Teams are so scared of Collingwood coming back in the 4th quarter, they change the whole way they play.

According to this board Bevo is a stubborn s**t, so we will change nothing when we play them and win by default.
We might finally get to learn what happens when an unstoppable force collides with an immovable object

I watched the second half, and in particular the fourth quarter, just bizarre umpiring, it was like the umpires were scared of the crowd. The commentators were confused on a number of decisions, but in particular a full hit in the face to Murphy, resulting in a broken nose and concussion, but paid as a free kick to the Crows. An over the shoulder in the goal square, not paid, some marks not paid, I think I only saw one free given to Collingwood.

I did give a wry grin at the comment, that only the Pies have to play interstate on a five day break:rolleyes:

Solid point. Bevos has it all planned out for us to beat the pies in the gf 🤣

They can thank Peter Daicos for having two boys, they can thank Hawthorn for letting go Mitchell for 41 and 50, Noble in the midseason draft and the likes of McCreery at 44. Smart recruiting and a bit of luck. Good on them, we'll down the list of my most hated clubs.

I think it should be pretty obvious that the change in coach is the most significant explanatory variable for why they became so good. More so than some pretty insignificant list changes (other than Nick Daicos, who really does make a big difference).

Does anyone think that if Collingwood still had Treloar rather than Mitchell that they'd be a worse team?

Of course, the coach has played an enormous part (like Bevo in 2015-16 did with us and particularly with the mindset to win close games all the time), but just saying they have managed to make some smart recruiting choices which have helped put all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Gave me flashes back to this which I remember watching as a kid. Pretty sure an ump was forced to come out and apologise publicly after this.

Love the commentary from Peter McKenna 'This is murder.'

Yeah but Vic biais

We were shit last year and we pantsed Collingwood.

The more they win, the worse it is for the small teams particularly in Victoria. They already dominate the football landscape and have done so at our expense for decades.

As you can tell I don't buy into the "AFL is better with a strong Collingwood side".

Big chance to move up the ladder quick if we take care of business over the next 3 weeks. GWS/Carlton/Adelaide with a lot of teams above and around us playing each other.

Remember this game well, and it is still the most diabolical umpiring I have seen. Literally changed the result of the game. It was even worse than what is in that clip. Adelaide received an equally outrageous free kick a minute before this footage begins. David Marshall goaled from it, to put the Crows to within a kick.

Some posters on here have at times labelled our players, or opponents, soft.
They should have seen Marshall play. The epitome of an 'outside' player. Played so wide at times, his direct opponent was actually someone sitting in the second row.

Robbo bringing his renowned expertise in international trademark law to your ears.

Tassie Devils it is then. I guess.

I guess this is what passes for an AFL discussion show these days.

Well played by the AFL with the Tasmanian franchise. They put up a reluctant, dubious front for years then said only if the state/federal governments fund a massive new enclosed stadium (and the Devil knows what else). Fed/state governments folded and the taxpayer not the wealthy AFL foots the bill.

It's certainly handy being the monopoly provider of the most popular sport in the country.

The question that interests me now is how will the AFL get the competition back to an even number? I'm pretty sure they'll want to achieve that.

Unlikely they'll shut an existing team down so I expect there will be another new team somewhere by 2030, making a nice round 20. Could be Canberra but there's no serious momentum or even push for it within Canberra. Anyway the Giants have just signed a 10 year extension to play games at Manuka (admittedly such a deal is no huge obstacle to the wheelers and dealers). It could be a third team in WA or SA. The trouble is if they give one to WA or SA then whichever of the two misses out will be demanding some sort of equality. So maybe Darwin? I lean slightly toward FNQ.

Third WA team makes sense.

Lots of $$$ over there and it’s a football state with a 2 mill plus cityand only 2 teams.

And a huge new stadium needing to be utilised.

Where would a third WA team even be based?
There's some speculation about Geraldton. 400km north of Perth with a brand new stadium. Sounds a bit far-fetched to me but there is plenty of talk about it.

No chance in hell, it’s basically a country town and would struggle to get crowds even as big as Ballarat does.

Joondalup. There’s already HBF stadium (which often hosts preseason derby’s), and they have the presence of a strong footy club already (West Perth Falcons) with adequate facilities that would only require an upgrade rather than full rebuild. Given Freo is south of river, and West Coast is central, it means a Joondalup side can represent the rapidly growing northern part of Perth.

The only other places I see as remotely possible would be Mandurah (1hr from Perth) or Bunbury (2hrs from Perth). Anywhere else outside Perth is too small, and Joondalup is still probably 95% likely to be the choice

Isn’t Devils too much like Demons? Why are Melbourne the Demons anyway? Can’t have the Tassie Tigers either.
To be fair we already have Eagles, Magpies, Hawks, plus Cats & Tigers.

Suns and Giants were pretty random names and they seem obsessed with the NBA, so every chance they go with something like Heat

Bring in 3 new teams over the next 15 to 20 years and make it a 22 team competition and play everyone once. To be truly national there should be teams in Darwin, Canberra and Cairns.
Two QLD teams is barely viable, no chance we could have 3. I also struggle to see NT ever getting one given the difficulties presented by weather and player retention. Canberra is probably the only one I ever see happening, and even that I’d consider a stretch. Think it’s more likely WA and SA get extra teams, then the final one potentially Canberra but would probably be the 22nd team
