Not sure that's the best example. I might be wrong, but to my knowledge, he has only invited Casey and they live together, are pretty close and Casey doesn't really have any family over here.
Not trying to knock Cripps or the gesture, but inviting your housemate, who is about 17,000kms away from his family, back to the farm over a family holiday period, is a bit different to inviting multiple teammates on a bonding excursion.

True but then add the extra training he himself undertook and I understand (but not totally sure of) that that did influence a couple of others (???) to do extra over the break.

as mentioned b4 I would vote for Doc so I m not trying to sell Cripps at all just showing that he would also be a good captain.
Which means that our club is going to benefit if either are selected.

Cripps.....Very competitive, loves to win,his strength gives confidence and belief and will lift a team, hopefully the blues will see more wins than losses after the next year or so,we need more contributors such as Cripps on our team because being positive is the formula in the Afl and yes he is a team man.....not yet though.say least 3 yrs....Marc Murphy is an elite talent always has been,he though is not extrovert and not a natural team leader ,he goes about his job no fuss and quietly ....Simpson would be a better leader, loves to win and very Carlton- he can share captaincy with Murphy till retirement.

Until Doc became heir-apparent, I liked the idea of Touhy. Never takes a backward step, never waits to be told, not afraid to say what he thinks.

Exactly the sort of player I don't want to leave. :-(

Otherwise it's Doc by a mile. If he wants it. I think he does.

Sam Docherty, head and shoulders above anyone else for mine.
Same. Carlton to the core and takes his in the backline role very seriously. No doubt Cripps would do a great job also, with his passion and leading by example, but I get the feeling in a Grand Final senario, you'd want Doc to Marshall the troops and keep the heads calm ...or Cripps to steal a goal outta the centre, with 30 seconds to go and 5 points down...

Seems quite conclusive who we prefer here , which is very understandable when you see him speak to media and realise he only 23yo ..i would make him Captain next year as i see him holding it for the next 7-8 years...

Cripps or Docherty would both make great captains, for different reasons. Cripps is the guy you'd look to in a big game, when the chips are down for a match winning effort and lift the team. Sam is the leader marshalling the troops and giving directions.

Tough call - may come down to a sing off and who can belt out the best version of Stand by your man.

Exactly how I see it. I'd probably go Doc over Cripps though as Doc seems to be a natural leader and I'd want Cripps burdon free and ready to rip games apart.

Unlikely to be Doc as he is very divisive amongst the players, it's not likely going to be taken off Murphy anytime soon anyway, but both Cripps and Weitering are more likely.

Why is Docherty divisive amongst the players? What does he do wrong?

Seems like a natural born leader on the field and great in interviews and other media.

Very good and very professional, and he still could be captain, but he's a no-bullshit kind of guy that would tell Murphy off if he ****ed up, for example. Not everyone responds well to criticism. To be captain he'd need to balance his leadership style better than he does at the moment, he has high expectations of everyone, but it's a negative kind of style.

Demands a lot from himself, demands a lot from his teammates. Perfect. They have mollycoddled each other for far too long. This bullshit where the team vote for their leaders is crap too. I wonder how many of our former captains would have got the gig if they did that back then.

Yeah I kind of agree with this. I mean, Murphy was never a guy who demanded things from his teammates. Same with Judd. They both seem like lead by example guys who try to set an example and hope the guys follow.

I think it's time we had a captain who was a no bollocks leader who demands his teammates lift. If Murphy doesn't like being told he didn't go at the ball hard enough or didn't play well enough he probably isn't the right leader.

Look at Selwood, Hodge, Voss, Ricciuto, Johno Brown. I bet every one of them would tell a teammate they stuffed up if/when the situation calls for it without blinking.

Obviously there is a time and place for it, perhaps that's something he could/needs to work on. But imho I think that's the type of leader we need and have been lacking for a long time.

Could be, the Murphy example was completely hypothetical just to make that clear, and with experience perhaps Doc would make a great captain, it won't be anytime soon though.

Yeah I didn't think it was. But it did cross me as likely that he might be one of the guys who didn't like having his mistake pointed out by another player.

At least, a player who wasn't an institution such as Simpson. I reckon he'd take that on board, but if someone he didn't view in that light did it wouldn't surprise me if he got a bit funny about that.
