Well played young man! Persistence through all those injuries, he’s hoping he gets a good run at it as he really adds something to the forward structure
How much better did our structure look with him playing the checkers role?

Yeah he got outdone by May a few times, but that’s not a slight as May is a legit gun. He kept presenting and forcing a contest (which is all we ask in our gamestyle).

his presentation and consistent attack on the ball was chalk and cheese with AJ (who relies on finesse).

I was scared in the last 2 mins when he flew across a pack that he would clean someone up or get injured….knows no other way.

Hope he can stay fit and get a run at it.
Has the tools.

He’s everything AJ is not. I hope he can finally get a good run at it, because he, Checkers and McStay would be an effective tall forward unit imo.

It’ll give the selectors something to think about with Hill, Elliott, Schultz, Harrison McCreery, Richards and the resting ruckman also commanding a spot.

We could be on the cusp of our best forward line in decades.

Agree with all this but what really stuck out were his efforts without the ball. He chased and tackled in a way that should make AJ blush with shame. He, McStay and Checkers all are top notch defensively for their size.

And Kreuger in particular is legit quick for his size!

Sounds silly but would rest him vs north *short turn a round (sore body after first afl game in so long)

Play Johnson and the Krueger straight back in

Bloody rapt for him
You’re right it does sound silly. Well done.

Thanks for pointing that out.

usually I am all over defensive efforts….but I didn’t notice that too much today (probably looking at other stuff!).

If that’s the case then it’s even more elevated in my view.

I’ll make sure to look for that on the replay.
Cheers

It’s only an6 day break which isn’t too short and there’s a hue the week after. Should be out unless legitimately injured.

Rapt for Kreuger.

When I went to training during GF week last year, I was really struck by Kreuger’s enthusiasm. He’d been injured for most of the season, was no chance of playing, and had ostensibly a very uncertain contract situation but he was effervescent during the session, pumping his teammates up and doing Hulk Hogan poses to the crowd. Bloody legend.

Couldn’t be more deserving, and I hope he stays in seniors now and everyone else can try to force him out.

For a KPF he fits our structure so well as he’s looking to mark or bring the ball to ground for our smalls and once it hits the deck he’s no liability.

If he can stay fit and take some ruck minutes it puts some pressure on Cox and McStay and Kreuger allowing Checkers to play the 3rd tall is enticing.

His girlfriend is a college sprinter in the US and he’s done some training with her.

He played well today and better yet, stayed fit without injury.

Delighted for Krueger, the big, contested beast we need up forward at the moment. He also has really good off-the-line pace on the lead, and when giving chase.

Kicked three, took seven marks, laid a few tackles, hit packs and saw the ball to ground in our forward-line more often than not.

His best game for Collingwood, let's hope for his and our sakes that he can go on with it from here.

I know you have me on silent but I agree.

He’s really been a hassle-free recruit for everything other than injury. I don’t think he’d have been kept on after last year.

He looked a more natural forward than Frampton and outplayed AJ. He could find himself pressuring Cox or another key forward for a spot in September.

He may have also made a case for extension if he can play like that on a regular basis.

Im really happy for Freddie.
When he’s fit he’s such a handful to play against. He is much faster than other players who are 6’6’.
Kicked 3 and probably should have been 5 goals. He dropped a chest mark 10M out from goal and we kicked poorly on 2 occasions when he led out from goal and had separation from May.
Defensively he was great. Showed great courage on occasions.
Really complete game from Freddie and I’m absolutely rapt for him.
