Finlayson adds absolutely nothing to the team.
I’d take McEntee over him any day of the week.
Todd is so clever in his marking as early in the procedure he computes in his mind the trajectory of the incoming ball and places his body to protect the flight of it into his arms. It’s a real craft. His kicking was sublime. On his day he is the real forward package. Keep it up Toddy and don’t let Dixon stuff it up (as he surely will, unfortunately !The thing that pleased me about the forward structure yesterday was that it showed that Marshall does indeed have decent forward craft. Some of his leads were perfection.
The thing is that we need him to show that he can do it with Dixon in the side. To do that, we have to play in a way that makes it possible for him to do so. That there is the biggest hurdle.
3/5 of his goals were from wide, long shots. Usually this year he has missed those, today he kicked then.
He had 5 marks inside 50 compared to 3.2 average this year. So it was better than average but he was playing against North.
I think you are seeing ghosts with this Dixon thing.
I thought he was excellent against the Kangaroos with outstanding pressure and a couple of goals that could've been more.DBJ is ranked No# 1for pressure forwards in the Comp and he actually kicks goals.
Just did some sums - North is on track to concede at least 2700 points this season: diabolical!!!Marshall regularly finds space in the pocket, even with Dixon in the team. The difference yesterday was that he kicked straight.
Also let's not forget it was North who have conceded 100+ points in every game this year.
Giants in 2012 the last team to concede 2700 in a season.Just did some sums - North is on track to concede at least 2700 points this season: diabolical!!!
BZT actually took some marks
Main board poster momentBZT actually took some marks
There wasn't...Surely there can't have been 5,000 there today
And playing on a sub standard defenderI didn't realise it yesterday. I have been a supporter of Marshall's for some time. There have been a few games this year where his effort has seemed sub-par and in which he seemed to be playing bereft of confidence. In those games, we saw little of his forward craft.
What I was saying is that yesterday it was obvious and showed that he has not lost it (or it hadn't been coached out of him). It also shows the benefit of playing to his strength, which is not low-percentage leads to the pockets.
Todd's set shots below from 'easier' positions.2 from a pocket, 2 from 50m on an angle. Only one could be said to be easier than the others and that was an uncontested mark out the back not a lead. The same positions he has been marking and missing from season. He was taking marks in much better positions because the structure allowed him to lead there and the mids honoured his work. That led to the straight kicking.
I get that North is not much chop. However, it showed to me that his apparent deficiencies this year are structural, not inherent in him.
Look, it worked, Jase has taken it on board and gone next level this year . That’s a positive. Can’t have it both ways.I care, because our coach is an absolute loser with the worst body language I’ve ever seen. Hands in pockets, laughing after losses. Hypocrite.
You’re right, if it’s done constructively that’s good, especially if the body language was a bit to do with shyness and a maybe lack of confidence. It was the coaches who told him.
His quotes in the article were interesting. Sounds like he took it on board and it although it may have sounded harsh it was actually some constructive criticism that helped him develop.
I have said similar things to people I manage at work. If done correctly, it often results in positive outcomes. Often the person doesn’t know that’s how their body language is perceived.
I’m a huge advocate of tall wings (Marshall would be great for example), but I can’t see it with Finlayson as he doesn’t move well enough, very one dimensional and no fluidity. He would be great on the wing and a challeng to man up, our own Blicavs
a coach who sits on the bench with his hands in his pockets, with all the intensity of a pensioner wondering when his bus is coming.
This strikes me as potentially a coaching group that is culturally insensitive and doesn't understand cultural differences around body language and eye contact etc. There was an article in Code Sport during the week.
Burgoyne was told his body language makes him look disinterested. It was never an attitude or effort thing, just how it looked externally.
That is not the impression I got when I read the article. This strikes me as potentially a coaching group that is culturally insensitive and doesn't understand cultural differences around body language and eye contact etc.
Which given previous club divisions doesn't surprise me.

Would it shock you to know that over his entire career Charlie averages MORE goals against North than Todd? 1.8 vs 1.4? Or that Charlie has kicked 7 against them in 2015?
Just as well games against North don't count

Some of you guys are so, so desperate to make Charlie the evil in Todd's AFL progression. No matter how much you repeat the mantra, there just aint any evidence to support it.
Todd put on a goalkicking clinic yesterday. Lets hope that is the corner turned for him because our forward line could surely use it.

Time will tell I guess. But if he doesn’t extend come end of season or next, and starts getting home sick. You just know the Vic clubs will start snooping around like thieves in the night. That’s if they haven’t started already.I actually think that it is as likely as it is unlikely.
A lot of the Victorian football bullies, who think they run the game, like to make comments, but he is a 19 year old lad, give him a chance to make his own decisions.
If WC can build a solid team around him before he hits feee agency, I’m tipping he will stay, as I’m not sure any club would have the trade collateral to suit WC before then.
Remember they turned down multiple first rounders over multiple years for an unproven talent.
