NFNL Div 2 2021

Sad to hear of the passing of Graeme Whitnall, enjoyed having a beer with him at games throughout the last 10 or so years. Condolences go out to Lance, Shane & family
Was a fantastic man ...very quiet didn’t need to say a lot just his presence was enough to get his point across and the way things should be done . Thoughts are with the whole family .

Given the season is so compromised and we may not see another home and away game. Is there any reason to have a promotion or relegation? Why not just keep he same divisions next year?

Or at least give the option to the bottom sides from Div 1 and 2 to drop down if they thinks its best for there club

Cant have a bye in Div 1. Its meant to be the showcase of the league

Compromised for everyone. Any advantage or disadvantage a club thinks they had is a massive 'what if' we have all been in the same boat, sometime COVID effect a round, sometimes you play a side in absolute downpour on a heavy 10 where as the week before the track was a good 4.

Promotion and relegation should happen.

Agree, eliminate byes in Div one and all Divisions if possible.

The question might be will the season actually get finished?

We will be in lockdown for at least 4 weeks IMO

Will be 1v4, 2v3

winners to grand final
That maybe possible.
The question might be do the players want to play.
My understanding is players don’t get paid for finals.
They don’t play the last 2 rounds.
No guarantee the first week of the finals gets played when it is scheduled.
So in theory no football played for 3 to 4 weeks between the last official final round and the first final .
No match payments do the players really want to play?
This scenario probably doesn’t account for all players but might for some
Interesting times ahead for all comps ???

So what your saying is they should not get paid at all???
I’m actually not saying anything just throwing out scenarios.
Some players rely on match payments.
Some players won’t be paid for the last 2 to 3 rounds then expected to play finals.
Some players not all, will say I haven’t played for 4 weeks , I haven’t played for 4 weeks before finals?
Is it really worth the effort?
Some clubs might be financially happy about not paying match payments, who knows???

If there are no more games due to COVID why not promote both Banyule and Lower?
League has already said no relegation next year so that would give an even number of 12 teams in Div 1 next year with two to be relegated the year after.

If your players don’t want to play during finals due to no match payments then you have a shit club.

Won't work. 2 teams up next year which will make 12, which is fine.

The year after you relegate 2 teams, but you still have to promote 1 from Div 2 again. So will make 11 teams

If there are no more games there should be no promotion or relegation. Start again in 2022

Just heard that if the government come back and say no crowds during finals, the NFNL will not be going ahead. They will lose to much money, as the league pays for eveything during finals. Pretty ironic that they made the clubs play with no crowds, knowing full well it will hurt clubs financially in a big way.
Dead set dropkicks that run this comp!

I just posted this in the Div 1 thread but i think it's still applicable in the 10 team D2 comp.

This is obviously a completely unqualified opinion but it would be gut wretching for all volunteers, clubs and players if there was a cancelled season when that much effort was poured in by volunteers over 2020 and then re-setting in Oct/Nov 2020 to get a season completed in '21.
Obviously i'm not advocating clubs and leagues become completely financially negliglent to complete the season but surely there is some middle ground that can wrap up the season asap and at least have some form of 'closure' or 'accomplishment' for puttng in the hard yards in 2021 and to do something we all love.

I'm assuming all player fees are paid for a full season and i'm not stating that their should be any refunds or discounts but at the same time wouldn't these fees be filtering up to the clubs and the leagues and assisting financially in times like these?
What are playing fees these days? $350 or so per season?

Just my opinion, but the hope of getting crowds in for finals is almost diminished but the clubs and leagues need to find a way to try and get the season done & dusted.
A top 6 structure to me would be acceptable where teams 5 & 6 who may feel had a compromised draw at least get a crack and there's only one bye in this type of finals compared to a 5 team finals which is usually fair and preferable but there's too many byes for the top team.

What would it cost for the league to host 4 weeks of finals for top 6 with no crowds?
No players get paid in finals so it would hopefully be a pretty lean operation for clubs in the 4 week block.

It's safe to say that both clubs would want to be in Division 1 because they earned it via premiership rather than this suggestion

2 years of no footy and no finals they have had no chance to earn it.

If NFNL says finals are too expensive what are they doing?
Get the teams on a paddock with umpires, have clubs provide boundary umps, officials etc if you have to.
Just get it done

To be fair it would be expensive. 3 divisions of men's seniors, reserves and u 19s finals series. Plus 3 divisions of women's finals series. I think it adds up to around 60 odd games. Thats pretty expensive just to pay for field and goal umpires

Only way is if everyone virtually does there jobs for virtually nothing.

Plenty of ways.

Honesty if paying umpires was the only thing holding back finals it would get done.

No crowds? Have every game up for live streaming and sell the sponsorship rights to that game. Plenty of companies would jump at it. Especially knowing what clubs were playing you could seriously target your advertising.

Finals confirmed as long as we get away before September 18 there will be at least a Gf. Crowds or not

Good to see a roadmap to give players, coaches, officials and local fans an idea and some hope of getting back out there soon and also something to look forward to. Great decision to try and complete a season seen as though we are this deep into the season. Hopefully we see local footy back within the next couple of weeks.
