Remaining picks before our second round:
28 Richmond
29 Western Bulldogs
30 WCE
31 Western Bulldogs
32 St Kilda
33 Port Adelaide
34 Fremantle

Players available (Cal Twomey rankings)
18 Jack Whitlock
21 Jobe Shanahan
28 Alex Dodson
29 Christian Moraes
30 Tom Gross
31-40 Jasper Alger
31-40 Angus Clarke
31-40 Adrian Cole
31-40 Josh Dolan
31-40 Charlie Nicholls
31-40 Harry O'Farrell
31-40 Hamish Davis
31-40 Logan Smith (GWS Academy)
31-40 Ben Camporeale (Carlton F/S)
31-40 Thomas Simms

You would think that clubs will go hard trading with Richmond/ Bulldogs for one of Shanahan or Whitlock. There are a few clubs wanting a ruckman and Alex Dobson has been highly rated. We reportedly have some interest in Clarke. Do we try and trade up to the Bulldogs second pick tomorrow night using our own F3.

Comments from Twomey (re: draft whispers for Freo):
“Fremantle has looked at trading up by packaging its first two picks to shift up the board whilst rivals have thrown future first-round picks at them to see if they will trade out of No.14. The most likely scenario, however, is to stick at No.14, which would be the first of three picks for the Dockers, who have nominated South Fremantle's Jaren Carr, the son of former Docker Matthew, as a father-son. They haven't committed to taking him but he is a chance late or as a rookie. The Dockers have looked closely at Sam Toner, the Dandenong Stingrays forward, whilst having also tracked Werribee VFL half-back Riley Bice. Tall forward Charlie Nicholls, local Cody Angove, midfielder Damon Hollow, tall back Tom Bell and mature-age small forward Baynen Lowe are others who could be in the mix as later options.”

Sam Toner is an interesting one. Overage player who started the year in a lower comp and kicked 50 goals. Then came into U18 as overage player and did very well. Medium forward. Reads like a classic Walls late pick.

Rookieme:

"Another element Reid can look to enhance is his defensive output. He thrives with ball in hand, and more defensive minded midfielders will allow his strengths to shine, but he can certainly chase, transition and tackle with more intent. That, and his toned down tempo are part of the reason why perhaps he'll have to establish himself outside of the on-ball group at the elite level."
That shit won't fly with Caleb and Andy. Defensive stuff will improve no doubt about it.

The North draft thread from page 120 on is delightful reading

Pretty interesting night all things considered:
A) What the actual **** are GWS doing. Just completely ****ing bizarre but hidden amongst other weird things
B) Sydney had better hope Armstrong is no good because they also had a head scratcher all things considered following that Grand Final
C) **** this stupid points system letting Brisbane load up for another generation for basically free
D) I am incredibly jealous of Richmond (which must be extra melt worthy for WC fans watching what they've done the last month). Lucky in this draft and all but they completely broke North and GC for their own benefit, made WC pay absolute full price for an uncontracted player and made us pay fair. Once in a lifetime draft and trade period to go with a once in a lifetime dynasty.
E) While I touch on North, really, you cant overstate how dogshit they are. They literally ignore KPPs at the top end of a draft while fully rebuilding, then pay well and truly overs for a midget in trade period which forces them to give up what will almost certainly be a top 5 pick for two picks in the 20s. Dogshit club, but thanks for buying Perth home games.
F) Stinker first up effort for Rosa as well trading out of a Kako bid that likely wouldnt have come (a nd they could have just gotten Norths pick anyway like someone said). #BringBackDodo
GWS certainly went early on Hannaford. Angove is an absolute bolter. I think Harry Oliver was around the mark in between. Perhaps they felt he wouldn’t get to their next pick.

I couldn’t understand the Essendon trade at the time. Why wouldn’t they just wait until draft night and have some deals lined up. St Kilda and Melbourne have some magic voodoo thing going on. They needed to hold tough and call their bluff and then if a bid did end up coming before their pick 9, by Melbourne or Saints then trade the pick for a future first and some change. North would have jumped at it in a heartbeat.

I’ll wait on Sydney. They got a couple of good handy players at their two picks. Maybe they can secure a key forward like Kayle Gerreyn. They still have picks 41 and 52 to come.

GWS is more about picking TWO MORE flankers / small forwards. They can barely fit their current talented bunch in there and they went for two more of them? Bizarre obsession with small forwards. We need to be all over Jones next contract

Vic Country v Vic Metro
A significant percentage of the Metro v Country is artificial in that a 'Country' includes a fair slice of suburban Melbourne. Young for instance went to school in Mornington. There is still 35 km houses to Portsea from there. He's from the city.

I think that North trade adds extra salt into the wound for WC as well. Probably could have gotten a North F1 for 14 instead of 26 year old Liam Baker...

Yes please - I love jones. Perfect fit for us.

Reid is ****ing bananas by hand and has a really cute chip kick, Grub Mitchell-like in their inventiveness and well-weightedness.

I wasn’t paying any attention whatsoever to this draft so had no idea what old two surnames was all about, but he’s the Vic Metro MVP who Twomey rated as 5 or 6.

And his highlights reel has him nutmegging blokes and executing 15-metre hand passes to complete advantage - for shits and giggles.

We have made out like absolute bandits.

This kid can football.

Rookie Me also had him at 5. You cant pass up that level of talent at 17

14, F2 > Tom Barrass (I know F2 wasn’t offered but I’m sure that could have been arranged)
14 > North F1
F2 (Hawks), 26 > GWS pick 20 and F3 (GWS) - Angove chosen at pick 24 by GWS and I’m dead certain would have been available at 30)
Pick 20 > Baker
End result
Keep 3, keep the picks they had in 60’s
Add North F1
Add GWS F3
