As an observer from another comp, I couldn’t believe that the premier game of the weekend didn’t have 3 umpires. Is this a NFNL approach. Whilst the game was played in great spirits, I believe both umpires were caught out a few times due to the good ball movement.

Just asking.

It’s always been 2 generally? Are you saying VAFA has 3 in the top comp?

The obvious answer for full home and away rounds is lack of numbers, although this shouldn't be relevant in a split round. Also, not sure what the new administration's attitude is but under the previous administration, requests for extra umpires for certain games (extra boundary umps for finals on the bigger grounds, extra field late in H & A season in big games as prep for finals) were denied. Would be interesting to find out the reasoning behind these decisions.

Fair enough. I find it odd they’d allocate 3 umpires to their premier divisions but expect the lower ones to supply their own in some grades?

Overall I think the umpiring is good in NFNL. Yes 3 would be nice but we are lucky to get 1 these days
'Good' is generous. The whistle gets blown and half the time the players don't know which way the umpire is gonna put their arm up. I know it's a function of low numbers, but to say it's anything better than poor is taking the piss.

Would you do a better job Barrel? Why don't you have a go at it? If you're too gutless then I'd suggest you shut your trap and quit making a fool of yourself.

You're clearly the fool by having the black and white thinking of "If it's so bad, why don't you do it!". How am I making a fool of myself if there's observations that the umpiring standard is poor? I don't think I could do a better job, but that doesn't mean they should be exempt from criticism. You got mates that are umpires or something?

No , just sick of idiots bagging umpires

I don’t have a big issue with it. People sook about afl umpires calling it Piss poor. It’s the hardest game in the world to officiate. Overall I think they league umpires do a great job and nevee does the best side not win due to umpires.

R1 tips

Greensborough to beat Macleod (bit late here, but would have gone this way)

West Preston to beat Hurstbridge

Montmorency to smack Whittlesea for a big score

North Heidelberg to upset the reigning premiers Heidelberg

Bundoora to run over the top of a plucky Banyule side in the 2nd half

Hurstbridge over West at home. But interested to see how WPL shape up this year, big watch on them.

Montmorency should do it comfortably over Whittlesea.

Heidelberg over North - should be a decent game.

Bundoora over Banyule. Too much firepower. Interested to see how the Bears line up with some new additions, think this might be a little closer than predicted though.

My sentiments exactly, you can criticise the standard and be understanding that it's not an easy gig.
