My favourite part of Melbourne crashing out yet again in straight sets is thinking back to all of the arrogant "Dee-nasty" talk they were carrying on about after the 2021 grand final, even in interviews from the rooms immediately after the game. After 60 odd years of nothing they suddenly thought they were setup for a threepeat or more.

Watch Carlton supporters become arrogant again now out of some mentality that means you somehow just erase decades of being abysmal from your memory because you’re a ‘big club’

Don't concern yourself. Way OTT reaction for winning a semi-final. THAT (last night) my friend, was their grand final. Though I understand their joy at this from a club as tragic as they have been for the last umpteen years....

At least now they're...

There was a point in the season where Melbourne was practically begging someone (us at that stage) to take 4th off them. But everyone below them being crap let them hold that spot. Not surprised they straight set'd again.

Shame we chose this year to be particularly terrible but the comp really isn't strong and there will be opportunity next season.

What the actual **** were Melbourne thinking naming Schache as sub and not putting him on the ground?

I wouldn't bet my life on it, but as a Hail Mary play with 20 to go he would've offered more than McDonald who stinks worse than a Hoboes arse in summer. If nothing else Schache knows how to lead at the ball carrier, thus giving them a direct avenue at goal. I have no idea what McDonald knows.

Better still, given their game is built on the ruck/mids and kpd do what a sane side does and go with a running utility type during what was always going to be punishing final.

Id be ****ing ropable if if was a Melbourne supporter given the amount off hubris their club showed at selection.

Didn't make much sense to me. Hollands had a decent impact when he came on as sub with fresh legs, Melbourne needed the same and didn't have the option. McDonald had 5(?) touches for the game, may as well see if Schache does something.

My guess was that the initial thought process was that they had replaced Van Rooyen with a small so that if Gawn or McDonald went down, they needed a tall to cover as they would have been left very small.

The Gawn/Grundy combination isn't ideal and if everything is going right I'd prefer Gawn to ruck alone but I find it hard to believe that McDonald is offering more to the 22 than Grundy would have.

Everyone and their dog were saying the same thing about us in 2016...

Beat West Coast - "that was their Grand Final".
Beat Hawthorn - "players out on the ground celebrating like it was a Grand Final"
Beat GWS - "boys are in the rooms celebrating like it was a Grand Final".
Beat Sydney in the real Grand Final - "umps were the real winners".

As did we.
Young list, some of our best players under 23, new innovative coach, still plenty of room for easy improvement. It just didn’t happen.

Whether it’s Hope or Hubris it’s a killer.

That's what ppl said. That's not how we were. After preliminary yes, but not semi.

I disagree there was anywhere near the same level of talk coming out of the club post 2016 as Melbourne in 2021. We were a young club so naturally the media spoke about potential for a dynasty and Bevo mentioned the next challenge would be if we could back it up for sustained success. A number of Melbourne players, the coach etc were far more arrogant about it and were the opposite of humble imo.

If anyone can be bothered, there is a post-match interview with Max Gawn on the Melbourne website in which he refers to 'interesting umpiring decisions', and mentions that the club had been through a lot of adversity in the last two years. I'm not sure what type of adversity he is referring to - nothing comes to mind that would be over and above any other team. And commenting on umpires?

There is something very 'different' in the DNA of that football club.

The media with their recency biased goldfish brains talk every grand final winner up as being on the cusp of a dynasty.

After all you're only ever as good as your last game with them.

Spot on. Every single year. Even last year with Geelong they completely ignored the fact they had written them off after 2021. It'll happen again this year and again it'll show how clueless the media actually are.

I suppose he didn't mention touching his own team's goal for a point?

Nick McCallum, Neil Mitchell....reasons to be cheerful...

That snivelling Liberal Party arseh*le Tim Smith is a Melbourne supporter too.

Hope someone kept him away from the red wine and his car keys last night.

Well hopefully now, Melbourne supporters will stop their chirping every time a Bulldogs poster, posts. They are so busy eating their own, and outraged that the 'better team lost', that they will hopefully take their frothing, window licking mouths elsewhere.
