Nick Naitanui's debut!

Not much to add, just wanted to join in the NickNat cumfiesta really.

Haven't anticipated a debut like his since a kid from Ohio debuted for his hometown team. I watched him very closely every time he was near the contest, and I wasn't disappointed. I mean, he blew up after like 5 minutes but thats kinda expected.

No one has really emphasized his handballing off both sides. Really solid, even creative at times. Also seems very team-oreintated with the handoffs (Lynchy!) and shepherds.

It's clear, at least to me, that he is going to be the face of the franchise. Is that the general consensus? or am I getting far too ahead of myself?

His handballing is definately underatedly creative, it was a feature in last yrs U18 champs.

Meanwhile Ben Cousins has revealed he gave the Eagles new number nine Nick Naitanui some words of advice during his eye-catching debut against the Tigers - whilst joining the almost unanimous praise for the Swan Districts' ruckman's entrance into the AFL.

"In my old jumper, you just had to take a step back and say 'Gee, he is going to be a good player,'" Cousins said.

"At one ruck contest in the third quarter as we were setting up I said to him 'Be careful with that jumper because it can end in tears.'"

Love it.

Gents, meant to post this on Sat night but win and drinks, turned ugly and basically this is the 1st night I can see straight.

Nic Nat. Once a generation player. No doubt - only injury will restrict his development.

Forget all the careful shit you have written about tackling, chasing etc.

His agility, quickness of mind, leap and overall size make him a unique package in the AFL.

The best thing I have seen in the AFL as a raw overall package.

Glad to say i saw his first game, will be able to tell my 1 year old kid in years to come.

After one game I suggest he is better than half the Ruckmen in the competition. I,m excited and I think football in general should be excited.
Anyone care to name those he is better than?

Well Seaby definitely :p

I was at the game and gee we looked poor.

Masten worked hard but kicked worse the Naitanui:confused:

He is going to be a gun, especially in the ruck.

Not sure on his shot on goal but will be a great pack mark when resting in the forward line.

Creative handball was great and he seemed to know where the goals were and more importantly our followers.

Cant wait to see more of him, cheers Steve

Safe to say, all of them!:D Yes, including Cox!

just on his kicking, was reading that prospectus book and they said through junior footy his kicking efficiency ranked as elite for someone over 195cm, not bad ay.

Does anyone else think this so called problem might have been exaggerated simply from shitty osting on bigfooty without any real knowledge at all.

I seem to notice these days everyone spouts the "is an athlete, not much of a footballer" bullshit, which is just what they've read from continuous posting from people with no idea

Every player has things they need to work on, but players that get drafted early or are one of the best in the league, tend to get their flaws pointed out more often.

Early in Franklin's career- more a HF flanker, can't take a contested mark, shocking kick at goal, won't be a superstar. Still not a great kick at goal, but is a genuine star.

Judd- Can't mark, lost his pace, won't get back to his early form. All false.

Gibbs- Buttery softness, can't win the hard ball, hilariously nicknamed Bryce Squibbs. He is playing very good footy, and will be a star.

Early Gary Ablett- Solid half forward/forward pocket, won't ever be a true midfield star, only recognised because of his name. Now one of the best in the game.

It happens when people don't actually watch enough footy, and get all their ideas from other people who don't watch enough footy/are complete morons. And people not giving any time to younger players to develop into the stars that could be.

Personally I blame Judd for all of this. :D He started his career so well and so quickly that new draftees have so much expectation on them now to come in and start dominating, when most need years before they will really settle in and play consistent footy.

Great post Quinz.

Obviously no one knows how NN is going to turn out yet, but from what I've seen his kicking woes are embellished by the majority on here, which will only be worsened by one his kicks the other night being a total scrubber (it was funny though!)

But if reading BF has taught me anything, it's that (1) players aren't capable of improvement, and (2) you only need one game to judge exactly how a debutant is gonna turn out.

The thing that stood out to me was his ability to take the ball away from the centre clearance. He chose to dish the ball off rather quickly, but once his confidence is up, I can see him tucking the ball under his wing and running off with it. He'll take some stopping.

Absolutely, sort of like Goodes or even Staker those two times. Just too big and cant be stopped through a stoppage.

Hopefully Morabito will do the same thing for the Eagles though rushing into the middle when starting on the wing and use his size to storm through and sprint away using his excellent pace.
Would be exciting to see.

Mods can probably just delete those two accounts and replace it with this image in every thread to save time.
