The Zach Merrett reference has to be the put down of the year. There have been a few sly and not so subtle digs about ND in the media, and if I look at the massive Collingwood chip on my shoulder, I’d be tempted to think they are aimed at bursting our happy little bubble. But early days for kid.

What are the Idiots in the Media Knocking Nick For??

I'm of similar opinion to some previous posters that grouping Horne-Fracis in the same conversation as Daics and Rachele's performances to date is bemusing!

Horne-Fracis hasn't produced a stand out performance against AFL opposition unlike Daics against the Cats and Eagles (4 coaches votes) or Rachele against Dockers (9 coaches votes) and Bombers (3 coaches votes). Rachele has been quite outstanding!

Horne-Fracis has still been solid, 23 against Sydney and averaging 4 clearances, NM supporters should be pleased with that. The knock on Horne-Fracis pre-draft was his ability to impact the game for four quarters something he was working on in the SANFL.

Rachele has been brilliant, but like all small forwards can have games where the footy does not go near him through no fault of his own.

That being said, the Crows have been surprisingly okay this year. Might continue to get chances

Nick Daicos reminds me aesthetically of Ablett Jnr and Treloar. That uncanny ability to gather possessions at will and like Ablett Jnr you want the ball in Nicks hands at every opportunity. I can see in two or three pre-seasons Nick permanently centre, centre forward of ball gathering 30+ possessions and averaging a goal plus.

The issues with Horne Francis are the same ones I brought up pre-draft.

Principally his ability to link up in chains of play away from contested situations and his fairly average ball use by foot.

He’s going to be a great first possession clearance player, but they are still fair limitations .

Current? Current is tricky. I reckon once he's a full-time midfielder he'll be very reminiscent of GAJ. He will be a more damaging goal-kicker than Pendlebury, and Pendlebury is quite a lot bigger.
GAJ is the best comparison I can see and I really hope it comes true. GAJ had a similar knack of being very hard to tackle with an inate sense of how to accumulate and find the goals. I don't see many similarities with Merrett other than good kicking

They both have Collingwood royalty in their blood?

Agreed David King and Leigh “I’m still not over 2010” Montagna have probably been the worst culprits. Kingy showing his bias constantly having Nick the 3rd best rated player of this crop saying, it’s easy being a half back racking up easy touches but at the same time praising Jack Bowey from Melbourne, who plays the same role Nick does. And Montagna back in round 2 after both Daicos and Rachele had fantastic debuts, could not get out fast enough that he said rachele would kick 5 on Nick whilst nick racks up easy touches which did not even happen lol.

The media simply can't stand anything good to happen for Collingwood and will invent any bs to pretend things are worse than ever.

Hopeless bias but then again - after over half a century of supporting our boys I have never seen it any different - they just have more avenues for their spite and discontent now.

Was on track to win the Brownlow in 2011 as well, until the Freo thugs went after him and he retaliated, because the umps weren't doing anything about it. Lyon got his players reved up before the game by publicly declaring that Daisy was the best player in the comp.
Hah this was Lyon gamesmanship that has gone down as truth. Daisy got 23 career Brownlow votes. He was never in Brownlow contention in his career. He did have 8 up until the Saints match when Lyon stirred the pot and career best form . But he was already well behind the leaders. This was years before Lyon went to Freo.

By way of seeing who was in contention at that point Swanny and Pendles were already on 13 votes each. Swanny went on to get another 21 votes that season and Pendles 11 more. Daisy got another 2.

"The next Zach Merrett"? What bullshit! By the time Nick is done he'll be ranked up there with guys like Matthews, Cable, Gaz Jnr, Judd, Skilton as one of the greatest midfielders ever.
No offence to Zach, but he's nowhere near that.

I reckon you’re underrating Merrett. IMO he’s a gun player.

I like your optimism, in regards to Nicks potential, but it’s a fair comparison. In fact I made it very early last year.

Yes. The events got a bit jumbled in my mind. But Daisy was All Australian that year.
