Infact the onfield umpires are at fault as well because they should have had the balls to step in and said its clear Bairstow thought it was the end of the over , do you really want to uphold the appeal. Old style umpires would have done so. The umps these days are robots

The over is not over because Bairstow wasn’t concentrating and thought it was. It is irrelevant. The ball was still in play according to the laws of the game. The third umpire ruled correctly - as, in my view, he did the day before to disallow the Starc catch when players on the field and some commentators and lots of fans thought they knew the rules and really didn’t.

I agree that lots of the gotcha other scenarios are not the same, although the6 do highlight the hypocrisy of the English comments. This is just about what happened here and what the rules say.
