Coaches of the past.

You should really own that if it's what you think rather than use weasel words and apply it to hypothetical others.
Let me be more clear. Sonja has a demeanour that can give the impression she is smug. I know her and don't find her that way at all. Media wise she has a strong presence (a media face if you like) and that can be misunderstood. I thought she was strong and did well. On a hiding to nothing tbh fronting the media today.

When people say the coach has lost the players, there is an assumption that he has lost ALL of the players which is almost never the case. In any club and any list at any time, you will find the very best coach has a couple of players who feel aggrieved at decisions. Every coach loses players. Otherwise there'd be no trading. Likewise, at poorly performing clubs, and here in Noble's case, there are players who were absolutely devastated at the news today. There was mention of tears and I take that on face value that it happened. And of course, it's going to be the case as there are some players who owe their career rejuvenation to Noble, some owe their debuts to Noble, some have grieved the loss of family members with Noble's fatherly support, and some who would now be worrying about their next contracts.

Great advertisement for the next coach coming in… yeah the players thought the coach was a bit tough on them so we ditched the coach.

So what does the coach sound like he must’ve been terrible, watches goodbye presser..

Um yeah..
Sounds like Brendan McCartney at the dogs. I wish Noble worked. Tail can’t wag the dog

Really sad how it's played out.

The writing was on the wall, but I think he's had a really rough go of it over his tenure.

Handballed a list that cut 1/4 of it's senior team, left holding Ben Buckley's handgrenade and the comments about challenging within 3 yrs (what the **** made him ever think that was a good idea to say), constant injuries and unavoidable illness to key players, and a recruiting and development team that have been less than stellar.

Thanks for your time David, really did seem like one of the good guys in football.

I really hope it works out better for you in your future roles.

Classy exit from David Noble - handled himself very well, with integrity. In complete contrast to Brad Scott's petulant exit.

Only very few succeed at senior coaching. It didn't work but doesn't mean he hasn't been, and won't be great again, in other footy roles.
l wish someone in the media had asked him "if another role at North Melbourne was available in administation would you look at applying for it"

One thing I have learned in my career in media relations is that a certain type of bloke - usually older, almost always white, and with delusions about their own professional success and abilities - will ALWAYS find, inventing if required, reasons to criticise a successful woman in a position of power when they do media.

I've worked for women who've had to do media in the toughest situations there are. Going on 730 to explain complex issues under immense political pressure, doing sit downs with aggressive and unpleasant journos/outlets like the Herald Sun and Neil Mitchell who have already made their mind up and simply want to use the opportunity to attack.

And there's always the whinging blokes who find some reason to criticise them. Then their male opposite number, or Minister or whatever, will go out and do a bumbling and embarassing doorstep and the same blokes are like "Oh, that was statesman like!".

Sonja's obviously a mate, and I thought she was as good as could be expected in a no win situation like that presser. Didn't make the situation worse, which is a win in that scenario.

If you think she gives the impression of "smugness", that says a great deal more about you than her.

Agree with all but the bolded. Recruiting is much improved, and so is development.

I said I understand how some see that. I think she did a good job in what is a very tough gig. As tough as she will probably get. Nothing to do with her gender ffs. had some very interesting feedback from friends, positive and negative - males and fems. Thats a fact. I don't judge them. repeat for you - I think Sonja did well in a very tough environment. I have worked for men and women and never really noticed any difference. Leaders are leaders.

He's a decent guy and will be successful in future roles. It is sad but the list is better than it's shown for 95% of games this year. He hasn't been able to get the best out of them (for whatever reasons) and as he said, the buck stops with him.

I'm glad they didn't as it then gets thrown at Ben and Sonja to make an empty gesture that he would be welcomed back when in reality, the next coach needs clean air and David needs time to grieve and then move on.

This is the time for your president, board and CEO to step up it's been an awful few years from them in terms of recruitment and list management however this is a defining point in your club's history. As a dogs fan 2014 looked a complete disaster we had players up and leave and the club looked to be in disarray. The same was said about our list that is said about yours "not good enough, have no star players, old players are close to retirement" etc. Anyway we appoint Bevo and he turns it around. I think North's list is not as bad as it looks LDU played his best game on the weekend if he can keep that level his going to be a star, McKay looks a great key defender, Larkey can tear a game apart when his on form, you really need to hold on to JHF and pray that Aaron Hall can get his body right, that's 5 players that could really form a decent spine to work with. If a coach can come in who has experience in motivating players and recent game day experience (unlike Nobes) I could see this group looking a lot better.

Does your coach have to be a recent experienced match day coach? Look preferably yes but I don't think it's the be all and end all, if you can get someone who's worked under a Bevo, Clarko, Scott kind of coach who has coached say a VFL team recently with success I don't think that's a bad thing but yeah if you can get a Clarko, Cameron etc type that would be better.

I said I understand how some see that.

This is a pretty common PR tactic. Put something negative out there but detach yourself from it personally. So you're making sure it's known but absolving yourself of any personal responsibility to it.
