort! From a small defender in his second year you'd take 17 touches and 7 tackles if he'd been out there all day and be fairly happy with it. Are we going to see more of him this season? I know he looked a little rushed at times and his disposal efficiency reflects that but he just looks a very likely type and might be the sort to benefit from getting some games at AFL level.

I loved Ramsay's game. He made a few mistakes but overall it was the sort of thing that could be easily improved.

Our back line would probably look like this for round 1

Williams. Brown Toovey
Maxwell Keeffe(maybe Reid) ????? Last spot up for grabs

I see him and Sinclair battling it out for a small lock down defender position for that last spot although Buckley might prefer more of a kick in specialist like Armstrong or Young which I think is more likely. If something happens to Williams (touch wood) then Ramsay is a big chance to play round 1.

I see Langdon as the replacement for Toovey if he's not ready for round 1. He has the same height and looks the goods to play on small and medium defenders. I heard he has speed as well.
