I overheard Eltham people saying that they weren’t ready to go up. Funny how these comments are never made pre-game. Also neutrals saying Banyule will badly struggle in Div 1 next year. Always negative comments towards the Div 2 premiers.🤷🏻‍♂️
😂 Banyule will be fine. Looked good yesterday and will once again attract talent as they have at all stages of their build.

Eltham have 2x 19s, reserves that are simply far too good for this level and a senior side that went 17-1 and played on 28 points yesterday … if that’s not ready I don’t know what is.

Agreed.

History tells you it’s a tough gig first year after promotion, but you would take it every day of the week compared to staying down. The granny tells us Eltham are not ready…only can judge that in hindsight after yesterday. Bears will be fine next season, bit of recruiting and they will be in the mix to stay up more than 1 year.

Banyule will have to recruit 8-10 players to be competitive. What they dished up this year and yesterday will see them in a relegation battle if they dont. But I'm sure they will have some money to spend.

I call b/s on that statement I seriously don’t know how your brain works if you have one 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Obviously a big jump and I’m sure Banyule aren’t sitting there expecting to not recruit anyone.

Its always tough first year up.

Poor from the NFNL we still don’t have salary cap answers for next year while teams are trying to re-sign/recruit players.

Any rumours of who might coach Eltham?

Pretty attractive job you’d imagine.

I dunno if Bugden applied or was poached directly for Thomastown but from all reports would have been a great get for Panther.

Thomastown has done well from speaking to a few ex players from Whittlesea who love him. Will be a big change from Bandera.

He applied, was about 8 applications. He has been around the club for about three years with son and future son inlaw playing at the club.
His speech the other night when he was announced was very impressive.

What he said was 100% accurate

I’d be surprised if Banyule does better than the bottom 3. But they are a switched on club and dare say will have some good recruits in mind. Whittlesea, Hursty, Macleod will all be in that zone.

It’ll be a slow build but no reason they can’t be a D1 premier in the next 10 years.

Congratulations to Banyule. Began in comp in 2015 with a lot of teething issues and it took a change of committee to put the club in the right direction. To take 8 years (6 without COVID) to get from Div 3 to Div 1 is amazing.

In relation to yesterday, the theory of Eltham playing 1 ruckman against the best ruck in the comp was ridiculous. Totally changed the game at selection.

Finally, the nauseating talk of Eltham’s youth is exaggerated greatly, Banyule yesterday were younger than Eltham.

Eltham are where we were in 2019, they are going to be a powerhouse in 2023.

We can’t wait to play in Div 1 and believe we are a lot better prepared (on and off the field) than where we were in 2019

Agreed. Bears are in a great position. May need to recruit a couple to help stay out relegation battle but are in a healthy position long term to be a Div 1 club. Under 19’s won the Div 2 flag convincingly and had 2 under 18’s sides playing in YJFL this year, one made the grand final. With plenty of talented youngsters developing in first Div footy they will do very well if they can maintain the balance between playing youth and recruiting experienced top end talent.

But as he said, they need to recruit well to get better and even then will most likely be in the bottom 4

Just home from celebrating a wonderful Bears victory yesterday and promotion to DIV 1 next year!!! A big 2 days!!!
Congratulations to the coaches who made the right call on Thursday night with selection and were vindicated with the ease in which the Grand Final was won yesterday - I don't want to sound arrogant but the bears were dominant all day and I never felt that Eltham was a winning chance after 1/4 time.
Eltham mucked up badly in my opinion - They selected the man dubbed the human iceberg - Byron - and for the second consecutive week he did nothing.
Too slow, to slow, to slow and looks so overweight & unfit (Must be able to play but I have not seen him take more than 2 marks in the 3 games that I have seen him play this year and his opponents just walk around him) in the meantime Williamson & 2 blonde big blokes from Eltham dominate the reserves game??? Hyde must see something in him that no one else can
Congratulations to the bears under 19 side for winning the under 19 premiership in DIV 2, hopefully there is some senior footballers coming out of that team - Like DIV 2 vs DIV 1 senior football there is a huge difference between the standard of DIV 1 & DIV 2 at under 19 level. Heidelberg, West Preston & Monty have some outrageous under 19 talent so I hope that the bears can play DIV 1 under 19's in the future because DIV 1 standard is 15 goals better than DIV 2 so we need to make up that ground.
A previous poster made the point that Eltham are a class above any other DIV 2 reserve side and that players would be poached - I watched the entire reserves game between Eltham & Diamond Creek and can say with confidence that not one player from either side would make the senior team at Banyule or obviously Eltham - The best players on the ground were Williamson, Tagleri and a young blonde bloke for Eltham up forward and their ruckman - I reckon williamson should have played for Eltham & Byron is not good enough for their reserves team but what do I care.
The Eltham reserves side is fit and OK talent wise but they are not that great it is just that every other second DIV 2 reserves side is full of old blokes helping the club out or younger blokes not good enough for seniors.
COVID and clubs that do not field under 19 sides means that reserves teams are crap
Anyho Banyule in DIV 1 now so I wont be posting in this forum too much longer so good luck to all your teams

Biggest takeaway for me from Saturday’s game was the difference in the forward lines.
Banyule top 4 goal kickers for the season all hit the scoreboard: Langford 5 (69 for season) Kayrooz 1, could have been 3-4 (50 goals for season) Turner 1 (29 goals for season) and Dani 2 (23 for season)

For Eltham only Owen kicked a goal from their top 4 with 3 (63 for season).

For those that have said Eltham not ready for division 1, I only heard that after the event. If they had of won I am sure the narrative would have been we are ready to go, dominant reserves team, 2 under 19’s teams, we are going to be a force and rightly belong in Division 1. I am sure it would have been a very disappointed hierarchy at Eltham on Saturday night.

They now have to try and re-group to go again in 2023, new coach who will bring different ideas so a period of adjustment there. Division 2 in 2023 will again be very competitive, Diamond Creek will improve, Thomastown will improve with Bugden coaching, Watsonia and St Marys will look to take the next step in 2023.

Definitely no guarantees for Eltham in 2023

whether or not they think they arent quite ready for divvy 1 they would still be shattered they lost.

I only watched snippets but who was Eltham's big forward in the long sleeves - he was shocking and never looked like getting near the ball and useless when the ball hit the ground.

Eltham maybe it's time to go back to 3rd division to win one. Give them a chance or maybe take Kinglakes possy in AFL Outer East. They must be devastated.

Heard a rumour, and could be a complete rumour but I heard Ramsay may be returning to Panther place.

This could be absolutely false and he goes around again at Monty but who knows.
You have given a couple of Monty boys a heart attack - They are not on this forum so I give you the feedback
"He is signed for next year at Monty"

It's embarrassing that they're still going with the narrative that they're a young side or not ready. Pretty sure only dropping 3 games for the year indicate they are.

I don't think that's the case at all regarding Eltham. Were simply beaten by a better team on the day.

To say they aren't ready to go up doesn't make much sense, and seems fabricated.

As for the talk on Banyule and next season, i think they will be very comfortable in D1. I have them finishing 6th to 8th at this stage, depending upon recruits etc.

They’ve been saying they are young for 2 decades now.

Need to chase quality division 1 level recruits not D3 ones.

Northcote will be an interesting one. Do we expect them to be good?
