What are the positive signs so far? Were up one week down the next only 2 sides I can see us beating are Port Adelaide and Gold Coast. Voss has been in charge for 3 years now and has gone from being a Good Coach to Poor Old Crazy Voss. We have kids yes and shouldn't expect too much but we have more experienced side then West Coast, Richmond and Melbourne. Which are showing something more than us right now is I correct?

Now if we go to the MCG next weekend and get thumped by 10 goals people will be calling for the sacking of Voss am I right? After the 72 point loss to dogs they all wanted him gone here in Melbourne and where asking for Roos to be the coach next year.

Here is an example of where I think we are right now and are heading.Melbourne 2006-2011 and The Brisbane Lions 2009-2011

Melbourne were in the same boat 2007,They played in finals 2006 and look like a decent side like we did in 2009.2007 hit and the Demons fell to 14th on the ladder and the next couple of years stayed a bottom 4 side. We have gone down the same path with aging stars. Simon Black who looks to slow for the game at the moment though has the foot skills to keep his spot,J.Brown the inspirational leader who has been dogged by injure the last 2 years and Luke Power could just be our best forward pocket for another year or two.

Now let’s look what the Demons had.
Russell Robertson
Byron Pickett
David Netiz
James McDonald
Travis Johnstone
Adem Yze

You look at that older crop of players there kind of are similar to ours for the period of time. So it is hard to say that there is no truth in the madness of that. We are in financial trouble like they was and are stuck at the cross roads praying our luck will change, fan's hanging on to hope that is just not there and is a lot further away then we think. A new coach with experience might just be what we need or we might be still stuck in a lie like Melbourne and Baileys so called rise to the top 8, which might be a year longer then expected.

Could add more depth to the above post but my grammar skills aren't the best.So can you see where I am coming from or do I just go in to full detail and try my best with the grammar ?

Oh dear...Mickey Mickey Mickey, what are we going to do with you?!

Settle down a bit mate...you know what has gone on this last 12mnths, both good and bad, so lets not rehash over it.....but this year shows far more promise with the kids etc and things settling down behind the scenes..

Most unfortunant that Browny and Staker went down, that is not anything Voss could control....the rest is on the up side, but we have to wait while it all falls into place....and be patient!

There will be disappointments along the way, but we'll get there Mickey, just you wait and see!

...and Vossy will be the one to take us there:thumbsu:

Our list distribution would be similar to what most teams have had at one point or another over the last decade, not just Melbourne.

In 2006 Hawthorn were at a similar stage with a small group of experienced players and a lot of young players. They looked hopeless, and had long losing streaks. The coach was under the pump. Two years later they won the premiership.

But we are not Hawthorn, and we are not Melbourne. We have our own players, and their destiny remains to be seen.

Well with the financial troubles right now and with what we already lost in Fevola which is costing us a fortune.Brennan and Rischtelli who went to the Gold Coast.Aging veterans in Brown,Black and Power who are coming to the end of there careers.Who ever else that is decent are WA boys and WCE have a'lot of money to spend. We could lose a few and you got GWS and Free agency coming as well.Finish bottom 4 and West Coast playing decent footy the go home factor looks nice with a healthy pay rise to go with it.Might just be the offer some might not be able to refuse.

If Voss don't go I hope they bring some experienced coaching staff in to help him, cause it's going to be a long road a head.

What does this have to do with Voss?

Was replying to Macmum it didn't quote.

What I saying to that is we could lose those kids. It's a new era and money talks these days.

You're winding yourself up for no good reason. Sure, we could lose some kids, as could every club in the competition. No point losing sleep over it. The best way to counter that is by making sure our young group is invested in the program Vossy has put together, and the shared goals they're working towards. Despite all the bullshit that's been said in the press, Voss is a commanding leader, and the young blokes relish being coached by the player widely regarded as the best of the generation that's come right before them.

You could be right but still a'bit iffy on Voss going forward.Paul Roos or Mick Malthouse if decides to coach again, might just be what we need.Though might be out of our price range.Anyway expressed my opinion now, If we lose to the tigers by 7 plus goals you will see far worse then my argument.Happy Easter to you all.

Mickey, your posts seem to be restricted to having a ‘snapshot’ vision.

The facts that you base your arguments on would be similar to suggesting Melbournes weather is getting colder, therefore the ice age has started, I blame the atheists.

The facts;

  • When was the last day over 30 degrees?
  • We have had 4 mornings over the last few weeks of temps below 10 degrees
  • This happened again this morning – during Easter
  • Pope Benedict has lamented the widespread abandonment of religion in Western countries
  • God must be angry at all atheists
  • John has suggested he is an atheist
  • Therefore Brisbane will be 2:12 at round 14

The solution;

  • Sack Voss
  • Get rid of any player who has been on the list for more than 3 years
  • Sack Voss
  • Play the AFLQ team instead of the Brisbane Lions to speed up development
  • Sack Voss – and get Roos or Malthouse but do it at the end of the season and I promise you the temperature in Melbourne will start to increase again and within a month or two it will occasionally return to 30 degrees.

Luv ya work MBE - your posts at times frustrate me at times but if I try hard they can still make me smile... :)

*edit - oh and John should consider becoming a non-atheist... [wink]

Paul Roos, Mick Malthouse and any other might be successful coaches, but Mickey, none of them will love, really love our club like Vossy does...and his pride (and stubborness) in our club is what will see him succeed..He was that sort of captain.....he will be that sort of coach..

He might make a few mistakes, but that is how you learn and become better at what it is you are trying to do..

Have faith in Voss, Mickey...he's a few years behind these other guys, but like them, he had to start somewhere, and I'm glad its with us, where he belongs!

...p.s.....I couldn't stand seeing our M. Voss coaching another team to a premiership:eek:

Mickey, you've taken the trouble to write a thought-out post, so I'll respond.

Take a look at the names of the young players on melbourne's list: Jones, Ward, Brown, Sylvia, Bell, Bate, Godfrey, McLean, Dunn. Those are the player that managed to play half the games in 2007. Yes, some of those are still around And playing well, but many of those were list cloggers. Sure, we have some of those also, but without bias I'd say that our kids coming through (especially the mids) are of a higher quality that those names above.

It's far too simplistic to look for precedence with other lists at other times and expect it to be true.

I forgot to ask you Mickey....did you ring SEN this morning (late) and talk to Robbo and Wallace about Voss?..

The person was saying things similar to what you have been saying here, and I thought of you, just sounded like your posts;)

Whoever it is, is not doing Voss or our Club any favours by the way..

..at least they (SEN) stuck up for Voss a bit, and said all the past dramas and drafting were not all his fault....then went on to say Gubby Allen and Bowers had to take their share of the blame..

Nope I didn't ring SEN and I just expressed my opinion on this matter like the rest. Usually when I do this they stick it up my butt.

I think Voss needs to be judged in 2 stages. His first 2 years as coach he was coaching a side pushing finals and going for the flag. In that time we played some good footy, won a finals team, then had a year from hell. I think as a coach in this period he did well, very well considering the 'support' he had from the club and the state that it was being run in.

This year he needs to start with a clean slate. The club has gone through a major overhaul, we have new people at the top, new staff and a new look coaching staff. Most importantly, the club has taken the approach of rebuilding for the future, this is not the same goals and direction as the previous 2 years.

So whilst the club and playing list appears to have gone backwards and the club slid down the ladder during Vossies time as coach, it's because half way through we've decided to start over. This year he needs to be judged by the development from the start to the end of the year.

An important thing in judging Voss this season is that you have to consider the mistakes of the past but you can't give them too much weight. If the too much is put on the errors last year then there is no point him coaching this year.

So far there is plenty to like about the new coaching set up this year.
