Yeah but the point is that 'soccer' is not a specifically American term. The word 'soccer' is used to refer to soccer in countries where soccer is not the number 1 football code. For example, in Ireland soccer gets called soccer. The Statue of Liberty originated in France yet is seen as American today.

Pathetic nonsensical answer. Just admit you were wrong dude, we're all wrong sometimes and it shows character. The Statue of Liberty originated in France yet is seen as American today.

The season goes much longer and there's more content tho.also the talk of afl as the #1 sport is interesting; the numbers posted up thread seem to say that test cricket is just as big a ratings juggernaut in sport in oztraya
Cricket is as important IMO, for Kayo it fills the summer gap in the footy season nicely and keeps the tier 1 content stream flowing.also the talk of afl as the #1 sport is interesting; the numbers posted up thread seem to say that test cricket is just as big a ratings juggernaut in sport in oztraya

Because all politicians no matter what side they are stupid plus the AFL couldn’t organise a root in a brothel and only way the Indian community of Melbourne and Indian Government would be interested is if you had Kolli and Tendulkar in AFL jumpers promoting the game.I think it shows the importance of the afl really capturing the northern markets over time, but also the importance of at least attempting to capture the Indian Australian community. There are now 370k people of Indian descent in Melbourne.
I was surprised to see the Victorian government are promoting the domestic Indian sport of kabadi in Melbourne, which is good, yet in that deal they didn't ask the Indian government to promote the Victorian invented sport of Australian football, into India. A missed opportunity.

Mind my club has a bloke called Ponting as a supporter but that means nothing and we all know Indians like him.
the thing that i don't think that's been discussed in this thread is that shortly after the sale of foxtel to dazn goes thru, it's likely that the sale of dazn to the pif will go through as dazn itself is in a mountain of debt
not sure a privately owned sports streaming company owned by the saudis cares about advertising; they're not beholden to shareholders

Test cricket......as in 5 tests are year and....mainly during the holiday season and.....mainly really when it's england and india.....and...
...or you can just look at the TV dollars where the AFL gets far more than international cricket / BBL from both fox and 7
The northern markets are clearly key here.big bash is doing over 2.2m viewers a night on c7, which i think is more than nrll on 9 and afl on 7 combined on an equivalent friday night
there's far less content cycles of cricket compared to afl and nrl; would be interesting to see a $ vs broadcast hours comparison
no doubt afl / nrl and cricket must be pretty important for c7 or c9 as it used to be

You thought wrong. You are confusing reach with average. It is actually not too dissimilar to what the AFL gets.....the ratings when they are not following one of the biggest boxing day tests ever were lower.....
.....whatever you think this means, the BBL cut back from a high of 61 games to 44 precisely because its popularity waned when it over extended. Cricket's "cycle" was traditionally October to March but really now it can only sustain attention for 2 months a year and can struggle if India or England aren't here
Rugby League has far more a case for number 2 sport than cricket has for number 1
lcso the reach of an afl friday night game last year was, what, 3m during the finals campaign? what was it during the regular reason?
either way you slice it, it's huge to have regular content you can rely on to deliver those sorts of eyeballs consistently night to night
my point was more that having one of the winter codes AND the cricket should be vital for fta broadcasters, hence why c7 must be pleased with how well bbl is doing these past couple of seasons after all the acrimony at the start of the deal btw the channel and cricket oztraya
shame the quality of the players participating has fallen markedly from the glory days of yore
