Past Coach NMFC Senior Coach - David Noble has parted ways with NMFC

Coaches of the past.

We've had four in a row. 6 if you count back to Schimma. Its easy to forget Pagan was a first time coach but maybe it doesn't count cos he'd coached plenty in that group to u19s success.
How many "experienced" coaches have won premierships? This century theres been Matthews and Malthouse. Before that, Blight at Adelaide, Malthouse at Eagles, Matthews again. Its not really the proven road.

Just watched the media conference in full. Some thoughts ...

David Noble handed himself very well. In an unimaginably tough situation, he showed enormous dignity and composure. Could have torn the place down on his way out ... but he didn't. He even spoke about "we" rather than "the club". He lost no friends with that exit. Probably went up in the estimation of most fair minded people. 9/10

Sonja Hood impressed me today. She handled the media with a deft touch. A press conference like today's could easily get out of control. She handled it beautifully. Answered the questions she wanted to. Deflected the ones she didn't want to answer. I thought she projected strength, confidence and a sense of calm. 10/10

Ben Amarfio was fine. But the less he spoke the better. He has a slight tendency to say too much, not that he did but you felt at times like he was about to. Again, credit to Sonja here for setting the tone of the conference and for keeping answers honest but also tight and to the point. 7/10

On an incredibly tough day for the club, well done to all three.

Couldn't give two shits whether people think she is smug, not smug, she treated some of those smug mug journalists with genuine contempt and she bloody well should, they've been running hatchet jobs on our club for years. I hope she smugs the shit out of them for years, **** them. She was great, they all were considering the topic.

There's no enjoyment for me hearing this. The variables around who is responsible for the football situation etc has been debated and is for another discussion.

There's a reason a lot of us in spite of poor on-field results still haven't wanted to speak ill of David Noble - and that's because he presents as a man of high integrity with a strong background who took it on for the right reasons.

Unfortunately football (and life) is littered with examples of people that weren't able to shine under certain circumstances. Doesn't stop them one iota succeeding in other capacities though - just look at Neil Balme.

Hope David isn't doing it too tough.
Quality post.

The results, less face it have been awful for a long while, even prior to Noble's time and we all know he was presented with a shit show upon arrival post-Shaw. This year has plummeted to new depths and he was the collateral damage that is the nature of this brutal industry.

Unfortunately it hasn't worked out, and he'll be a massive loss for the club in terms of the experience, character and integrity he provides.

After a brief stint up North with his family and depending on where his relationship is with the club I'd love him back in another role.
Maybe even Armarfio's......

Yeah good point. Its probably got something to do with how many experienced coaches get second gigs as opposed to non experienced ones.

Look at Voss for example. If he gets a flag with the Blues then he's an experienced coach who didn't have success. That hasn't happened before very often has it? Blight is the only one of those you mentioned to have done it. I can't think of anyone else. Walls maybe?

If the major reason for Noble's sacking was his lack of ability to manage people then how wasn't this not picked up in the interview stage. Did we bypass the full process because Paul Roos anointed him?

Some background conversations with former colleagues on his management skills as part of the background checks should have raised some red flags.

At that level of appointment, to not pick up this as an issue was poor. I can accept Noble not working out because his game plan is shit but not because he is a lunatic managing people. Those who were part of that interview process all need to go too.

Agreed

I'll be a bit pi$$ed with a few players if we jag a win over the depleted Tigers and some blokes have their " best " game of the year;
. defending like their lives depended on it
. sticking tackles
. chasing hard
. sheparding
. running both ways

Say more about them than Noble.

Thanks David, gentleman till the end.
He's back! The man who gets my dated DVFL jokes and RBT references!

Spot on. New coach can reinvigorate a bit of energy, but the things you listed above are non negotiables at the professional level.

Not even a year ago so many people, including supporters of rival clubs on here (make of that what you will) said they’d have our list over Hawthorn, Essendon and (from memory) Collingwood.
This time last year I believe we defeated Carlton.

Clarkson would make an impact immediately.

And of course Caro mentions Tasmania.

Guys… Don’t underestimate how full of sh!t the panelists on Footy Classified can actually be.
And don’t think some in the media have ever, EVER got our interests at heart. Nor do they want us to succeed.
Why would they? Have they ever before? Especially Caro.

And for those reasons, they wouldn’t want Clarkson to even consider us.

They say it’s outta the question. He said he would coach us. But that’s not on the agenda for some so they will not entertain it. With our list and the respect he would command, he’d absolutely make an impact and we’d absolutely be winning some games.

They are wrong. Don’t be fooled. They literally speak to keep their mouths moving. Absolute rubbish show that I refuse to watch anymore.

(I do like Lloyd though, always have).
Couldn't have said it better. It is easily the worst footy show on TV ATM.

I think first up for us is stability, a premiership challenge isn't an option currently. So a senior coach should shut the media hounds up.

I stay away from it - particularly, because we are at such a low ebb right now. However, its unabashed “raison d’être” has always been to stir controversy. On that marker alone, it’s been a raging success. FC is routinely “discussed” on here on a minute to minute basis. We appear to be completely under its spell.

unless of course an experienced coach doesn't turn our fortunes around. If Clarkson has the same success Pagan had when he went to Carlton then every man and his cat will want us shipped off to Tassie.

some people seem to be completely under its spell. Some off us have more self control and chose to ignore it.

In all seriousness I wish David Noble well in future, no doubt he tried his hardest. He just clearly wasn't up to it

But at the same time I am very happy with the news that we are courageous to say 'enough is enough'.

The results speak for themselves and it was time for him to leave the mighty NMFC.

Of course, just as we cannot afford to hide behind another rookie listed coach. And I'd like to see the players argue with someone with decent coaching credentials.

Between you and me we haven't a bad list, not near as bad as some make out. Just don't tell the AFL

You will notice my serious post actually. I am not a fan and have heard some bad stuff in how he treated the players.

Surely some people can actually be happy and excited with the news, not everything has to be so personal.
I call bullsh*t. You have a long track record of posting crap and then back pedalling when you get called out on it.

Feel free to delete your original post and I'll do the same with the one where I quoted it.

Sad day. Feel for Nobes. As well handled as it could be by all parties. Nobes a great footy person. It hasn't worked out which is a shame.
And I'm sure a lot of the changes Nobes has made will bear fruit the next few years like the strength and conditioning and medical staff turning over.
The recruiters exit whilst not great optics, might well be a positive freshen up long term in terms of drafting.

I personally think Sonja handled it as well as she could have in her first year in her first big media conference.
Compare that with say Peggy O'Neal if she had to do a presser sacking Hardwick in her first year. Not an easy gig that's for sure.
I think she looked a bit sad that it's got to that point. Sometimes those media savvy presidents like Kochy and JB can hang themselves by elaborating too much and then the media hang them for what they said. Thought she was very matter of fact.
Anyway hope Nobes finds another gig in footy and we get an experienced coach to take us further.
