There were 2 incidents one much more glaring then the other and really when he matures he'd handle it differently.
Have noticed more and more players approaching contests with caution. Threat of being reported means more players don't commit as hard if they believe they will be second to the ball. Not sure if those incidents were partially due to that.

Have to say that the vision of him going in with a less than satisfactory effort wasn't the best, but he'd probably be the first to admit that. Let's hope that's a 1 off and next time he cracks in a little harder.
You've got to be better than that at AFL level.

Problem lot of other Players where not play AFL Level Footy last night

Nick was likely two steps ahead thinking of the next couple of outcomes. He does not shirk contests.

Looks more on Slow Mo that the Ball was Bubbled and that caught him off guard

Let's not forget - he's 20 years old and has played less than 30 AFL games.
By the time he's played 100, he'll be tearing teams apart with his bare hands.

Kid has 38 and 2 goals. Think you're being a tad harsh on the kid.
Love how saying he's gonna be a player who could avg 35 touches and kick 30-40 goals in a season is being too harsh.

For everyone saying stop picking out a couple of incidents when he's racking up incredible numbers, it's not a one off game, and he's never been a player who's gone particularly hard at 50/50 contests right from the start. If pointing out a fact is offensive to supporters who want to act like he's flawless that's your problem. His next evolution is to be a much better hardball winner, and that doesn't look like it's started yet. People who think pointing out flaws in players means you think they are shit are annoying AF. No one's saying that.

For NBA fans, this reminds me of people who said Ben Simmons didn't shoot because he was just an intelligent player who knew it was a bad play. It's a weak argument. Nick can have his flaws, it's completely fine, there's no need to apologise for everything he does that isn't 100% perfect.

No that’s not harsh, it’s almost completely unrealistic given nobody has achieved that before.

Nick is so bloody good that his mistakes stand out.
The contest in question last night to me looked like he was looking for someone to tap the ball out to, but it bobbled and he missed it.
As for mids to team him with, Ed Allan could definitely be a special one.
Ed was apparently pretty good in the VFL game, even though we got flogged.
Hopefully he'll debut soon.

I reckon he has such great peripheral vision that he saw Wilmot coming and thought he was going to split Nick up the middle.

When he stopped you can see him looking at Willmot.

Possibly thinking I don't want to get Injured here

Yeah nah he doesn't shirk contests.
Either avoiding to get reported or thinking ahead where the ball will be.
Seen no evidence of him avoiding contact because he is scared.

Ball just slipped out of his hands.

Yeah but he definitely could have gone back after it and he saw the opposition player and decided against it. It wasn’t a good look but he has so many positives that it won’t affect him long term. He’ll no doubt see the replay of it and be less likely to let it happen again.

It also looks worse on his part in slo mo.
These guys are moving at phenomenal speed.

He’s never been a manic, dive head first into a pack, type player and that’s ok. We have our share of those. He just needs to go when it’s his turn. But again, I’m not concerned. The confidence will come long term.

He's the last bloke we should be worried about right now.
10 out of ten in every game thus far. In my eyes.
Leading the Brownlow betting.
Well he was last week.

I don’t think he shirked the contest at all tbh. I think he was expecting to bring the ball up with him and was sort of left in limbo when he fumbled it. If he’d picked it up cleanly he’d have dished it off or tried to spin out of the tackle attempt. People are just making a big deal over it because it’s so rare for him to make mistakes like that. Oppo supporters in particular are desperate to bring him down a notch or two so they’ll cling to dumb shit like this as if it’s a big deal.
