NFNL Div 2 discussion 2023

From what I have heard, Meale & Naismith have retired. Blake is out with an ACL from mid last year.

Unfortunately the club has dug it's own grave, that let the playjng group have too much of a say 18 months ago & now vast majority of those players have moved on anyway.

The affliation with Research isn't supplying a huge number of players, Research has struggled to field a full under 17s side for years. For a club who has never had huge money to throw, it is going to be a long long road back unless someone comes in as the saviour.
Dont know why they just didn't start there own juniors years ago. Sure, Research has been great to them (until now?) since the alignment started but why not create a junior club. Monty junior club is huge so plenty of players in the are for two clubs side by side.

It can't be easy to establish a junior club when you're surrounded by long running, and large, junior clubs already in your area.

Plus, it's a bit of 20:20 hindsight, Lower have competed in div 1 at times, and generally at upper end of div 2, for most of the past 25 years - so they got something right.

Unfortunately community and junior footy everywhere are struggling atm, some clubs more than others

Research going back years ago was a huge club & the last 10-15 years of Lowers reasonable success was built of that back of it however Research is such an older demographic now & is a smaller suburb compared to Eltham etc. Therefore there aren't the younger families in the area to play for Research.

Agree with this. Next to no young families in Research now. Good luck with a median house price of $1.6m.

Lower Plenty is a great club. They have punched above their weight for a long long time. Lets hope this is just a blip in an otherwise successful era for them.

The junior club is still very strong isn't it?

But yes the demographics of areas change. Look at Lalor 3 junior sides to zero.

yeah totally agree

My response was aimed at the suggestion that LP should have created their own juniors

Junior club is still strong. Not the biggest but never has been.

Lower have done extremely well in consolidating the 19’s and I think have 40 plus on that list.

From what I’ve seen their training numbers are solid and had near 60 on track Wednesday inc one who will be more than handy if he chooses to have a run.

Have recruited a couple of guys, couple more have come back to play and young guys are extremely keen to have a crack.

I think it’s a great opportunity for some of those young blokes to step out of the shadows and thrive.

Might just surprise!

EF616482-B756-4555-836D-D38381C4BFDE.jpeg The irony. How many messages did lower send to past players last year begging them to fill in?

Lower aren’t getting 60 Buz. 4 sides which including the research under 17s who were training and had less than 40 according to my sources.

Hurstbridge, similar area, have next to no juniors anymore. If the money dries up, they'll be in big trouble

It's an older community there now. Quite a few clubs feeling the pinch for these reasons

Went and watched lower v templestowe today at rmit! Going off what I saw it’s going to be a very long year for lower! They only managed to kick one goal in a half and templestowe dominated possession. I understand it’s a praccy match but what they were producing was just horrible!

Is relegation on the cards? I think Epping still but the more I hear the closer it gets.
Bardens x 2, Duckworth, Keys, Paterson, Blake and Sleep. 7 of their top 10 players lost in one go, jeez they're gonna need Epping to be realllyyy shite this year to avoid going down.

How are PH possibly going to manage the points. They played on max points and the three guys from lower alone are 11 points.
10571z it will be tight, just had a look at there round 18 points from last year, Gorski and Ticknell both gone, that’s 6 points and they had 7 players that if they stay will also drop a point so 13 from that game.
Brings them back to 26 points but the squeeze could definitely be on if they have a full list to choose from

What are the ages of all these Panton Hill recruits? Is it true that they are all 30+?
If yes I think that they may have pi$$ed a lot of money up against the wall
