Wait so is there a legit GC rebrand coming or is it just speculation
Basically, when X-Blades took over from BLK they said that they were going to 'refresh the range' along with a whole bunch of other marketing crap that they put into these sorts of press releases. People on this board for some reason took that to mean that Jimmy Bartel (an old footballer) and X-Blades (an apparel manufacturer) were going to be rebranding the Gold Coast Suns, a job that you would normally hire a talented graphic design studio to do, not a company that makes footy boots.

Got the official AFL fixture book today, I didn’t notice before but Sir Doug Nichols round is now a 2 week event round 10 and 11.

Melbourne get 2 home games (Darwin and MCG. Port get 2 away games (Tassie and China)

Carlton also get two away games (MCG and Marvel though)

St Kilda get 2 home (One in China)

What are people’s thoughts on this change?
Wait, so there is a game in China during Indigenous Round?? :drunk:

Personal opinion: GC should drop blue from their colour scheme. It doesn't fit. Red and yellow is what I associate with the Suns. A simple yellow inverse would be fine as a clash.
But the blue, yellow and white looks better altogether. Red isn't a colour the Gold Coast is associated with..

Doesn't the red and yellow signify the surf lifeaver colours?

As a WCE fan, I totally agree that blue and yellow work together :moustache::D
Aaahh, I forgot they were clinging onto that. Yeah, I think so. It's not something typically "Gold Coast" though. Every major beach has lifesavers. Big whoop.

There is alot I dont understand about it, if there goal is to have everyone use their indigenous jumper only in these two weeks, well Port do always use it once at home so they will use outside of these 2 rounds.

Why name both rounds Sir Doug Nicholls round, I would leave week one as Sir Doug Nicholls then have week two as Winmar/Goodes round.

Like you have said, are they not going to use special china jumpers for this game?

I like the idea of two weeks so everyone gets to use their jumpers at home and not have them being used here and their outside of Indigenous round, but this feels rushed in its setting up.

Suns are urgently in need of a rebrand, but for what they currently have, that clash jumper is actually really solid.

So, not legit, then

Still their best jumper.
I actually dug that red away guernsey they used to have. Never understood why they didn't just make it the home. Less definitely isn't more when it comes to the Suns guernseys.

Well last year Melbourne were claiming it was SDN Round a week before because they wanted to wear their indigenous guernsey in Alice Springs and the ground was painted up like it was. By doing this it also allows every team except Carlton and Port to wear their indigenous guernsey at home (although Carlton play at both their home grounds) within "Sir Doug Nicholls Round".

You're saying the 2019 clash is superior to the 2018 clash?
In my opinion, absolutely. Has a boldness to it, despite the simplicity. GC's white clash attempts up until now have been nothing short of deplorable. Good to see them mix it up - AFL seemingly has loosened its 'must-have-a-white-clash-strip' constraint on teams.

I feel like the Suns jumpers overall could be improved if they just changed the colour of the logo on the jumper to better compliment the design instead of just planting the gradient logo on all of them. What I think would work best is red GC letters on a yellow background for the home, blue GC and a yellow background for this new clash, and a yellow GC on a red background for an alternate yellow kit.

EDIT: Sorry if that’s unclear, would try and demonstrate but not really a graphic designer, just a jumper enthusiast

Agree with the comments regarding the Gold Coast wave, always been my favourite GC jumper (not that there's been that many to choose from).

I also believe the Wave was the last time we saw a team wear a different jumper when they were on the road, regardless of whether the home jumper could be worn. Not the worst idea in my opinion, I was only just born when the Cats did it, but it would certainly help from a commercial standpoint

Until 2017 West Coast Eagles had navy home & royal away, also the Lions.

Completely forgot about the Eagles, their jumper set up was so natural I never even thought of them. Good pick up :thumbsu:

Hawks have had an away guernsey for the last six years :) Is that similar to what you mean?

Absolutely, thats the path I was going down, although the Hawks did miss a few weeks here and there, especially compared to some teams about 15-20 years ago when away jumpers were all the rage. Now that I think about, I probably should have researched this more before posting :p

That 2018 GC Clash is easily the best guernsey they've ever produced (excl. that nice Shanghai one).

I know I'm in the minority with my views on Gold Coast, in that I don't think their home jumper is that bad, although I do think that they should ditch the blue and go with red, gold and white as their colours. The shades of red/gold/blue that they use just don't go that well together.

That said, I don't hate the concept behind the new clash. Its just the home jumper but using a different base colour, which is my general philosophy when it comes to coming up with clash jumpers.

Still can't believe how many people liked that wave jumper. It was alllll kinds of ugly.
