I stopped getting excited about new players when Marty Clarke went home the first time. I now reserve my affection/adulation until a player has proved himself over time.
It's a shame that Freeman walked when the club expended so much money, effort and time on him, but between his hampered hammies and his delayed development he's no longer a prime prospect.

So why are you clowns offering him over 300k a year?

Can't have it both ways

Yeah, we can, because we have enough salary cap room to take a chance. We had to take players off the veteran's list just to hit the minimum salary cap this year. The money has to be spent on someone and rather than paying the likes of Luke Dunstan $500k in his third year, it makes more sense for us to take a medium-sized bet on someone like Freeman.

On the other hand, we can't afford to give away draft picks willy-nilly because we desperately need to get more young talent into the club. This is the lowest point of our rebuild and we need to take more chances on kids. Pick 25 in a weak draft still has a good chance of being better than about 10 of the guys on our list.

Except that North has offered their first round. You're way off the mark son.

Does anyone have a source for this?

I keep seeying it stated. But not the source.

All I have seen is a HS article that stated that North were interested, and then stating that North's first pick would be in a certain range, BUT not that North were actually offering it.

ie
North Melbourne has also flagged interest in Freeman and will have a first-round pick in between No. 14 and No. 18.

Unless we turn Freeman trade pick into Aish or our 2nd rounder plus Freeman into pick 5 then this flake has totally fkd the club.

He has done nothing but blow our high pick in a strong draft wasye our resources and went full blown prostitute at the end of his first contract.

Not only that he has chosen a team that if it chooses can tell us to go and get forked due to PSD.
If anyone brings up the Ball situation i will spew these are a world apart in difference Freeman has his whole career ahead of him Bally was battered and beaten after st shitda ran him into the ground. Saints also were saying he would spend a lot of time in reserves as Ross didn't rate him on the spread.

So you paid fair value for him?

Depends. You've got heaps of flags so it was worth relatively less for you guys than it would have been for us.
I'll let you in on a secret. The value of a premiership flag never diminishes, regardless of how many you have.

I don't see anything remotely Danger like from Freeman, output has been virtually zero, so nothing to see.
However, I am delighted Maxy made the comparison in the media to pump the trade value up!

Will be driving the Aint's crazy every time a media pundit mentions it now haha

Amen to that! You'd sell the farm for another premiership. Plenty of coaches have taken to a clubs list for the sole purpose of hastening a flag opportunity, Ross Lyon is one that springs to mind, pity it failed him though.

If it's a medium sized bet it's a medium priced trade ie 2nd round not 3rd which is low ball

It's not a matter of pick 25 being better than 10 guys on your list, rather is pick 25 a reflection of Freeman's talent/injury risk. This would be like us saying to GWS sorry but pick 7 will be a star, so we'll give you a packet of chips for Treloar. If you want to poach required players then there's a price to pay.

Go to the Luke Ball Thread.

You didn't want him... and didn't want what we offered you... and because of that we got him for less... you got nothing for him... and now Luke Ball has as many flags as your entire clubs history.

Get over it... you had your choice.

I got proof it was paige btw, only gonna prove in pms to people I trust tho lol
You trust me, I mean, we're both dating Carlisle's sister after all :D

Upstarts like Luke Ball?
I think upstarts probably describes more a Freeman than a Ball type of player. Eight years and almost 150 games at a club does not make an upstart. Without rewriting history, Ball was a highly credentialed player who wanted to leave a club and go to another, in most cases this happens. On this occasion a trade was not reached and he exercised the other avenue of player movement available.

Freeman will no doubt get his wish and become a Saint. The sticking point is of course the trade that is offered. He is really a hard one to determine but the contract offered must be a guide, much as the AFL use the size of a contract as a significant determinant of FA compensation. On this basis he cannot be traded for a 'song' and his potential must also be considered. It's almost counter intuitive, but he is worth more having played zero AFL games than having played a handful and showing little. That's where the potential needs to be accounted for in the trade deal.

I am Carlisle's sister remember and I dumped you both for Treloar as he has more money to play with ;)
