If we pickup that great midfield prospect this season they could be ready to make that difference in 3-4 years.
If we recruit well over that time we could progressively improve still.
We are poor because most of our best prospects have played less than 50 games.

Ie bringing in the likes of Day, Redman, Wanganeen-Milera, Phillipou, Cox, Welsh and a top midfield prospect this year.

2023
Pick 1 - Reid
Free agent - Redman
Trade 2024 first to Hawks for Day and future second
GC second to Saints for NWM

2024
Pick (1-10) F/S - Tyler Welsh
Trade 2025 first to Saints for Phillipou
Free agent - Brennan Cox

2025 side

Michalanney ~ Murray ~ Worrell
Redman ~ Cox ~ Doedee
Dawson ~ Laird ~ Day
O'Brien ~ Rachele ~ Soligo
Pedlar ~ Thilthorpe ~ Phillipou
Rankine ~ Fogarty ~ Welsh
Reid ~ Berry ~ Taylor/Nankervis
Wanganeen-Milera
You’re a madman.

In all these years, has one of your scenarios come close to coming off?

I love his enthusiasm..

But its pie in the sky stuff..

One year he’s gonna fluke it and actually get it all right and we’ll instantly forget all the years he got it wrong and we’ll call him the draft/trade guru!..

You think we'll live that long?

Being a crows fan I have to be optimistic. Otherwise it would be very depressing.

Could Tyler be that big bodied mid that we need?

His Dad is "only" 188cm so (unless his Mum is a bit of a giantess), Tyler probably wont get over 200cm. It sounds like he's been playing as a forward/mid, so ending up as a mid/forward might be a possibility?

Speaking of needing big bodied mids, has anyone from the club ever said we need a big bodied mid specifically? Or is that mainly a Bigfooty view of things?
Hamish jokingly referenced it once in 21, saying that people had been calling for a big mid, and they picked Nankervis, but he was probably the skinniest on the list.

That rings a bell - hopefully it comes off. Pick someone showing midfield talent even if they're skinny as but have the height/frame to potentially fill into a strong frame.

AFC site now listing Luke as 191cm/85kg so he could be the one

I wonder if Tyler doesn't play League this year and we pony up the $5K if he would still be eligible to play the Nationals in 2024?

I know Ashcroft played some VFL for the Lions but not sure if that wasn't after the Nationals.

I've got a feeling the Eagles will likely play him at least one League game this year to scupper us though?
Yep would be

Club would surely let him go do that and be a kid

Youre dreaming if you think we are coming last and getting pick 1 for Reid…

Hawks have it already sewn up.

And unless he becomes a dominant gun mid this season.. which will be very difficult playing for the tanking Hawks.. Day isnt worth our first this year or next year.. both will probably top 5 picks..

Day is a good prospect.. but he’s still yet to prove anything and is currently worth a pick in the early teens at best..
Day is worth a pick between 6-10 in my eyes

Especially if he keeps proving himself in midfield

Or he becomes our “patrick cripps” 195cm big bodied mid!…

Hard to believe Cripps is taller than tex and is a fulltime midfielder..

So… What if Tyler doesnt grow past 190cm?… plenty of lads do all their growing height wise before 16 and dont grow anymore..

His dad isnt a 195-200cms.. he’s only 188cm..

Anyone know his mums height?..

Edit: dont worry.. he’s already way taller than his mum!..

190cm is a good height for a high forward that can run like he can

I reckon he will end up 192cm ish at least

Our experience over 100 games is limited to players over 200 games. The list profile is rubbish and won't be in the right zone for another 4 years (check the thread I started about it)
You can't say that around here, people don't want to hear we aren't a legitimate finals/flag threat any time soon

Oh it's in an even worse state then what your thread alluded too, because there is still going to be some cycling of players (i.e. I feel very confident that Taylor and Nankervis are two players who'll find their way into our core prospects this year). Seeing, it's not just experience, it's where that experience is. On the bright side, Dawson and Keays will get to 100 games in this campaign though we certainly should be after a 100+ game lad in free agency.

That said, we've been tanking for 3 years, seeing tanking is subtle, it's not about going out of your way to lose, just putting the list where even your best isn't good enough. We have the list composition that has that scarring.

For the life of me I can't understand why we are playing Nankervis in defence in the SANFL.
We have Butts, Murray, Doedee, Worrell, Max M, Smith and even Kean and Borlase that all going to get picked in any of the defensive roles before Nank. So why?
Surely wing and/or on ball would be better suited?
I'd love to see him spend 6 weeks playing on ball. What could he offer? Let's find out.

Playing Nankervis and Cook in the backlines in the sanfl trials this year seems stupid, it's nearly as dumb as the Fogarty to defence when they tried that as well.
Too often we plays guys in positions that don't suit their strengths

So why is Sheezel being played as a DEF by Clarko ?

Young players still have a lot of development ....one way is to teach, by playing in alternate positions

Which means you should be asking why they're doing it. There were good reasons for doing it with Fog. I'm assuming they have good reasons for doing it with Nank & Cook as well.

I reacon its probably to get a bit of defensive mindset added to their games.

Both are very attacking players.. club probably thinks “lets put them both down in defense for a couple of insignificant trial games and let them experience having to defend.. see if they can add some more strings to their bows”..

Hasnt looked like its hurt either of them.. in fact Cook has looked like a natural off half back.. he was close to best on ground in that Glenelg trial…
