Re: O'Keefe to Essendon or Carlton in PSD...

Apparently Port have stated that if he is available in the PSD at our pick, we will take him

Port have no hope of getting him.

He will simply re-sign with Sydney if any of the interstaters try get in his way.

QUESTION

Can he nominate for the national draft as well as the pre-season?

That would the clubs with early picks to choose between a kid or him. That might allow him to drop through to the hawks.

Well that would be pointless!

They might as well have given us their first pick (16) to guarantee getting him then.

Don't know why everyone seems to think he's going to re-sign with Sydney. Paul Roos had said in that article the other day how Ryan should be hoping that Carlton get talking, because Essendon and Port Adelaide had indicated they'd be interested in taking him in the PSD. Roos tends to deliberately make things obvious without saying them, and he's done it again in this case - O'Keefe won't be re-signed.

Sydney can sign him to a 3 or possibly 4 year deal ,heavily back ended to allow him to earn what he feels he's worth.(REPORTEDLY $600K)
O'loughlin(2009) & Hall(2009,possibly 2010)retirees will allow this, as well as him going on to our Veterans list(2010).
Not saying this WILL happen but Roos(THE SPIN MASTER)& Andrew Ireland will weave their spin & convince him to stay.Alternatively they could convince him to become the highest paid player in the Canberra League(well it's closer to Melbourne than Perth)

he said he wanted to go to a team a) in melbourne and b) a premiership threat, since when are wce and port a premiership threat, hed be better off staying in sydney for a year and evaluating where he is at next year

if he cant get to where he wants (MELB) wonder if he cares where else he goes. if the eagles picked him up would have plenty of cash and would b able to earn the $600,000+ he wants. if he stays in sydney hes surrounded by team mates that know he was trying to bail on them. anywhere seems better than sydney

well sorry mr tedeski.

i was led to believe swans were wanting 16 plus a player, whereas hawks were offering 34 plus two players. i didn't realise 16 on it's own was what they were wanting.

It will be interesting to see if the Swans leave the original contract terms that he verbally agreed to and then declined on the table - $1.6m over 3 years was the figure I believe that was stated but could be wrong on this. I could see the Swans reducing this offer now that a number of his options have been reduced and I wouldn't blame them. I can see him staying in Sydney now and earning less than what he agreed to at the Brownlow.

I was starting to be scared I was the only one thinking it. Sydney would probably be the least likely place for him to play next year. It's just a question of who's willing to take him in the pre-season draft considering if they aren't victorian and good then he might have a sulk and want to leave again.

I doubt he'll walk, especially when PSD picks 2, 3 & 4 are all non-victorian. He'll be a swan next year.

Remind me again why Melbourne won't take him at pick 1 in the PSD?

$$$$$?

Also he could nominate for the draft, couldn't see anyone using a first rounder on him other than possibly Hawthorn. But how would this work regarding salary, does he have any bargaining power by entering the draft? Can he nominate an amount??

If I was West Coast I'd be making some enquiries with O'Keefe's management and as a minimum getting Woosha and our recruiting manager to sit down and have a chat. Yes we had a poor 2008 but with O'Keefe forward along with our senior players back from injury and the quality of the young guns we could be that team that bolts out of the bottom 4 to top 4 next year.

O'Keefe would provide an injection of confidence that could pay big dividends. We have the $$$$ and an opportunity for a serious push for a flag in the next 2-3 years.

Obviously Hawthorn can still get O'Keefe

Since ROK apparently isn't worth pick 16, he will still be available when Hawthorn pick is up, right? :thumbsu:

I just can't imagine he would shaft the Swans by going into the PSD. Although he was obvioulsy looking to further his career in Melbourne I haven't heard anything that would suggest his relationship with Sydney has broken down. I'll be shocked if he doesn't re-sign with them shortly.
