I thought he was good against Geelong, not so much against Richmond. Cats game Hawkins got lucky for 1 and got another off turnover and a sensationsal pass from Cameron. Otherwise Pearce held him well and also took some good marks midfield when Hawk went up. The fact Hawkins went ball hunting was a good indication he was struggling a bit with Alex.

3.2 when the midfield is being absolutely smashed.

I am happy to give him praise when it is due but that is a poor game.

He backed that up with a very poor game against Richmond.

For the majority of the season he has averaged a Poor - Good performance. It is a long form slump that I hope is due to injury and not age or something he can work his way through. 2 years ago - Jack isn't beating Pearce in those contests. Pearce would have monstered him. And it cost us big time.

We need the Pearce who monsters dudes to re-emerge.

he's played notably worse since around Covid and since getting the captaincy. guy looked destined to be one of our greatest full backs and he always had an incongruous toughness to his game but jesus christ he looks second-rate now.

too busy shaggin president's daughters or whatever he does now.

would genuinely be delist material if he wasn't given a typical Fremantle captaincy oddjob: Sam Collins is a tougher, stronger, more reliable and more attacking threat as a full back and he's played in a horrible side for most of his career...

he's been shithouse. people adulated his performance on a Buddy Franklin who is absolutely terrible.

I don't mind Alex Pearce really. but he's gone backwards; Fremantle have always struggled with a genuine leader of men as captain but this fella is almost the worst of the lot – too busy with his nose piercing thinking they're called 'vinyls.'

you compare him to an equally 'non-footy' footballer like Darcy Moore and jesus bloody christ...

Pav was a great captain. And Fyfe was very good in a hard time at the club.

I am not sure the 'have always struggled with a genuine leader of men as captain' comment is anything close to reasonable.

Pearce has definitely been out of form. I would hope who his girlfriend is has nothing to do with that either.

Freo have struggled with a genuine leader of men as captain? Bell? Pavlich?!

What a load of tripe-coloured bollocks.

I like Bell. never got the weird sect on here who got upset because he called some loser out at a pool table out at the Leopold. gave his all, cares about the FFC, and didn't want Hogan or McCarthy (or even Ross)...

Pav is probably coloured better by our GWN7 goggles of his era. he plead the loyalty thing but he was smart enough to know that staying at Freo would be more financially rewarding than any contract in Adelaide or at Collingwood, Carlton, or the Brisbane Lions. don't forget that 20 years ago, you never had 500k contracts.

we were just lucky enough to have Cookie, Kicketty, McManus, Roger Hayden, the Carrs all in the same era(ish) who carried the club. those guys should be the template.

Bullshit. Pavlich was the ultimate leader of men. His troops would run through brick walls for him. You'd never find a more passionate Fremantle person.

This is an all time bad take.

passionate Fremantle person who copped an admit to going to slimebag Eddie Maguire's gaff to, essentially, negotiate a contract? who was very close to Carlton?

'nah babe I didn't go his house to see if he was worth rooting, I just went there because his carbonara sounded really good.'

You'd be an idiot not to explore all options all the time.

Any player worth anything has had a private meeting with Collingwood

You'd have to be a fool to not do that

Brown and reiwoldt did the exact same thing, are you saying they aren't loyal to lions and the saints?

~70 point loss against the Giants...

This group seems to get far too happy with themselves and goes into games against 'lesser' teams with a casual, lack of intensity. It is a consistent thing.

Pearce and JL are on the hook as the leaders.

He seems to be injured. If not then it is a terrible demise from a form perspective. Even then, given he is playing, he has still been very poor this season.

We struggle against teams in the first quarter and we are about to enter into the difficult part of our draw having lost 3 of the last 4. Carlton like to do well against us, here is hoping the skipper can have a game that turns the clock back to a couple of years ago.

What is acceptable from a W/L perspective from here? Win this week and we have a chance to go 4/4. Lose this week and we are looking down 3/5. A 10 win season would need a strong response next year. We need to win big against a couple and not get smashed against Coll, Port, Bris and Geelong away.

If we can do that our percentage even on a ten win year will keep us around the 10th placed finish, and inside the bracket I tipped at the start of the year.

A return to the finals next season is a must, if not Pearce should be stepped aside and JL has to be looked at. We cannot afford to key years of our young stars like we did with Sandi, Pav and McPharlin.

It’s becoming more and more obvious that Pearce is just an interim captain.
It needs to go to Serong or Brayshaw now next season. It’s so important to get this right. Serong is my choice - a hard edged, driven warrior on the field.
You want your captain to have fire in his belly.
Or lead by example, especially if you want to drive the team to excel.
At worst they have to be top 10 at the club, Pearce would be lucky to scrape in.
