It’s becoming more and more obvious that Pearce is just an interim captain.
It needs to go to Serong or Brayshaw now next season. It’s so important to get this right. Serong is my choice - a hard edged, driven warrior on the field.
not really sure how much of a difference having Serong or AB as captain will make though really, youd have to presume theyre already leading the team without the tag...

If they are already leading the team why did we get smashed out of the middle in the last quarter vs Dogs ?? They kicked 5 of the last 6 goals with AB and Caleb in the middle.

Reckon 99% of people wouldn't blame the captain if it was Brayshaw. Seems a very soft and easy target
Possibly, at least with brayshaw there would be hope he could develop with the team. He is one of our top five players - Pearce on form is a 17-22 range player.

Pearce skated by with little to no criticism last year and for most of this year. The honeymoon is over and he is coming under pressure. Some of it is excessive, but most is spot on.

He still has all the issues he has always had when it comes to mistakes under pressure and shaky starts to games. He is not going to develop beyond that or the player he is now. Hopefully he gets back to the form he had a couple of years ago which meant he was a great stopper. Now he is a liability on disposal and isn't stopping anyone.

There's clearly and aspect of Pearce that makes him a good leader and why the players all voted for him. And that showed last year, when he basically captained us the entire year.

But I don't believe he is strong enough mentally to be able to captain a team through a season like this. You need someone hard edged who isn't so sensitive to the highs and lows, especially for such a young team. I know plenty of people don't think Fyfe was a good captain, but he's definitely not someone who would be affected by the week to week.

One and done for Alex as skipper
He just Cannot , continue as our captain next year
Serong to take over
Yeah, he's done as captain. If we can piss Mundy off after one year as captain, who is a much much greater player then Pearce will ever be, then we can definitely do the same to Pearce.

Wasn't there more than one player who was voted unanimously into the leadership group?

As for captaining last season, no that was Fyfe. As seen here when things didn't go well he copped it. He did some small game day stuff but Fyfe was a good deflector shield from criticism.

He is a nervy starter and we as a team are now a nervy starter. He has dropped massively in form and if that is due to foot issues I am not sure how that is meant to come good given his history and age. On form I would take the KPD from almost every other club over Pearce this season. There are less and less key backs who can't dispose of the ball well. He is not stopping people, some of that due to mids, but a lot due to form or confidence. And he is a ball stopper on the way out.

If his injury is one that will get better with rest or surgery, then we should get him the rest or surgery. If it won't get better then we need to get creative with how and if we can play him.

On form, which of our captains played worse than Pearce? Peter Mann who was struggling with injury when captain?

Chris Bond averaged 12 disposals per game in 1999

We need Alex's athleticism back.

He hasn't had it all season and half of last. He isn't sure with the ball, a very poor kick and rarely breaks the lines anymore to give drive.

A defensive line of Ryan, Hamling and Chappy would be a nice change. Get Pearce his surgery and have him ready for next season. At which time I hope they have removed him as captain.

They won't drop him or rest him. On form he needs to be dropped and for his sake he needs to go get that surgery.

He is a non presence. And today as has been the case since the bye, his body language was terrible. Given how much the ball was in his area at a minimum he should have crushed some opponents and contests. He wasn't without opportunity.

I hope he gets over this latest issue as when in form a couple of seasons ago he was a ripper as a stopper. Now he doesn't have that.

Not sure what KPD rate below him but he would be in the bottom 5 in the league atm. I don't have an exhaustive list, but cannot think of a no1 KPD I would take him over league wide.

Having him as captain puts us in a selection pickle this season and long term.
