What a dumb conclusion.

A large proportion of the Geelong area is marginal, so a fair whack of the redevelopment down there has been pork barrelling, plain and simple. How much money will governments shove at friggen Geelong?

The improvements to Whitten Oval are about 20 years late and what's more it's a miracle governments have finally stopped taking for granted and/or ignoring the west.
The difference is, the WO upgrades are for community benefit. KP is just so more Geelong flogs can go and watch their team eke out enough wins to make the finals each year playing shit sides down there.

The sooner they make them play all their home games there against everyone, the better and fairer it will be

Kardinia Park is managed by The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, Govt appointed, it administers the Park for its community and facilities on it, including the football stadium. It publishes its annual report, available online, page 8's worth the read. Geelong gets to play its games on it. We don't on the Western Oval, even though, at first glance, we will have received more than double what Geelong has. It's embarrassing to sneer at Geelong for Government moneys received. They get a better deal, smarter.

What ?
the Victorian government I think has contributed about $140 mil to Kardinia Park.
Or are you talking Federal contributions ?

Just for the last grand stand stage of KP dev the Vic Gov has tipped in $140M as sole financier. Vic Gov alone has contributed over $220M to KP dev over the years, plus Fed and local govs.

The $140 mil is for stage 5 still to come. That’s on top of the $19,5 mil in 2 tranches received earlier this century. I see that the Feds are tipping in another 15 mil to the Whitte Oval Redevelopment and we received $5 mil in 2019, that’s $64 mil so far and there are another 3 stages still to come. No stones. I hadn’t realised how much money governments are pouring into sporting facility development which benefit 2 clubs.

In a broader general Geelong sense, don't forget the absurd copy of the Melbourne convention and exhibition centre that they are building on the Geelong waterfront.

$250m at proposal stage which probably means about $350m by completion.

The chance of that convention space and adjoining hotel providing a return on investment before the building needs big maintenance dollars is 0.0%

Geelong DEFINITELY getting well looked after by Vic gov.

Plus $75M for KP stage 4. The public did get a rehab room out of that $75M though. Will be sure to check out next time I'm down that way.

On your figures, and assuming that the $140 mil is not included in the $220 mil, the State government contributes $435 mil. Docklands cost $460 mil. It's reasonable to expect the 5th stage to include a retractable roof.

My $220m+ was the $140m and the $75m. I gather it may be in excess of $250M from just the State Gov all in including the earlier stages, but my interest waned before crunching all the numbers.

Remarkable sums for the end product.

A roof? Maybe, but...

What would the $460m spent on the Docklands be, in real terms, today?

Total cost, including a roof, would probably be double the cost of building Docklands 20+ years ago.

But we couldn't get a bloody road to link the Eastern Freeway to the West because of the CBA. Cant we just get rid of these corrupt pricks already...all of them.

I've already made up my mind, don't confuse me with facts.

Lincoln McCarthy took a two bite mark that wasn’t paid, Naughton had a few of those not paid recently.
