A competent coach would win us the Richmond and Essendon games and half (and probably more) of the Gold Coast, Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane Collingwood, Hawthorn games and we would be sitting 3rd on the ladder. All mediocre teams apart from Sydney (who we lead at half time and let Amartey beat us) and Carlton (who we beat). That's why this season is so frustrating.
We lead at half time against Sydney because they were being wasteful in front of goal and we were sweating their turnovers, which was our entire gameplan. Once Sydney cleaned up in front of goal our avenue to goal largely vanished.

They were beating us onball from the first bounce.

You're right, a better coach probably wouldn't have gone in with such a 1 dimensional loser gameplan.

Not our fault the umpire thought Draper laying on a ball wasn't considered HTB... Brisbane is also far from mediocre, they just started the season slow and have got into their groove now. Collingwood is also the reigning premier...

The Richmond, Geelong and Melbourne losses hurt the most I reckon, should have at least won 2 of 3.
Brisbane were mediocre at the time we played them, also coming off a short break from their previous game, and injury riddled. There is no excuse drawing that game at home.

Amazing GWS got Hogan for a packet of Twisties.... We would never get that lucky...
Two of our most important KPDs came from bargain picks (Murray and Keane).

We unfortunately didn’t need Hogan at the time he was having issues at Freo, but great to see him turn his career around. Would have been a waste of talent otherwise.

Agree with your premise but neither of those two were originally as talented as Hogan.

Curnow with only the 2 touches and no goals, isn't his streak for kicking at least one goal a game at over 70 atm?

8 goals to 2 in the first quarter for Carlton, Giants with 12 of the next 14! Carlton can barely get a ball forward of centre since quarter time
