Thunder spoilt with so many home games so far.
Credit to Redlands who have travelled interstate 3 times out of 5 games so far. .Time will tell if Nt are the real deal on the road.

Reckon the Sharks vs Lions game will be interesting.... Sharks have had 3 very energy sapping games in the last 3 weeks( Redland, Aspley, NT in Darwin).Whilst the Lions have had a bye and field their best side so far this season.Have picked the Sharks, but gee, it wouldn't surprise me if the Lions got up.

Sharks also travelled 3 times. Nt are still very good but will come back to the field when they travel a few times

I reckon the current top 6 will not change.

I went across to No 1 Oval today to watch Sydney Uni v Queanbeyan. Uni was probably a bit sharper with skills, and a bit fitter, but I give it to Qbn for a determined and relentless effort.
Quite entertaining match that was close all day though I can't see either team challenging for the NEAFL premiership this year.

Two players caught my eye who didn't feature in the BETTER PLAYERS - Winmar and Bernasconi.
Winmar (17) is fast, great mark and deadly accurate kick; I see that he's new to the Uni team and he's going to be an asset this year.
Bernasconi (30) for Qbn seemed to be the main one presenting in the forward 50 and I thought he tried hard all day, with not much support from others up forward. (I suppose that's the hole that 'Kav' used to run into). Not that big to be doing that, but he deserves credit for having a red hot go.
Quade was disappointing. The Qbn guys on this forum will say that he's a 200 game player and that he kicked 2 goals today but he looked a bit of a cardboard cutout to me - not much of a mark, didn't lead much, not very imposing for a guy his size. I'm sure that he's played far better games than this one.

Interesting to someone who wasn't supporting either team to watch the two benches - the Uni bench was full of encouragement and I've noticed previously what a great culture they are developing at Uni. On the other hand, the Qbn assistant coach on the bench was quite vocal and open in critisizing his own players and the umpires. I've never thought that was very clever and helpful.
The Uni rotations seemed to be highly organised and purposeful - they obviously give a lot of thought to it.

Looks to me that Uni is building something special there...plenty of supporters (by NEAFL standards anyway !). A proper home ground must surely by high on their bucket list.

Saw a great standard game today between Sharks vs Lions. Was an absolute arm wrestle with one point separating the sides at three quarter time. I seriously thought the Lions would crack the game open in the final stanza due to fresher legs etc, but no, I was wrong... the Sharks absolutely blew the Lions off the park in all facets in that final quarter..... collinson and hill were good for the Sharks, but for me, Shreeve was real good...again... missed last week due to injury, he is on fire this season... Delisted by the Suns academy 2 seasons ago, well.., the way he is going, may be another Zorko case study.Still only 21,,, next time u watch the Sharks play, pay particular attention to this guy.

Should have come over and introduced yourself Justa. I was the rather heavy set Queanbeyan runner who wouldn't have looked out of place running around in the Masters Rules practice match that was the curtain raiser.

Quade has definitely had better games, but we crucified him with our delivery, making him try to mark when double and often triple teamed. Bernasconi did compete well, especially considering he's on the small side for a key forward and also rolled an ankle early.

Uni were just too slick with their hands in tight to release very skilled and dangerous runners like O'Dwyer, Brabazon, Ayton, Rawlinson, Fasolo etc. Their talls took some pretty crucial and strong marks at key times when we'd worked hard at the other end without getting full reward for effort. We started very poorly and almost clawed back from five and a half goals down at one stage before half time. We had a chance to go ahead with not much left on the clock but missed. Then Winmar's shot from out wide to seal it for them with barely enough time for another centre bounce was very composed and as you say, he's deadly. It never looked like missing.

Agree about the oval. It's not up to standard for NEAFL level. Have never seen a ground where the 50 arc intersects with the centre square just inside the corners of the square and if the lines were painted all the way through the top of the 50 would have only been a couple of metres from the centre circle! Can't complain about having an impact on the game though as it's obviously the same for both teams.

Cannot believe the Aspley vs Thunder result today.... don't think Aspley would either.

Pinch yourself stuyd1 and believe this did happen and to no surprise - travel is a very big leveller.

Never in doubt from the first bounce - NT superstars up north looked slow and out of touch
The kid who played on Cam Ilett our possible NEAFL Captain shut him out of the game. Also no delivery to Boof no possible win and these two superstars struggled all day.
The NT had no answers to a slick outfit than sniffed a kill and went for the jugular - heaven help the next side to travel to Darwin as the NT Boys will want to make up for a woeful travelling loss toda

Billy bunter,
luv the result,, Aspley winning, but by 20 goals plus, well,,, one wouldn't expect that.

Gee, and here was I. I spotted you - slim as the Uni second ruck after he had to change to an undersized jumper, and white head gear too - but I was thinking they'd recruited Steve Monoghetti to do the running.
Silly me.

The Swans/Giants game was scheduled for a 4.10 start, so unfortunately some of our tipsters didn't make the cut for that game.
This is the revised tipping ladder.
