No team will allow us to get both Gibbo and Shaun Burgoyne!

Nup, re read it and my post addresses your OP far better than your tanty throwing one above - premiership winning former AA ruckman, premiership winning defender/wingman, premiership winning half forward flanker/mid who has kicked 159 goals, former No 4 draft pick and a former Brisbane 'Rookie of the Year'.

Not just rubbish as you describe and ultimately 4 of those players have played 67 of a possible 92 games in a side that has been beaten twice. But for King getting suspended for 4 games it would be even better.

And, you are wrong - so get over yourself.

HaHa You make me laugh!

Farren Ray what did the bulldogs give up for him hmmm not much. If you ask bulldogs recruitment I am sure they would pick someone else with that draft pick.

Who else was there charlie gardiner yeah that was a win, Colm Begly yeah what a star, King servicable but def past his prime. sean dempster hasnt played for a while.

The only one there is schneider you would say had a big impact.

It's the players around these guys that make the team. Even zack dawson looks good and we all no he is no bloody good

Still not getting it are you....Which one of these players compares to Shaun please let me know.....

I am beginning to hope more and more that this trade doesn't happen.

He is 27 next month. That means he will probably begin slowing down much more after another season or two.

Being 27 means he is about the same age as Bateman. Having Bateman and Burgoyne retire at the same time in the future could kill us. Wouldn't you prefer a speedy midfielder from the draft to grow under Bateman and eventually replace him in the years to come?

Port Adelaide could be pushing for Pick 9 and Thorp, or even more. Who knows what Thorp could be.

On the other hand - Burgoyne is a superstar, and everybody's bodys are different so who knows how many good years he has left in him.

I'm against giving up Pick 9 for Burgoyne for now though. I don't see how we could get him without giving up Pick 9 either, so no Burgoyne for me.

Would we trade a sewell to get shaun...no...and will port adelaide trade shaun for pick 9 and thorpe hell no....this trade wont happen...not for us...

Foolish post.

If Sewell walked out, and wanted to go to Port Adelaide, we would have to take the best offer. So do Port Adelaide with Burgoyne.

I'm sure at the end of trade week, Burgoyne will go to the club who made the best offer.

I totally agree but this is about other teams trading with us because of how good our list is.
Which is exactly why both gibson and burgoyne want to get onboard, they smell a dynasty and want to be part of it. I say we give up pick 9 in a heartbeat for burgoyne and throw in dowler or thorp, they will need another tall now that lade has retired. Im quietly confident port will be accomodating with whatever deal we come up with. They are just about in rebuild mode and any player which has some talent they will take.

All I have proven is, unlike yourself, I can construct a balanced argument - otherwise I wouldn't have thrown in Dempster, Gardiner & Begley.

St Kilda was a strong side, clubs traded with them and that made them stronger, you'd be an absolute fool to say otherwise - although this short discourse leads me to believe you will, thereby confirming another suspicion.

TWITA your posts are always both intelligent and amusing. It is not often that this combination occurs. I would say your my fav poster around here, keep up the good stuff :thumbsu::)

Who cares?! We don't need either of them. We need a key defender like Matt Maguire or even Brent Staker. Make it happen, Professor Pelchen.

hahaha ur JOKING yeah?

man... these guys are not QUALITY KPP players!!!

gibbo is better then these guys! why would u want to recruit mediocre players. I was thinking about Maguire earlier!!! but... his lost so much of his agility.... he would struggle

Ahhh, you meant "nuts and bolts" then.
Or "rivets" maybe. Possibly "spot welds".

You definitely didn't mean "glue" though, mate... and if you did you're gonna need a better mechanic.

Raff I agree with your idea; give up pick 9 in a heartbeat for SB - but I don't understand your second last sentence.

You say that you are quietly confident that port will be accomodating with whatever deal we come up with. If that is the case, why the hell would we throw in THORP / DOWLER as well????

As I see it port have 2 choices:
a) they either trade SB for something, and I can't see it being better than Pick 9; or
b) he walks out and they get nothing...

It pains me to say (almost heresy really) but some time down the track either Buddy or Roughy is going to get an injury. I don't want to trade off both THORP & DOWLER when it isn't absolutely necessary and be left with a gun midfield and no back-up talls up front.

Anyone got anything further on this???

IMHO Thorp has no value as a trade to anyone, other than us. He has played 2 games in three years, and doesn't do much at VFL level at all. For us, we have invested 3 years and he is worth another year to see if he can get over injuries. I wouldn't be flouting (sp) him around as a trade for two reasons.

1. He aint worth enought to other teams
2. If we say "yeah but he was pick 6" then teams can say, "So what your saying is that this pick 9 that you are offering us might not turn out much good hey....."

We don't need to remind clubs that pick 9 doesn't guarantee them a top player. Just let them believe it does.

and for what its worth, I think Thorp will make it, with us.

Very well put Bards. We are the only ones that can lose by trading THORP: We couldn't get much for him and we would be potentially trading a gun - a gun who could conceivably cause our defenders hell down the track, furthering our defender issues...

It just doesn't make sense to me.

If Lewis was traded it would be against his will [like Croad] and would be the begining of troubled times ahead for us as he is best mates with Buddy and Roughy. Regardless Lewis is a must in our team, the tougher the game the better Lewis is. No-one in our 'best 22' is tradeable, we must look at pick 9 and one of Thorp or Dowler to get the trade done.

I agree. If we are going to trade, I cn't see Pelchan starting the bidding at the top, and that's what would happen if Lewis was put on the table.

Lewis has grown every years, and still hasn't reached his peak.

Port: Good day to you sir *storms out*

"I SAID GOOD DAY!!"

I look at the youngsters on our list and think, "Hmm, maybe we can afford not to grab kids just this one year".
Pick 9 - Port for S Burgoyne
Pick 25 - North for J Gibson

We may only get 3 seasons out of them, but it addresses two areas of concern that I saw this year.
1 - outside midfield depth. without Ellis, Ladson and Young, Hawthorn relied on Shiels, Savage, Tuck, Kennedy, etc. And while I was impressed with their efforts, they lacked the accomplished skill and experience that the senior players brought to the team.
2 - Key Defender. With Croad & Gilham out for most the year, or at least not match fit, the youngsters had to step up. Schoenmakers and Milne (maybe Lisle) still need a few seasons to develop.

These two trades will allow the depth and time for our list to mature in these areas of concern. I do worry about Burgoynes knees, but sometimes you have to gamble, and Dew was a good one so let's go double or nothing.

:thumbsu: Agreed

What team wont allow us to get them both, The A Team, Team America, Young Talent Team???
Haha FMF made me laugh!:p

Anybody who believes a club will compromise it's own list and direction primarily to block another team has got rocks in their head.
Agree GM..
