No offence but isnt this a good time to get another youngster in the mix rather then relying on someone already in your starting 18. Mattner left Crows to get away from defence and become more of a midfielder. Id say this is Tim Schmidts time to shine and not Marty Mattner. A player whose not in your best 18 and is more accustomed to playing that position

What are you co-dependent? Has the deep pessimism of following a mob of pretenders who die in the arse by Round 4 created a morbid interest in failure? Malceski is a good player but not a champion. Yes he will be missed but he will be more than replaced by Kenneally who is a better and stronger player off the half back line and with the addition of Mattner nothing will be lost in the wash up. Thanks for the condolences and tears but save them for the genuine tragedies and failures such as Essendon.
Were within a crack of the finals until Round 21 last season. What were you saying again? Nice one idiot. Kennelly is a good player whilst Mattner is just average. There is a reason why he left Adelaide. Time to introduce kids into the line up or the Swans will be wallowing away in the bottom 8 for numerous years. Start the rebuild now and you wont suffer as much.

I honestly dont know what Paul Roos is going to do. The Swans ready have 2 players on the long term injury list (Malceski and Playfair) so he should use this unfortunately situation to blood some new players. Craig Bird will play in the starting 22 alot this year but as for the other young players your guess is as good as mine. The NAB Cup game against Hawthorn proved that the Swans do have some young talented player but wheather pr not Paul Roos uses them is a completely different question.

We have already blooded that player to step up. Cheese Barlow will run off the half back line with Mattner and Kenneally. Mattner is a very good player. I would rate his hardness, pace and endurance with that of Milceski. Milceski is better in footskills. No doubt the rebuilding program when it commences will take a lead from the hugely succesful blueprint at Hot Air Hill. After all your mob has been rebuilding since 2002. Sheeds played you off a break for years. Every pre-season Sheeds pumped up the tyres and the mugs fell for it. Last year only the delusional (most of whom are Esendon posters on this site) rated Esendon a serious finals contender. The glaring weaknesses in heart and limb were painfully obvious to the world at large by Round 4.

You've blooded one player. Good for you. We played finals in 02, 03 ,04 and made the second week at least in each. Rebuild started in 04, but not as many kids were thrown in as we'd hope. How were we not a serious finals contender? We were in with a chance until the 2nd last round of the season. Do you bother to think when you post. The boys showed heart last year except the last game against Richmond. Much more life in the Bombers squad then the Swans.

There is a difference between blooding a young player and butchering him by throwing him to the wolves before they are physically and mentally ready. Sheeds butchered more careers than he made. Teddy Richards?

Butchered? The kid couldnt prosper at the Bombers but did well at the Swans. Good for him. The difference between the Swans and other teams is that they have barely blooded any kids at all. Rebuild should start this year as a flag isnt going to come with the ageing side you have. Got the one flag which is decent. Time for new players to get a chance. O lOughlin should be gone soon I reckon. Just saw him struggling last year. Why Roos doesnt put kids into the line up is beyond me but the time is ripe for them to get game time during the regular season.

The idea is to put your best 22 on the ground, simple as that!

believe what you like, but you're fooling yourself on two counts
1) our squad is still ahead of yours in terms of depth of talent
if you don't see that, just look at the list of players you had last year that you don't have this year ... j hird tops that list, so you've already lost way more than we have, and we were ahead of you last year
2) your finals chances last year were torpedoed by your own board when you "sacked" sheedy, talk about a kick in the guts to team morale
after that you were "in finals contention" on sufferance, only essendon fans (and even then, only the most one-eyed) would've seriously rated you a contender as late as round 21

So you would "rebuild" the season following back to back Grand Final appearances. Rebuild what FFS?? And one of the best players on the ground, who almost won us the game in the last quarter in 2006 was a fine young player discarded by your club that was apparently "rebuilding" with youth. Grand finals are no place for timid tiny tots which explains why your shambolic mob will always be rebuilding for them rather than rather than playing in them. Anyway chin up through the long Knight of disappointment and failure

I'm absolutely SHATTERED.

The only positive I can take away from the game is that hopefully another get kids will get to make his mark.
