NFL Div 1 - Season 2012

Quality game of football at Yulong today. The Berger's would be pleased with their effort after being two key defenders down after 15 minutes. Bundoora would be happy to notch up another win.

Fair chance these two sides will be in the big one again this year.

Agree with the quality of the game. I see the bergs big concern this year being their depth. Their two's have only managed 24 goals in 6 games and there doesnt seem any quality players that can step up to the 1sts if needed. A few injuries like the weekend could see them struggle.

Gents - sorry to just drop in like this. I have a question about player contracts. Can clubs sign players onto standard agreements anytime during the pre season? Is there a date at which contracts can only be signed after?? e.g. Can a player sign with another club in mid September 2011 for the following season?

Cheers Al

They will always be a threat while they have Big Mick Gay smashing the ball out of the ruck and giving the first use at every contest. Noticed Stinga getting a bit slow and even having to give some of the younger blokes a reminder of who he was. An ageing list at the Bergs, but a very hard one. Don't take your eye off them or they will bite you.;)

I am not sure players contracts are overly legal binding. But I am sure a player can sign a 'contract' in mid Sep 2011 for the next season however I believe the clearance process does not commence until 01 Feb of the next year (so for Sep 11 this would be Feb 12). The cut-off for clearances for the season I believe is 1 Jun or 1 Jul? If that's is of any help.

A few injuries?? The Bergs have been decimated this season already by injuries.
Miller
Caddy
Healey
Gay
Nolan - Lofty
Shiels
Coff
Iezzi
Crispe
Cosgriff
Giles
Ryan Lee

Add Jackson & Symes after the past weekend.

With Rowan Williams, Stanton and Spence missing still. Adds a fair bit of depth when/if they return.

Thanks for your help Denny.

A mate was telling me on the weekend that an ammo player signed with an efl club in septemeber last year. He has not played a game with the club, hardly trained during pre season because of injury, owes them nothing and now wants to return to his original VAFA club. His clearance has been refused because he is contracted and the club is worried that it will set a precedence for other players within the club.

Stanton won't be back, playing for the slime

Any truth to the rumour the bergers made a big play for Shane Harvey upon his return to the kennel?

I have no idea about his circumstances but its a great show of loyalty by the bloke to play division 2 football when he could play anywhere he wanted for coin.

Hands down the best footballer in the NFL.

No big play, didn't get that far, just a quiet call from a relative.

At 33 you think Stinga would be slowing down yet he is still being tagged by supposedly the best side in the competition.

I think you will find that even though he has signed a contract,my understanding of it is as he hasn't played a game it would make the contract null and void and he should automatically be cleared back.Maybe the ammos run to different guidelines(They're wouldn't be a match fee on the contract though because they supposedly don't get paid in the ammos!!)

Looks like this story is gaining momentum:
AFL official Ali Fahour faces investigation after he was accused of an ugly incident in local footy crowd

The key witness in the Matt Rendell race row is under investigation for his alleged involvement in an ugly incident in a local football match on Saturday.

Ali Fahour, an AFL official, is alleged to have engaged in crowd violence in a Northern Football League game.
It follows an earlier incident involving Fahour playing for West Preston-Lakeside.
Fahour was present when sacked Adelaide Crows recruiter Rendell told AFL community engagement officer Jason Mifsud he would not draft indigenous footballers unless they had a white parent.
The AFL said it was aware of the NFL incident but declined to comment.
"The matter will be heard by the tribunal," a spokesman said.
Fahour, the AFL's multicultural manager, is alleged to have jumped the fence during Saturday's match against Northcote Park and struck a supporter.

A witness told the Herald Sun that Northcote Park supporters were racially vilifying Fahour after he tangled with opponent Jake Mills in the third quarter at Bill Lawry Oval.
Fahour won a free kick as Mills was yellow-carded for striking. He took his kick before charging over the fence and into the crowd.
About 50 people are alleged to have brawled before an umpire instructed Fahour to return to the field and handed him a yellow card.
NFL chief executive Jeremy Bourke said the league's investigating officer was set to conduct interviews on Tuesday night and Fahour was likely to face the tribunal on Tuesday.
West Preston-Lakeside president Graham Mills said Fahour had not yet been charged.
Fahour was cleared of a misconduct charge in round one.

... Fahour won a free kick ... He took his kick before charging over the fence and into the crowd ...

Shoulda done the business first then taken his free kick. However, on serious note. This incident doesn't surprise me. Some of the verbal coming from supporters at times makes me cringe. Fortunately, they're a minority.

So you were in two places at once? Before you throw some crap out on here, think about it.

Ali should've been red carded, you can't run off the field and confront supporters. Umpires got that wrong, no surprise there.

Here is a statement released by the NFL

NFL clarifies newspaper article
Wednesday, May 23, 2012
The Northern Football League would like to clarify and correct statements made in an article published in the Herald Sun today (Wed. May 23).
The NFL is currently conducting an investigation into a report that a West Preston-Lakeside player left the playing field during play to engage in a spectator dispute. At no stage has the NFL named the player involved nor has the NFL made any determination as to whether or not charges should be laid.

The nature of the spectator dispute is also under investigation however the notion that up to 50 people are “alleged to have brawled” is misleading and not factual. The nature of the dispute was minor, ended very quickly and was primarily between two individuals.

With regards to claims of racial vilification, no reports or complaints have been made prior to or at this stage of the investigation. The notion that Northcote Park supporters were responsible is firmly rejected by the club and not backed by any evidence or statements made to the League. The NFL would also like to correct the statement made by the paper that Northcote Park player Jake Mills was yellow-carded for striking. The player was given a card for a minor rough conduct offence which resulted in a free kick to an opposition player.

The NFL prides itself in providing a highly entertaining product in a safe and family-friendly environment. Misconception through powerful forums have the potential to undermine the enormous work the NFL does in the community. The NFL takes very seriously any action or incident that contravenes the laws of the game or has the potential to bring the game or the League into disrepute, and these will be dealt following established due process.

I see your tongue is planted firmly in your cheek. :thumbsu:

On your second comment I agree, however I like the odd verbal exchange some supporters come up with, some are funny, however when it gets racial/overly personnel etc you would hope their mates around them pull them up.

This sort of incident should not have happened, it does surprise me that NP supporters are bing accused of racial comments, they are a very proud multi-cultural club and I am sure would not stand for that kind of supporters comments.

Just throwing a question out there. To anyone involved at any of the clubs that have players come back from VFL clubs when available. Does this have any negative effect on players who train at the club being dropped to fit them back in for 1 game. Realy just curious how it works with some clubs doing it and others chosing not to.
