People are complaining that the players are taking the piss, have no pride, choose when to put in or not and then when there is a clear cut case of players taking the piss and ignoring a club directive, people are defending them. Whilst people can say this is their personal life etc, for professional athletes there is clear cross over between personal life and professional responsibilities.

Of course players should be able to go out and have fun but we are on our knees with Covid and injuries and these guys were told not to go clubbing at this time and ignored it. They are paid a fortune to be professional athletes and with that come certain sacrifices including following some club directives.

If the club hadnt imposed the no clubbing directive we would be accused of not taking Covid seriously.

Missing the point (at least with my argument).

The fact that you even need to make it a directive to professional sportsmen is pretty embarrassing. If you have to make it a directive, then you have zero faith in your players doing what is best for the club.

In reality, the players should be able to do whatever they want on the weekend (provided it isn't illegal). If their actions go against the best interests for the club, they don't get games, and in turn, they probably get delisted. THAT is the punishment and that is how you build a culture of reward for effort.

Instead you've got players like Nelson, who have been on the list for 8 YEARS with zero "buy-in". Says a lot about the culture around the place.

Do you actually expect the club to delist either of these players when it comes to the pointy end of the year? I don't. And then it becomes a case of beating your chest in the media, while not following through behind closed doors. Personally, I'd much prefer it things operated the other way around.

Nelson yes, but that may well have happened anyway.

Rotham no, he’s contracted for two more years and going out to a nightclub is less of an issue if he’s only had Covid a month ago and no risk of getting it again.

I agree it says a lot about the culture, as does the club’s reaction (also screams of feeling the pressure). I also agree you should be able to rely on players to do the right thing but, as this has shown, we obviously can’t. The purpose of a directive though is to be clear with expectations. I don’t think in the current situation that is unreasonable.

Regardless of the merits of it, it says a lot that players ignored a club directive.

Generally, in the scheme of club scandals it is a storm in a tea cup but to me the whole episode, including the clubs reaction, highlights the pressure on them and the mess the club is in across every line.

Getting way blown out of proportion. They disobeyed a club order but doesn't sound like they got into any trouble. Fair punishment is getting dropped for a game or so.

Talk of getting delisted for it is ridiculous. Sure both of them need to show more if they want to stay on the list but let's be honest, if it was Oscar Allen spotted at the club we wouldn't be talking about getting rid of him. If these guys get delisted it's because they're shit.

Nelson got Covid.

And could have passed Covid onto the coach and/or teammates.

Standards should be applied to player 1 - 45 or however many we have on out list… however this system has also applied to on field where often player 35 or 40 is going better than player 3 yet 3 can stay in the side on his name rather than deeds…

The club has made this rod for their own back by having no standards on performance, fitness or behaviour.. what rioli did and then his next incident wasn’t enough to get sacked then what is???

Hopefully its found only these two plodders were there but if not then the punishments should apply to all of them equally.

Yes... I assume in the current environment it's the primary reason the club doesn't want players at nightclubs. They clearly broke that rule. They will get punished for it. In the grand scheme of things though people have committed much worse offences than this. The point I was making is that if their lists spots are in danger it's not because of this.

As a rule of thump plebs get dropped super starts a quiet word. Most clubs harbour players with links to oprganised crime or worse.

Now we know why Waterman actually tried tonight. And why they couldn’t drop Rotham, cause then they would really struggle to field a team with both Waterman and Rotham out.

3 more players were at the nightclub been reported
Waterman Chesser and Bazzo

Nisbett confirms careers are in doubt.
So pretty much it confirms these players Nelson Rotham Waterman all will get delisted at end of season.

Chesser and Bazzo being young new recruits will be survive but told to pull there heads in.

Big list clean out incoming. End of the season can't come soon enough.

Pretty sure Rotham and waterman have had covid already what does it matter if they went night clubbing ?

Careers in doubt is a bit crazy (if it is because of a night out).

I mean half the Richmond team was there. Optics are bad, but maybe some of the younger guys were just picking their brains about how to maintain the hunger and desire as a squad.

In all seriousness though, not sure if it was a team rule but they weren't breaking any state or AFL rules. Poor choice by young players, but if this is the one incident we decide to come down hard on then the club has a long way to go.

Drink driving, OK as we are short on players

Drugs and more drugs, it's an education issue

Overweight and unfit professional athletes, we back them in to know what they are doing

5 young guys go to a nightclub at their first opportunity after a couple of years of not being able to - mass list changes

On SM-G986B using BigFooty.com mobile app

Not the point…. They were told not to go, no wonder we seem to have no team rules on field when they wont follow rules off field.
Why is it not the point ? They are not going to get it or pass it on .

Its funny that freo haven't copped covid as bad as us with a much younger team who from what I have heard are not under the same directions.

Its our poor conditioning and injury list which is the problem.

Nissy feeling the pressure and looking to take the focus off themselves and their poor off field performance.

Recon its time for the old boys club to be dissolved
