It may be and that's fair enough.

But why do people want Tassie to fail in their bid and backing AFL (a disgrace) instead?

I don't get it.
That may only be in regard to the arrogance of the Premier and his recent comments, essentially putting a gun to the head of the AFL.

I don't know how TAS would go as an AFL team, likely lack support like Bendigo did in the VFL due to being a made up club. So the next question is, do you have a club team elevated or have a state team?

BTW this is the NMFC TAS THREAD.

I don't moderate the place mate and all Tassie discussion I've been told to put in here previously as was getting messy.

Arrogance of the Premier? Are you kidding?

The AFL is the most arrogant business that ever existed. Finally taking a firm stand is not arrogance, it should be applauded.

AFL licences are worth money: https://www.afl.com.au/news/99008/sa-clubs-buy-licences-from-sanfl-for-more-than-18m

West Coast paid $4m for their licence and that was 35 years ago. $20million is probably pretty cheap.

A significant licence fee might be a good idea - particularly if that licence fee is then immediately gifted to the team itself as a seed fund. This would be much better than the most recent approach where the 2 new "teams" (ie. AFL run sides) basically are a constant monetary drain on the competition as a whole. It forces the proposed team to have significant and real upfront independent funding.

Not sure he should be judged until everything is said and done, and we know the result. If he gets the AFL to set a date for a Tasmanian team coming in then much kudos are deserved. If off the back of an independent review the league finds that they're worse off with a Tasmanian team and shuts down the idea for a decade, then I'm not sure how great of an endeavour the whole thing was for him, especially if he then doubles down on shitcanning league funding in the state. Fair bit of grey area in between those two scenarios of course, but you get the point.
