There's a lot disloyalty around here (this board) this year.

I am not sure general statements help. My criticisms of Pearce have been the same for the last few years and I sincerely hope his form improves over the season. I don't see him improving as a player at his age so most of my criticisms I expect to remain the same. However, if he does in a consistent manner I will say it here.

You may not have meant me, but that is what is difficult with general statements. If you didn't mean me - ignore this 😀 If you did - then I would like to know how I have been disloyal.

I attended, watched and thought Alex was good tonight but I expect that your focus will be on the slightest error he makes. Thats the way you roll.
Nothing like disloyal supporters who think they are football experts.
I want to tread carefully here Kenyan and be as polite as possible but I think there are times when a place like bigfooty is tough to be around for someone like yourself. The Freo board is for discussing all things Freo, that comes with criticism where people see it. Now, some of the criticism and "logic" we see on here drives me spare sometimes and I hate having to read it but I recognise people are entitled to post opinions on an opinion forum.

I imagine being very close with a Freo player would make reading some of the stuff sickening but people on here are passionate and invest a lot both financially and emotionally into the club. They are naturally going to have an opinion on all things Freo and just because they have a negative opinion of Alex doesnt make them disloyal. The benefit of somewhere like bigfooty or reddit is that players have to actively seek out these places to see commentary and with it also being moderated, it is far better than other social media for discussing opinions.

Personally, I find it difficult enough to be on here during these times but I have to be here. I would encourage you to consider if reading peoples opinions when the club isnt going too well is good for you.

I'm not sure if this has been covered yet, but i will touch on it anyway.

The Pearce appointment too me shows a complete lack of leadership at the club from the very top that has now fed down.

It is pretty evident to everyone that the two "leaders" at this football club at AB and Serong. The club in my view didn't have the balls to make one the captain over the other so they effectively kicked the can down the road by making Pearce captain.
Who knows if internally they're quite aware of Serong's captaincy credentials but want a couple more years for him to mature physically, otherwise Brayshaw scores it, if it wasn't Pearce and would likely retain it despite Serong coming on. Never know.
Giving it to Pearce gives time for Serong to grow into a genuine option later on. Wouldn't it look worse if Serong took it off Brayshaw in two years time?

I think you can criticize a player without wanting him/freo to fail. There are some posters on here who delight in the 'told you so' aspect of watching when Freo lose. We all know who they are, because they are very vocal. They're the same people who run and hide when Freo go well. Some of them have posted the same thing for years without any reasonable discussion except attempted confirmation bias.

There's a bit of a pattern here. It goes something like:

1. Fans get frustrated that Freo have underperformed, which is understandable.
2. We look for someone to blame. The most visible are the coach, captain and players in our 'bottom 6'.
3. Poster A will make a call to 'drop player X' or 'sack the coach.
4. Some will agree, some will disagree. Most will discuss logically.
5. Poster A will look for confirmation that he/she was right, at times going to lengths to find fault when it's not there. This then becomes an obsession.
6. This pisses people off. And, rightly so.

There are definitely these people but they are in the minorities and you’ll see them only posting negatives and never admitting they were wrong. Poshman isn’t one of them.

Have to admit: It wasn't just against the Hawks where I noticed that old spark in Pearce. The second half of the Brisbane game I noticed he really went above and beyond in intensity and generally more aggressive attempted rebounding. Difference was ball movement from the midfield and Cox having his worst game at the club stretched him quite thin.

Tough start to the year, I know I've been a bit critical of him last year and the start of this one but when everyone's confidence is down it's a great thing to fully belt an underperforming opposition to get that touch back and Pearce definitely found some of that. Being the face of a struggling team is hard, being the leader of that team when you're a KPD being bombarded with repeat centre clearances is brutal. He seems to be growing into it though, hopefully he gets a prolonged run at it

I know he is getting on but has anyone thrown up Walters as the captain, I reckon he would thrive. He as all the attributes.

Self-indulgent, playing for free-kicks and abusive to his teammates.

Sonny is a great leader on the track, onfield, he's not who you'd want calming the storm, very much about himself on gameday.

Was about to fire up 🤬 as this conversation started with someone quoting me..

Glad I read on before replying... 🤪

I hold my view on Pearce, but would very much like to be wrong. And have no issue in saying his performance on the weekend was a lot better. The next three weeks will be a test. I made the same observations of his game prior to this season. I don't go nearly as hard as many did to Fyfe, who is levels above as a player. Now Pearce is the captain it will come with the territory that he will be under more scrutiny from most when we are losing. I can at least say that last season and prior I was voicing the same concerns about having his penchant to turn the ball over won't be good in finals.

Really happy that he seems to be finding form again.

It is tough when the ball is coming in so often but much better marking of the opponent is what has been heartening.

The frustration was knowing what he (and the rest of the defence) was capable of, so the last two weeks have been positive.

The fact that he backed himself to just do his job and allow others to do the ball movement/decision making. Simple basic stuff excels

Two of those 3 weeks have passed with wins against Geelong and Melbourne and no mention of the captains form?
