Giants

I suppose the best people to ask would be Jesse Wallin at Bendigo and to a lesser extent Scott Clarke at Port Melbourne...Had a good chat to Jesse about Bendigo's pre season and would think our teams would struggle to keep up..

NEAFL in a upset..mainly due to Wafl's shock horror at where they have been sent for a state game

Giants by less than the 100.5 the line given by sportsbet.

WAFL by 8-10 goals.

NEAFL team pretty decent on paper but when guys fly in from all over 2 states and 2 territories and train once together (guys wouldn't even know all their teammates names) against a team from one city who know each other and trained together a few times. Hope im wrong and Neafl cause the boilover

Not defending Blacktown decision at all, and I'm definitely in the camp who think the rep game should have been in QLD with the bulk of the team coming from the north, but how many on this forum have actually been to Blacktown International Sports Centre? Surprised at the criticism. It's a complex built specifically for the 2000 Olympics. It's top notch. The ground is outstanding. The large grandstand is better than any NEAFL club grounds, and the facilities for players and coaches are excellent. I very much doubt the WAFL team will be in shock at the ground. It will be on par with what they play on. The only shock will be that there's more coaches and support staff than spectators.

NEAFL, would battle to beat the VAFA.... and the VAFA play the QAFL shortly.... another belting for QLD. For Christ sake, if they want to play these rep games, make it a fixture where the comps are of similar standards.... eg, NEAFL vs VAFA.

agreed couldnt of said better. and this was a weak wafl team.

A very disappointing result by NEAFL, but very expected given the very poor preparation for the game. One week ago blokes had no idea if they were in or not, and logistics meant that training not possible. Guys literally met each other for the first time the day before the game. One light training run together. WAFL players all from Perth and surrounds, trained together for a month, travelled on the plane together.

Not saying its all in the preparation, but ask any footballer playing at a high level a good preparation is absolutely vital for performance., WAFL are a better team as well but 3 years ago the QLD team went over to WA and got much much closer (3 points). The NEAFL is stronger now.

Sadly, I tend to agree with VAFA v AFLQ. The VAFA have played 2 games together already this season and had a squad together since February. The QAFL have assembled a squad, had several players withdraw and have trained twice. 100 points is the likely result. However I have seen live the VAFA rep team play twice and the NEAFL rep team would be far too strong IMO

Well the Suns down by about 100+ by 3qtr time. You would have thought that being a AFL ressie team that there would be better performances than this. Applaud them for playing young up and comers as top ups but it seems some of the Listed players don't seem to perform to the standard that would be expected by a listed AFL player !!

Possibly important to bear a result like 31.18.210 to 2.7.19 between AFL reserves sides when assessing the performances of other clubs... That's just an astonishing result.

I suppose in defence of the Suns I see the just about all if not all of the Giants players are listed players compared to the Suns 10 (I think). Suns also lost one of their ruckman after 1st qtr so player down for 3 qtrs of game. Still hard to believe that this would equate to a 200 point drubbing

So, is the make-up of the final 6 set already? Can anyone outside it after round 9 still make it? Has Sydney Uni set themselves up as the team that all others outside the current top six will be closely watching to see if they can get past them.

Looks to me like Sydney Uni has had a soft draw so far, but that it is going to get harder for them. I watched them v Qbn at No 1, and v Eagles at Purser - the spirit is great but their bottom six or so aren't too strong.
Ainslie and Apsley have draws to come that are similar to what they've had so far, and I'd be tipping one or other of them to take that sixth spot,

I can't see any from the low group on the ladder taking massive leaps forward into the finals.

Come finals, will the AFL teams be able to play their best and brightest ? Or will they be handicapped as has happened in other years ?

29 goals 11 points...that's what the Giants won by......your joking,,,, this restructured comp is just a farce.
Not to mention, I hear that next season, the AFL ressie sides will be able to play their full list. ( max 15 listed players restriction is to be abolished thus vastly reducing the useage of top up players) . So not only have the local NEAFL clubs had to step up a rung this year, but will have to step up another rung next year.I mean the local clubs can only progress so much on the budgets they can afford to be competitive. How are the lower ranked clubs going to be competitive.....?
And one may say the standard of the comp has improved,,, I think the competitive standard of the comp was better in 2012 and 2013 !!
Not to mention the result of the rep game this weekend where the WAFL belted us with a side missing many gun players in that comp.
This bullshit about the current structure providing a better pathway for players to get drafted because they are playing against AFL reserve sides is a joke...Simply, the ability and expertise of AFL club talent scouts and recruitment officers recognise potential of a young player very quickly and earmark them for drafting regardless of what level of footy they have played at.Down south, most draftees are recruited from the TAC cup comp,,, they don't have to be playing at VFL level etc etc.
