DEBT-RIDDEN Port Adelaide ....... Duncanson said that Port, which last night announced a new major sponsorship agreement with Westpac and now boasts superior training facilities to most AFL clubs .....

She is confusing us with the Cows whose training facilities are named the Westpac Centre under a sponsorship deal with Westpac.

As a Victorhoea centric journo she probably can't tell the difference between Port Adelaide and Adelaide.

Normally id put this down to a mistake but she was at the club last week and was given a tour of the facilities, so maybe they told her something and she has jumped the gun.

well she could mean 1) we have signed Westpac as a major sponsor and she blew our announcement 2) she thought signing WATPAC last week as a Premier Partner was actually Westpac 3) WATPAC are increasing their newly signed sponsorship. I am thinking 2 but Westpac would be great financial backing.

Caro was defintely in town as a guest of Port last week.

I wonder if she has let something slip (lets hope!) or if she has truly confused Westpac / WATPAC.

Interesting...

When you put the pieces together, i still think its too big of mistake for EVEN her to make. ......
Ignoring the WATPAC/Westpac debate why have no other media picked up on this announcement that the club made last night? It was an "announcement" not an exclusive leak to Wilson. None of the local media have reported it and the club hasn't even posted this announcement on the website.

I suspect Caro may have dreamt the whole thing.

I haven't heard anything on this at all at work either,

And all the execs know I'm a pretty big PAFC fan so I would expect to have at least heard something.

Huge if true though.

i am as well....
while i would love it if a major bank became our major sponsor i just cant see it

agree - I can't see the same bank that has their name on the cows training facility deciding to be a major sponsor for us.

Happy to be proven wrong though.

Is MyATM staying on board. They have a five year deal dont they?

If so, wouldnt Westpac conflict with their business? Both are in the business of ATMS. For Westpac it is a small part of the business for MYATM it is their sole business.

Be very strange if true.

Even weirder if she is wrong given she was at the club last week and spoke face to face with Duncanson and Haysman.

You're confusing Westpac the Bank with Watpac the contracting and property business.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility. In Scotland, Rangers and Celtic have had mutual sponsorship agreements (ntl, Carling, Tennents) where the same organisation is the main kit sponsor for both clubs. This is done, despite both clubs despising each other, to gain a lucrative advantage in the city (wider Scotland) as it does not set one group of fans against another.

Its possible that a sponsor could view sponsoring both SA footy clubs in some form as a good opportunity, without alienating fans from the other.

Isn't Caro suggesting Westpac, the bank, are the new joint major sponsor? Not Watpak.

If it is Watpak it makes sense and is another example of poor journalism.
