NFNL Div 2 2021

Good to see a roadmap to give players, coaches, officials and local fans an idea and some hope of getting back out there soon and also something to look forward to. Great decision to try and complete a season seen as though we are this deep into the season. Hopefully we see local footy back within the next couple of weeks.
Hope and having something to look forward to are the big ones

August 14 Start (Traditional Top 5 Finals Series)
August 14:
Round 17
August 21: Round 18
August 28-29: Qualifying and Elimination Finals
September 4-5: Semi Finals
September 11: Preliminary Final
September 19: Grand Final

Think we can put a line through this scenario with 20 new cases today

I wouldn't be surprised if we lose the August 21 restart scenario as well given that clubs wouldn't have been even able to train together before games resuming

If we can start on Aug 28th, would teams be happy with this? If games went to form and ladder position it would mean ladder would be Banyule, Lower, Thomo, Eltham, Diamo and St Marys

Elination finals would be Thomastown vs St Marys (2 weeks in a row) and Eltham vs Diamond Creek

September 19: Grand Final

September 4 Start (Knockout Top 6 Finals Series)
September 4-5:

September 11-12: Preliminary Finals

Another 22 cases today. Would have to be September 4 return at this rate

Will be lucky to get going at all now.
You would think after new two weeks being added to lockdown that will get us to September 4 but would be unlikely to be able to start on that weekend without any training for 6 weeks

Ah previously you were allowed to meet one other. Either way you can keep fit enough to play a game.

General fitness and match fitness are two different things. Just because you can partner up with one other player doesn't mean you have had the physical match pressure from a game. But if you are prepared for players to continually doing soft tissue injuries due to no proper match simulation or training well the league will be made to look like fools. The health and safety of players is more important.

If the restrictions are there for community sport like it was after the previous few lockdowns then they won't be starting the Saturday after this lockdown completes if it completes at all

Come on. People call up randoms and past players to fill in for the reserves all the time.

End of the day you can easily stay fit Enough for 2 games.

Not allowed to take kids to the park for the next 2 weeks. Struggle to see how footy will be played just 2 days later. Season looks finished.
I’m not super confident but restrictions are tight enough to get a result. We will know by the Monday if games will be happening. Hopefully it works.

Forget about top 6 fixture
Go with a top four series
There is no guarantee we won’t all be back in lockdown again after finals start.
Play a top four knock out comp and just get it done
Doesn’t matter if it’s unfair it just needs to get done
6th place team shouldn’t be playing finals anyway IMO

IMG_4535.JPG not sure if any of you guys saw this?

states that weather it was this weekend or the weekend in 3 to 4 weeks one way or another there going to play a grand final to finish the season

sounds dumb
but guess that’s the way it’s going to be regardless

Yep was out there but in the end it all depends upon if community sport is allowed to be played

What is with these comments all over this board?? Almost as if a lot of you want the season over and no finals played and a result! Of course it’s annoying/frustrating etc. but geez, if we can get a few games of local footy in, especially a few finals games that doesn’t impact on clubs having to pay match payments or anything, then why wouldn’t we give that every chance???

Yes you can lose match fitness but doesn’t stop guys doing training In the meantime, especially if guys are working from home or in lockdown and even then, so what if there not as fit as they normally would be?? Everyone is in the same boat!
Yes guys could get a soft tissue injury but what’s the big deal with that? Just because they haven’t played and aren’t match fit it doesn’t heighten the risk of breaking a leg or something that will effect there day to day life so I don’t see the big deal if we happen to see a couple of extra hamstrings!! Teams have been told they will be playing so the onus is on the individuals to keep fit.
Ask any player who’s team has qualified for finals and 95% of them want to play… so as a supporter or someone who doesn’t play, I don’t know why any of you are saying “can’t play now, season must be scrapped”… i just don’t get those comments!
Not having a go, just genuinely confused about those thoughts! I for one really hope we can at least get a couple of weeks of finals in and a premiership winner, if covid keeps going and it doesn’t eventuate then so be it, but I’m happy the league is going to give it every chance!

Unfortunately community sport is done for the year - Very sad for the players, volunteers and supporters
I'm staying optimistic, it would be nice if the season could finish with a GF. CV has already started releasing cricket fixtures which see a first Saturday in October start so fingers crossed footy can finish

If we are in lockdown or football cannot commence until after September 19th is the NFL proposal to promote the top 2 teams in Div 2 to Div 1??

Can't see any teams being promoted from Div 2 into Div 1 and Div 3 into Div 2.

Let's just hope we can start again in 2022, get a full season in and have promotion/relegation at end of 2022 year.

Some clubs will struggle if they have to keep playing year after year without promotion. It’s not sustainable to either the clubs or the players.
