The thing that pleased me about the forward structure yesterday was that it showed that Marshall does indeed have decent forward craft. Some of his leads were perfection.

The thing is that we need him to show that he can do it with Dixon in the side. To do that, we have to play in a way that makes it possible for him to do so. That there is the biggest hurdle.
Todd is so clever in his marking as early in the procedure he computes in his mind the trajectory of the incoming ball and places his body to protect the flight of it into his arms. It’s a real craft. His kicking was sublime. On his day he is the real forward package. Keep it up Toddy and don’t let Dixon stuff it up (as he surely will, unfortunately !

3/5 of his goals were from wide, long shots. Usually this year he has missed those, today he kicked then.

He had 5 marks inside 50 compared to 3.2 average this year. So it was better than average but he was playing against North.

I think you are seeing ghosts with this Dixon thing.

They were all longer shots, but there were only 2, both in the third quarter, that were wider out. Both of them were better angles than he is used to getting because of the distance out.

DBJ is ranked No# 1for pressure forwards in the Comp and he actually kicks goals.
I thought he was excellent against the Kangaroos with outstanding pressure and a couple of goals that could've been more.

The Perminator is quietly having a very good second year as a medium forward. Very good.

Marshall regularly finds space in the pocket, even with Dixon in the team. The difference yesterday was that he kicked straight.

Also let's not forget it was North who have conceded 100+ points in every game this year.
Just did some sums - North is on track to concede at least 2700 points this season: diabolical!!!

In the overall context of the game a 59 point win is a good result, but I thought norf were more than competitive in the first qtr, and may have even been a tad unlucky not to have been closer at qtr time.

If the score had been closer at the end of the first stanza it would have made zero difference to the result, but these bog ordinary starts by Port where too many players aren't switched on early in games has cost the team against better oppo before, and unfortunately it will again.

Surely there can't have been 5,000 there today
There wasn't...

What an embarrassment. North went hunting for $$$ to sell their home games to Tasmania and all they've done is destroy their own credibility and made the trek to Hobart a soul destroying occasion for teams that play there.

And I'll be fecked what the Tasmanian government owned Spirit of Tasmania is getting out of the multi million dollar deal to have them play there. It sure ain't getting tourist $$ in return.

I didn't realise it yesterday. I have been a supporter of Marshall's for some time. There have been a few games this year where his effort has seemed sub-par and in which he seemed to be playing bereft of confidence. In those games, we saw little of his forward craft.

What I was saying is that yesterday it was obvious and showed that he has not lost it (or it hadn't been coached out of him). It also shows the benefit of playing to his strength, which is not low-percentage leads to the pockets.
And playing on a sub standard defender

Let’s see what toddy can deliver against a afl standard defender and defence

He was taking marks in much better positions because the structure allowed him to lead there and the mids honoured his work. That led to the straight kicking.

I get that North is not much chop. However, it showed to me that his apparent deficiencies this year are structural, not inherent in him.
Todd's set shots below from 'easier' positions.2 from a pocket, 2 from 50m on an angle. Only one could be said to be easier than the others and that was an uncontested mark out the back not a lead. The same positions he has been marking and missing from season.

Some of you guys are so, so desperate to make Charlie the evil in Todd's AFL progression. No matter how much you repeat the mantra, there just aint any evidence to support it.

Todd put on a goalkicking clinic yesterday. Lets hope that is the corner turned for him because our forward line could surely use it.

I care, because our coach is an absolute loser with the worst body language I’ve ever seen. Hands in pockets, laughing after losses. Hypocrite.
Look, it worked, Jase has taken it on board and gone next level this year . That’s a positive. Can’t have it both ways.

It was the coaches who told him.

His quotes in the article were interesting. Sounds like he took it on board and it although it may have sounded harsh it was actually some constructive criticism that helped him develop.

I have said similar things to people I manage at work. If done correctly, it often results in positive outcomes. Often the person doesn’t know that’s how their body language is perceived.
You’re right, if it’s done constructively that’s good, especially if the body language was a bit to do with shyness and a maybe lack of confidence.

He would be great on the wing and a challeng to man up, our own Blicavs
I’m a huge advocate of tall wings (Marshall would be great for example), but I can’t see it with Finlayson as he doesn’t move well enough, very one dimensional and no fluidity.

Worth a try though.

a coach who sits on the bench with his hands in his pockets, with all the intensity of a pensioner wondering when his bus is coming.

Surely he's taking the pi55, still if a bloke's incompetent you want him to be lazy. Does less damage that way.

Looking forward to his stooge Caro giving the turd another polish at the first opportunity.

As sprinkles is clearly not doing gameday coaching anymore my worry is how different is Carr going to be.

There was an article in Code Sport during the week.

Burgoyne was told his body language makes him look disinterested. It was never an attitude or effort thing, just how it looked externally.
This strikes me as potentially a coaching group that is culturally insensitive and doesn't understand cultural differences around body language and eye contact etc.

Which given previous club divisions doesn't surprise me.

That is not the impression I got when I read the article.

Would it shock you to know that over his entire career Charlie averages MORE goals against North than Todd? 1.8 vs 1.4? Or that Charlie has kicked 7 against them in 2015?

Just as well games against North don't count :p

You’re using stats when Dixon didn’t play for port. His best for port against the Roos is 2 goals. He does not average 1.8 goals against the kangaroos for port.

4,606 of the attendance figure must have been out of shot.

I actually think that it is as likely as it is unlikely.

A lot of the Victorian football bullies, who think they run the game, like to make comments, but he is a 19 year old lad, give him a chance to make his own decisions.

If WC can build a solid team around him before he hits feee agency, I’m tipping he will stay, as I’m not sure any club would have the trade collateral to suit WC before then.

Remember they turned down multiple first rounders over multiple years for an unproven talent.
Time will tell I guess. But if he doesn’t extend come end of season or next, and starts getting home sick. You just know the Vic clubs will start snooping around like thieves in the night. That’s if they haven’t started already.
We all know how the JHF saga went down :)
