NFNL Div 2 discussion 2023

They're their own worst enemy. From what I watched last year, their best can match anyone, but when the chips are down they're very quick to start finger pointing and in fighting

1000% why i said 4th is about where there at.

One of the most talented lists here but always seem to stuff themselves over and there season can always go high up or low down

Will that change with Mario leaving will be the question.

Heard some good things about their coach, so maybe he can get them into line.

Can you blame them for finger pointing and carrying on on field when you have a coach like Mario in the box?

No issues with that! Just not ideal for viewing. Eltham chuck on a fabulous event, shame the weather doesn’t follow! Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as first predicted .
As long as their schnitzel rolls and potato cakes are hot, and their cans of froffs are cold, then I have no qualms

Panther with 41/46 points! Shows how quickly they add up with new recruits.

All 3 VFL players playing so look to have basically their best side in. Went a bit taller than I thought they would looking at the weather with Bongettii, Byron, Finbar, Evans, Goodwin and Merkle all playing.

Looking forward to seeing PH’s side.

Anyone know how Tom Keys is a 1 pointer? Did he play a few junior years at PH? Or did PH have an MOU with Hurstbridge? Either way good news for PH

Great to have footy back and division 2 shapes as a really even competition this year.

Ladder predictions

1. Eltham
2. Diamond Creek
3. Northcote Park
4. Thomastown
5. Panton Hill
6. St Mary’s
7. Watsonia
8. Sth Morang
9. Lower Plenty
10. Epping.

Top 4 are a bit in front of the pack, positions may change but I am confident with this top 4.

Position 5-9 is very interesting, can Panton Hill jump up with their new recruits, does Lower aplenty slide after exodus of senior players, how will Sth Morang go with the jump up into Division 2. After a month of footy we should have an idea.

Grand Finalists: Eltham and Northcote Park
Premier: Eltham
Relegated: Epping, like Whittlesea in division 1, another long year for the Epping faithful.

Eltham vs Panton Hill, a big crowd expected at Central Park with both teams taking on a new look.

Eltham under new coach Bongetti will look to take that extra step in 2023. Donaldson and Goodwin are great pick ups but it will be their youth of Owen, Ayres and Maley that they will want to see continued improvement.
For Panton Hill, they welcome a number of new players as well including Callaway, Rowe, Duckworth and Keys. Have they had enough time to gel with the Parks brothers, time will tell.
Great expectations about this game, Eltham by 23 points but think it will be an arm wrestle for most of the day.

Epping vs Thomastown. No line up for Epping as yet but it’s been documented that they will be looking to enjoy their footy on 2023. Lirosi back is great for Epping and the league as he is a quality player however I feel it’s going to another long year for Epping
Thomastown under new coach Bugden will look to continue to improve. Bugden is a proven well credantial coach who has achieved premiership success in the NFNL. Bradford and Mazzarella move across from Mernda and should fit in well.
Coulson, Lopiccolo (who was outstanding last year) Leonardis, Tang will look to have big 2023 season.

The bears to open their account with a 78 point win.

Enjoy the footy

Should be a cracker despite the potential conditions.

Could we see an upset? PH probably lacking the fire power up forward but with the conditions who knows. Their midfield should match up well to Panther and with a strong ruck division to combat Goodwin and Maley it should be a good battle. Keys and Conte will need a big day in the midfield.

Eltham look top heavy to me with the conditions as predicted, although Owen/McCormick/Bongo will be hard to handle. Ill probably eat my words and Eltham thrash them but going PH by 8 points In a thriller.

Epping vs Thomastown - Expecting an absolute thrashing. Only thing that’ll save Epping from 150+ is the weather.

Eltham to play on 39 points so still some room to move. Couple to come back in too.

No way you can discount Thomastown.

Some decent recruits, Miki will return and most importantly not having Mario as coach. They could easily challenge.
Where are all Mario’s mates sticking up for him now. Does anyone know if he is coaching at the moment? Surely any club that hires him has a death wish.

Ventured down to Eltham today and it was a great day - They do it well
The intention was to watch the first half of the game and then get over to see our slime mates but we never got there!
Mainly cause the BBQ and beer was really good but secondly cause we thought that there would be some blood shed in the second half!!
What a wierd game - Panton Hill came out in the first quarter with a strategy to be tough & rough - They targeted the Eltham ruckman in the first quarter when there was 4 or 5 on one bloke but when a hill bloke had to hunt the leather they were not to be seen. Number 8 for Panton Hill was really good at being 3rd or 4th in the tackle for a couple of cheapies every time during the first half and the Eltham bloke was clearly keen to catch up with him so we stayed after half time.
Dont know who coaches Panton Hill but they played a game of bravado that they could not match with football skills - Never gave his team a chance to win and kicking 5 goals for the game - 2 of which Eltham gave away with 50m penalties for undisciplined acts for a whole game is a reflection on whatever game plan that they have
Hopefully Panton Hill have another 4 or 5 good players that they can bring in because apart from Keys they just looked slow and unfit.
Hard to get a read on Eltham but not premiership favourites for mine

Fairly good synopsis
It was a strange game, quite scrappy.

Eltham were clearly the better side, not sure they really got out of second or third gear.

Their back 6 were absolutely sensational. Well set up behind the ball.

They did get sucked into the undisciplined stuff early though, will that be a target for other sides?

I guess you’d take a 9 goal win any day of the week even if it wasn’t the most visually appealing contest.

Looking forward to seeing how it all looks after the first few rounds of play.

Panton Hill had no ball movement at all today. Just held and kicked down the line everytime which the Eltham boys picked off with ease. Surely they would have something besides that as a gameplan. I think they switched it once for the game.

Eltham we’re hard to read on, definitely wasn’t there best game but still won with ease in the second half although i think fitness played a big part of that as panton looked gassed after quarter time.

Not sure how the 4 big man will work with Eltham they give up a lot of fitness and speed with playing the 4 talls. Bongetti didn’t get near it.

Will be interesting to see how they go against the other contenders in coming weeks to have a real gauge at where there at as a team.

Eltham were average and won easily exactly where you want to be in April

PH was under pressure all day and held up well.. for a half.

Their forward line was non existent. Really lacked any sort of target.

Panther cruised. Donaldson showed his class and Goodwin will be borderline impossible to handle when pushed forward

Fantastic day put on by eltham and well done to their players picking up the rubbish post game 👌 whoever is in charge of the weather forecast deserves to be sacked, was a fantastic day for football.

Yep good call - Panton Hill coached to be second to the ball and big and tough in the the contest as 3rd man in but the Eltham blokes after half time just ran around them at ease
One game in so Panton Hill must have players in reserve better than the bully boy crap they played today - They must have players out injured?

Where was there ruckman Maley today?
