I spoke to someone close within the club, dean was sacked cos of the way he managed his suspension and other managing issues. If the club is sending out a message to everyone involved around there that they are fair dinkum about the way they are heading towards the future and that they want to have a red hot go and a good culture , then i applaud the sacking. It's gotta start from the top for the rest to follow

I guess time will tell about the culture it'll take more than making dean a scapegoat to fix the culture

Reading between the lines of the two articles It would seem the recruiting of outside players has played a part in this.
Muscat said in the article that Morang arer looking forward to going full steam ahead, winning games and being a very competitive team as we have been in the past - if they won on the weekend theyd be clear on top? o_O

Just a casual observation

Banyule = look to be the firming favourite after a going undefeated against a tough month of footy, could this be the year for the bears? Hoping stars Kroussaratis and Yarwood stay injury free

South Morang = tracking along solidly until a tumultuous week losing to the Bears and sacking the coach shook things up. Interesting to see what direction they take kids v veterans

West Heidelberg = much improved as expected. 3 comfortable wins against teams they should beat in Kilmore Reser and Laurimar only slip up was a bad quarter against Mernda. Next 4 weeks will tell if they are a genuine finals threat

Epping = really patchy form early but are starting to get some continuity again. Expect them to be there abouts right at the end of the season. The draw really opens up in the back half of the year can finish top2

Kilmore = like west much improved with 3 wins against reservoir Laurimar and a great win v Mernda after being touched up at home by WH they might struggle against the big body sides with potent forward lines in the back half of the year.

St Mary = just going early on struggled against Epping early and Banyule and got out of jail against Mernda but they appear to still tinkering with there line up but will get going after the break. Ronalds and Walsh are stars but there recruits have left a lot to be desired. Will they go back to the kids?

Mernda = appear to be the big slider relying heavily on too few depth is looks an issue. Apart from the early rounds scoring has dried up. Finals look a long shot

Reservoir = great to see them back on the park and having a real crack at it. A couple of big defeats but the spirit is high. Round 9 v Laurimar will be like a GF for both sides

Laurimar = started positively pushing Kilmore with 2 kicks but as there old bodies start to tire the harder it will get for them. First up season is shaping as a lot tougher than what the power we're expecting going pre season write ups. Shephard and Whitnall te keys in round 9 Match up v Reservoir

You rate Kroussaratis now? You didn't have him in your top 3 forwards in the comp during the pre season.

I heard he whacked someone behind play just before the final siren, watched the replay and all you see is a player on the ground.

Les and an Epping player were standing toe to toe the Epping player give him a jumper punch so Les hit him on the chin. Problem is he has a glass chin and went down like a sack of shit and squealed like a pig at the tribunal .
He got 8 weeks and 2 for attempting to strike in the first quarter.
240 games and never been reported meant zero.8 WTF ?

Unfortunately for South Morang their junior success hasn't translated into senior success at this stage. To wipe the slate clean during the season, move experienced players on, sack the coach that brought them to a prelim in his first year last year seems nonsensical! They are 3-1 for god sake.
They do say SM eat their own. What a culture!

To say it's not a performance based decision to me means that Dean did not show enough love to the powers that be - the committee and or the players. Speaking to some of the players this does not seem to be the case- however I can not speak for all the players. Unfortunately for a coach these days you need to be able to man manage everyone.

It seems from the outside that Gary Hall will try to promote the youth of Morang having been involved at U19 level for some time and knowing that there is a huge upside to the amount of talent the juniors have at the club.

However there needs to be a good balance of youth and experienced hard bodies in this division if they want to play div 2 next year. Hopefully for SM sake all the experienced players don't get burnt like some unfortunately already have.

IMO it's another poor decision by the club who should have at the very least given the current coach a chance to rectify whatever it was that they perceived was holding them back. A phone call sacking is poor form in my book.

SM should be a powerhouse in the NFL and the way things are being run at the moment suggests they will be a div3 team for a while yet.
I hope I'm wrong.

Should take a leaf out of Greensboroughs books. Both have very strong junior bases. One has been the most successful under 19 clubs in the comp of the last decade and a senior team which has had success in recent times. The strength of South in juniors is just as good as Greensborough yet one club is Div 1 one is Div 3 struggling to be promoted, wonder why....

Macleod is another club that used it Juniors very well.
If you don't have kids coming through every year you better have a big check book.
Problem is look at how many club have lost all or most of their junior teams, also the loss of a few junior clubs must be a worry to everyone.

I have had a bit to do with les and not always seen eye to eye on football matters but I would class les as one of the most honourable blokes I have been associated with, he plays footy like a mans man , perhaps pressures outside footy could have frustrated him and to be honest I could understand that with his young child having a few issues, les is a class act and off field I always liked his company despite our differences of opinion on it, if my son could follow in his footsteps I would be pretty bloody happy and proud

If you were at the game, you are either kidding yourself or was watching it through amber glasses. I’ve been involved with a number of DVFL/NFL clubs over many years, and these days just appreciate and enjoy watching good local footballers and young players on the rise running around our local league. On Saturday Judd & Hughes are 2 outstanding kids who are definitely making their mark on the local game, and was great to see Adrian Totino back having a kick again. Les is a player I always enjoy watching - he has been an outstanding footballer for many years, including a successful stint at Epping as a premiership player in 2012. The bloke put up with niggling, behind play sniping all day and some of those Epping players should hang their head in shame with the way they disrespected one of their club’s last premiership players. It was sad to see the bloke pushed to the point of his actions on Saturday, but he was certainly not the one going around “whacking” blokes. If you weren’t at the game, take a look at it before making ill-informed statements on this forum. And as for the hit, it was a return serve – but I see he didn’t get any weeks for his first hit on Les? And on a sidenote, the other Epping player who had been into Les all day and was still mouthing off when the incident happened – Ive never seen a bloke back pedal as quick as he did when it happened. I would love to see how long some of these blokes would have lasted 30 years ago….

If you watch the footage correctly you see les throw the first punch in the 27th minute mark of the first term, I'm a member of the tribunal and honestly good or bad record you cannot punch someone 50 meters behind the play due to offield incidents and think you can get away with it.... glass jaw or not shouldn't be apart of the game settle it like men away from playing arena or man up and buy one another a beer after the game

Lastly 30 years ago haha that's laughable get with the times old fella football has changed no room for thuggery these days

It seems like your from the club and quite strong about the issue..coming from real close information , dean was sacked because he couldn't comply with the guidelines of the club. He got suspended and couldn't adhere to rules of the suspension . If your a senior coach and want to lead by example , then lead by example . Plain and simple . No sympathy here for him. They have a very strong depth going from there seniors , reserves and down there juniors , the club is moving in the right direction. Good on em I say

Yep that's 100% and hearing more players are also not happy with the clubs decision and want out.
What im wondering though is why all the talk surrounds the older players not being happy? Seems to me that this group won't enjoy the change as their hip pockets might feel the pinch

For the record I was there and missed the first incident may have been at the bar but I saw the end of the game and I haven't had a lot to do with Les but I have met him briefly over time. This is no question on his character whatsoever but he is a grown man playing senior footy and the attention he received I'm sure isn't much different to what he has had to put up with in the past he plays hard and he is champion of the league and it goes with territory. Still the game has changed and you simply cannot go whacking blokes "toe to toe" or not. If you do you will pay a price good record or not.
Enough with the love in here. He has been an antagonist for years and ive seen him cross the line consistently. Now we portraying him as a angel. Please
