Season 2012 is upon us. Lets move away from the off season thread and onto this.

Good luck to all through the season.

They Say - Epping are not quite living up to the hype at that moment
They Say - Sheppard kicked a lazy 14 on the weekend for Lalor
They Say - Once North’s big men are back for injury that they will be very hard to stop
They Say - Hurstbridge touched up a struggling TOC up at the white elephant along the Murray
They Say - Diamond Creek put on a clinic against Whittlesea
They Say - Thomastown are on the recruiting war-path for their 19's to prosper again this season
They Say - Fitzroy Stars have recruited very well in the off-season and could push finals
They Say - Diamond Creek are making room and dusting the shelves in the trophy cabinet - Could be a big year for the demons...?!?

How is Troy Luff looking down at South Morang? Surely with his talent and AFL experience he could push the lions into the finals?

Selections for the opening round of matches.

Diamond Creek vs Hurstbridge The Demons appear to have recruited well
Epping vs Thomastown Another team to have recruited extremely well
South Morang vs Fitzroy Stars The Stars are usually very slow starters
North Heidelberg vs Lalor Traditional rivals now a shadow of their former selves

As we are on the verge of a new season, thought that I'd put forward my thoughts of the finihsing order of the teams after the home and home games. Epping looks to be the standout team having strengthened their squad with some good recruiting, while Diamond Creek has also strengthened their squad. Lalor will be thereabouts again while North Heidleberg are possibly the sleepers along with South Morang who also has done well picking up a host of former Bulls.

Epping
Diamond Creek
Lalor
South Morang
North Heidelberg
Thomastown
Hurstbridge
Fitzroy Stars

Fitzroy Stars, have picked up a few great new players, lacked lustre in the first half, but flogged us in the second half. Their no. 3 and 14 did extremely well, where Matt Manning and Troy Jinette were SM best.

They Say - South Morang will not be a disgraced in season 2012 and should have a ripper 2nd half of the season
They Say - Lalor looked very unimpressive against a injury depleted North Heidelberg
They Say - Hurstbridge are checking out the scores in 3rd divsion a little closer than most already
They Say - Epping have moved into Flag Fav and looked very sharp across the ground
They Say - Thomastown were very very disappointing...

If Morang play anywhere near the standard of the practice match vs Mernda, they will struggle all year. Hurstbridge will drop down to div 3 next year.

To the Hurricane
Having read a number of your deflamatory comments re: SM , just want to know why are you so constantly negative towards them, They won the Div 3 flag, with only two losses, for the whole season. Both losses were only 5 point difference. Yet every opportunity you get, you put the boot in. Lets see how Mernda go the whole season, before you get so critical.

Number 3, Captain Lionel Proctor has been a great player at the Stars, winning all 4 of their Best and Fairest's since they joined the league and winning a league Best and Fairest in the process.

Stars started slow, but looked good after half time, turning a 3 goal deficit into a 7 goal win.

Big game against North Heidelberg.

Sometimes the truth hurts Roaring, and yes its early in the season.

The hurricane, give it a rest SM lost their first game of the season last season then went onto win the flag in Div 3, yep Div 2 may be harder but look out when the boy's find their feet in Div 2, strong chance to be top 5.
A BBBig win this week against the young Bridges.

Long time looker first time on....1 game gone & this division looking good already...I am a Doggie supporter & looking forward to travelling to away clubs for a great day of footy & cold piss...enjoy

C'mon mate , not gonna make top 5 but they will be competitive I reckon

Week 2

Going by last week you could not pick Hurstbridge, So South Morang to win by 4 goals.
Lalor are always hard to beat at home but Epping to win by 3 goals.
Still red hot favorites for the flag Diamond Creek will be to strong for Thomo by 6 goals.
Match of the round North Heidelberg v Fitzroy Stars, I think Stars will be a top 3 team this year and will account for the dogs by 2 goals.
Good Luck to All Go Pingers :D

You play for epping or something ??

They Say - Hurstbridge do not have a forward line so it may be hard to kick a score to beat South Morang...?
They Say - Lalor are without a Full Forward again and a few players to miss the rounds following. Could be a long year for the bloods Epping by 12 goals
They Say - North are very pumped after a long spell between wins, North by 8 goals
They Say - Diamond Creek were not that impressive last week up till half time until Hurstbridge ran out of steam with no pre-season, Diamo by 3 goals

Two great match-ups this round.

Hurstbridge vs South Morang We'll know how bad or food the Lions loss was last week from other results but they should comfortably topple the Bridges who appear to be facing a cold winter.
Lalor vs Epping Shepherd back strengthens the Bloods but the Blues just look too strong across all lines.
Thomastown vs Diamond Creek The Demons shouldn't have too many issues building up another big score.
North Heidelberg vs Fitzroy Stars The Doggies get some grunt back although they lose Dean and will intimidate the Stars who travel to the Kennel for the first time.

Well done Stude, all tips correct, yes, SM beat hurstbridge, 23 points, SM ahead by 6 goals, half time, then bridge picked up their tempo and got close in 3rd quarter, but SM pulled away. Umpires, kept blowing the whistle, for everything and then some. Players became frustrated, and started getting angry at each other with all the stopping and starting. The game just does not flow like it used too, When one of our players nicely asked why all the easy free kicks, his reply was "keep that up and you'll get a free against you." Sure they're trying to clean up the game, but players are becoming more frustrated....!!!!!!!!
