I still use a set top box - partially due to laziness but have no issues with afl/nrl/college etc. Wonder if is medium will be around much longer as doubt younger people are using them.
Im the same. still like the use of set top box. the current satellite deals with Optus last till 2031 so will be around till then, after that i dont know.

But because of what DAZN did with Gamepass and to make it easier to watch non ESPN college games i pay for Youtube TV 6 months a year to get all the CFB games and packers games without dealing with their shitty service. and im happy to pay a premium and much more then Gamepass as a f**k you to them.

I would just get rid of Foxtel and go youtube full time if they f**k with it, the NFL deal that has most of the games with the stupid world feed has moved me to watching all the NFL games other then TNF on youtube and the delay is fine now under 10 sec.

My Foxtel sub ends in Jan so this just reinforces the decision.

The set top box will survive for a few years yet but can't see any further development in that domain. Man there is a truck load of redundant infrastructure too, look forward to the leaking roofs once people start removing sat dishes.

BUT my big issue with the death of set top boxes is I loved the menu system and ability to channel surf and stumble across unfamiliar content. I won't even see this stuff without a bespoke subscription.

Less of a fan of the carousel menu systems and the AI driven "recommended viewing".

Yeah will be leaving the dish up there. Pretty much out of sight.

Although you know they will kill the WatchAFL app for international fans and sell it through DAZN now. but likely remove the Fox Footy live stream in WatchAFL. and charge more.

so non Aussie AFL fans will feel the pain before we do. But at least that wont take place till 2026 since the deal wont be ticked off for at least 6 months.

They better not! Otherwise I'll buy a cheap arse Foxtel Now sub and VPN....its a lot cheaper.

Sadly they will. No point having watchAFL service when you can fold it into DAZN.

Playback at different speeds is why I like Foxtel set box. Now that 7mate has gone to stream it’s shit watching back games. DAZN will f*** this big time. Saudi ownership can get f***** as well.

I agree but isn't the owner of CUNZ a Russian?

Probably couldn't afford an EPL football team.

Maybe all us Bigfooty plebs should band together and take out a 10 billion dollar loan to buy the service...clearly not having money on a big scale is better than having some money on a small scale.

I think I heard last night that CUNZ will double their size in terms of subs and revenue with the Foxtel acquisition.

How the **** did they win the Gamepass gig and why didn't Murdoch buy them?

It's also a weird approach from pay per view fighting and 2nd tier soccer (in terms of viewership) to NFL and an Australian cable service.

Their aim is to be the primary sport streaming service worldwide. Can't see it happening.

Trying to flog off 10% of the business for $1billion while they can't competently stream a highly anticipated event.

Cash poor and a dodgy product doesn't make for a good business model.
