2005 AFL GRAND FINAL:
Geelong DEF Port Adelaide
A surprise to all see's the Melbourne Demons finish on top of the AFL ladder for the first time in decades, yet faulter in the finals. 2nd place Geelong qualifies to host the Grand final at the MCG against 4th placed Port Adelaide, the reigning premier, who advances into the grand final be beating 3rd place St.Kilda in a ripping preliminary final, similar to the corresponding game of 2004.
Bookies find it hard to split the two teams going into the match, but its the Cats that come out fireing and hold a 20-point lead at quarter time. They advance their lead to 43 points midway through the second quarter until Port Adelaide start a massive fightback to get the difference to just 11 points at the main change. The 3rd quarter is goal for goal intense football as neither side can get away until the final 5 minutes when Gary Ablett junior kicks one of the goals of the year from the boundary followed by another set shot minutes later to give the Cats a 25-point buffer. The Cats hold on in the last quarter to win by 32 points - ending a 42 year drought.
2006 AFL GRAND FINAL
Brisbane Lions DEF St.Kilda
St.Kilda begins the finals as flag favourites after finishing atop the table for the first time since 1997. The Lions finish second, rebounding from a dissapointing 8th place finish in 2005. The Saints wollop Geelong in the preliminary final to be raging favourites for the Grand Final, the first played in the completely finished MCG. Over 100,000 fans pack the sides ancicipating St.Kilda to finally score its second premiership, but its not to be, as Brisbane give a commanding performance from the opening bounce. They kick the first 5 goals and lead by 35 points at quarter time. The margin is over 10 goals at half time and the match is all but over. The Saints hold Brisbane off in the final half, but it's another Grand Final that is far from being a classic. Lions by 56 points. Fantastic effort by Brisbane - premiers 4 times in 6 years.
2007 AFL GRAND FINAL
Richmond DEF Essendon
The battle of the sash's - and the first all Victorian Grand Final since 2000. Richmond is the big improver of 2007 and surptises most 'experts' by finishing atop the table, and making their first Grand final in 27 years by thrashing West Coast and St.Kilda in the finals. Essendon score a one point preliminary final win over Port Adelaide in Adelaide to keep the decider an all-vic affair.
This Grand Final is a classic - one to remember. Essendon lead by 10 points at quarter time, then Richmond by 10 at half time. The third quarter is magic football. Lloyd boots his 100th and 6th for the match a minute in [fantastic effort that he is still going this strong in 2007!], and no more than two kicks seperate the sides until the end of the match. Bombers hit the lead only once more though, with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd term they edge a point in front, until it is answered by Rhodan on the siren by Richmond to give the tiges a 5-point buffer. The last quarter is sensational - and with 3 minutes to play the margin is only 2 points in Richmonds favour. But a goal to Matthew Richarson 90 seconds from the final siren fives Richmond a 9 point buffer - the eventual winning margin. Tiger fans roar - a fantastic premiership win.
2008 AFL GRAND FINAL
St. Kilda DEF Collingwood
St.Kilda and Collingwood finish 1st and 2nd respectively and are destined to play off in the Grand Final - which they do. Oddly enough, both previous years Grand Finalists, Richmond and Essendon, both fail to make the finals this year. The Saints do not want to let this one slip. Despite being just one qpot above Collingwood on the end of season ladder, they have 20% more on their percentage and are also 2 games clear on top. Bouyed by their dissapointing 2006 Grand Final display, St.Kilda comes out fireing and leads by 20 points midway through the first quarter - but the pies come back and the scores are dead level at quarter time. Senceing that St.Kilda is getting shaking, and thinking this is a great opportunity to break a 16-year premiership drought, Collingwood flood the backline and try to revert to a possesion game that will hopfully overwhelm St.Kilda, who's main strength is their potent forarwd line. But its to no avail - as St.Kilda win an ugly qaurter and are up by 10 points at half time. The last half is pure bliss for Saints fans as they run away from Collingwood and win by 41 points. The party lasts for months for long suffering Saints fans - they have finally won their second premiership - and once again it was against Collingwood!!
2009 AFL GRAND FINAL
Collingwood DEF West Coast
Finally its the pies year. West Coast finishes atop the ladder for the first time since 1994 and makes the Grand final without much flair with routine victories at home against Port Adelaide and St.Kilda. Collingwood defeat Geelong in a thrilling preliminary final yet somehow enter the Grand final warm favourites - possibly because West Coast had only played on the MCG once before in the season - a 60 point drubbing by Essendon. At last Collingwood fans can celebrate again. The match is played in a heavey downpoar with a howling gale - the worst conditions at an AFL Grand Final for decades. Collingwood win the toss and kick with the wind and are up by 35 at quarter time - and not much changes for the rest of the match with them finaly winning by 47 points in an ugly game. Still, the Collingwood supporters have reason to celebrate as they grab their first premiership since 1990.
Nearly fell over when I saw this comment. Fringe players, rejects.....as opposed to the star quality of Daniel Harford, Glenn Bowyer, Steve Kenna, Brett Johnson etc. Couldn't even get in the squad for the 15th placed Hawks. Yeah, he really makes you earn your spot does Pagan.cypher said:Norman,Walker,Sporn,Davies, Russell(hopefully), Thornton,Fisher,Houlihan and Waite are the real deal. Unlike Xavier Clarke,Brooks,Ackland,Fiora,Murray who are just fringe players and rejects who wouldn't get a game under Pagan with their history and work ethic.
That response is so inane it doesn't deserve any further comment.
The institutions are more likely full of bigfooty's saints fans who think they're going to emulate brisbane's success.Hanis said:Its pathetic and really sad however Cypher's demented ramblings justify Australia's need to establish more secure mental institutions
Have to wholeheartedly agree with you there. You just beat me to both points.theorangeapple said:what on earth is richmond doing winning a flag in 3 yrs. in 3 yrs they will more than likely be back where they are at the moment. new coach, more draft picks for coming last and the regulation board room battles.
almost as ludicrus is the pies winning a flag? they wont even anywhere near enough top liners. their best 2 young players right now are a soft pink pixie in Fraser and a inconsistant goal sneak in didak.
eddiesmith said:Gotta love the hate for Collingwood around here. St Kilda have 2, maximum 3 yrs to win a flag. By the end of 3 yrs, half the current side will be elsewhere, either retired or left for more money. An arrogant lot who will leave for money before building success at St Kilda. Collingwood the furthest from a flag? I think we are closer than Richmond, Hawthorn, Freo, Melbourne, Sydney as well as Adelaide and Essendon which were mentioned

Have a look at what can happen over 5 years.
Collingwood
1999- 16th
2000 - 15th
2001 - 9th
2002 - 2nd (9 points away from a premiership)
2003 - 2nd (59 points away from a back to back premiership).
Collingwood_Forever said:Hey Garth P....when was the last time St Kilda won a flag???? Also was that the only flag in your history????? I think so. So mate, don't go baggging Carlton and Collingwood who have 30 flags between them you clown!!!!! Come back and talk after your side has won a flag!!!
We lost by 9 and 50 points in both the GFs is what I meant. I know I didn't make that clearer. Oh and also it should be 10 and 51 points otherwise we'd draw it.skywalk750 said:I dont see how winning it would have made it back to back
