3 out of 4 last B&F winners have left the Mernda Football Club. Can anyone explain why they struggle to retain the players who win the prestigious Sandy Brock award? Did the club notice this and gift the award to the Team Manager son in 2022?

It looks like with South Morang out of Div 3 alot of clubs are backing in their own lists to contend.
Cant really see any major list improvemenets anywhere. Seems like teams are recruiting depth players, some gun players from Kilmore (kinnear, Ryall, taylor egan?) Mernda (bradford, delaney, mozzerella?) and Turtles (rogers, keys?) on the move? Fitzroy have lost their top 3 bnf winners and replaced them with some talent so it will bring them back to where they were, West added a couple guys but we havent seen any star entries into division 3 this season apart from Morrison from Cragieburn. With Mernda's outs though this doesnt take Mernda to another level. Interesting to see if Kinglake or Laurimar have moves up their sleeves.

Very open year. Every team would be backing themselves to pinch a flag (besides the bottom 2)

There would be very little between the top four teams in each comp
Stude289 totally agree.
I would say that Powelltown who beat Kinglake in the grand final would have been the equal of Sth Morang and Laurimar.
Lots of eastern football talent in the Powelltown team.
The difference between the leagues is depth of talent in the 2’s
Kinglake losing C Horman and McNamara will hurt but still plenty of class in their team

What are your predictions right now Thunder? How do you see teams looking based on movements etc so far

bertybeetle i would have Laurimar as favourites. They have been quiet on the recruiting front but if they have the same list, then have them as pre-season favourites.
Old Eltham have recruited well but getting players from Epping who were a very poor Division 2 side not sure that helps them. It improves there depth but that’s about it.

Kilmore seem to have lost a few Ryall is a big loss and if Kinnear has gone as well then that hurts.

Hearing good numbers at West. They seem to have a bit of stability so can see them continuing to improve.

Fitzroy Stars losing their top 3 from B&F definitely hurts, but can’t be underestimated however their depth might be a concern.

Mernda seem to have lost a few, they generally talk themselves up but really continue to disappoint.

Kinglake have some quality and have a good home ground advantage. Losing C Horman and McNamara hurts but still have quality and will surprise.

Reservoir and Lalor I think will just be looking to be competitive.

So at this stage
Laurimar- finals lock
Kilmore, Old Eltham, Kinglake, Heidelberg West looking to play finals
Fitzroy Stars, reserve judgement until round 3
Mernda will look to improve
Reservoir and Lalor looking to win games against other clubs

Im assuming its a deliberate strategy by the club but Laurimar has zero news once again.

Heard quite a few juniors may be on the move due to some inner fighting, im assuming we will see once clearances open.
