We didn't have a Dangerfield calibre midfielder to go head to head with Martin. I don't even think it was a choke.

Top of the ladder, dominant finals series, clear favorites heading into the match and up at quarter time.

Then fully shit the bed and choked. Kicked 1 goal 8 in the second and third quarters.

Richmond finished just 2 points below us on the ladder and were playing on their home ground.

That's all hindsight stuff now. Just look at what was said at the time

AFL.com.au and Fox Footy combined had just 7 out of 28 people tipping Richmond. We were also betting favorites and the favorite in most of the mathematical models

And we'd just bullied Geelong in the PF, who had felt like a yardstick we could never cross no matter how good we got.

We literally sat Patrick Dangerfield on his arse!

It felt like a massive coming of age, and GF was well within our grasp.

To lose like that? I agree with Scorpus

This. We were world beaters at home, but our away record that year was nothing to shout about.
A lot of people seemed to think home ground form would just be air lifted onto the MCG (and comfortably beating Richmond earlier in the year would still count for a lot).

At the same time, the performance on the day should have been a lot better than it was.

So Nicks will have to win a premiership to get into 15th?

Simon Goodwin below Voss?

Old Scorpus has some really bad takes and this is another one - I think he must have lost some gambling money to Goody across the journey - or maybe been thrown out of one of Goody's pubs.

Voss - 8 full seasons, 3 seasons making finals, 0 Top 4 finishes, 3 finals won, 182 games coached, 45.1% win rate and zero flags.

Goodwin - 8 full seasons, 4 seasons making finals, 3 Top 4 finishes, 5 finals won, 185 games coached, 56.2% win rate and 1 flag.

Yeah - Grand Finals tend to blow out though. We were pretty close.

Betts gets the free kick for being dragged down in the goal square or Knight keeps his feet and we go into half time 3 points down and with momentum.

With 11 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter Walker kicks the goal and we are 19 points down. In the 2021 Grand Final with 11 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter Bont kicks a goal and WB go up 19 points. They ended up losing by 70+

I've come to peace with the fact those predictions were fair and we just we choked in 2017

Too slow on a big, dry deck during the day. Too tall down back, Greenwood and Talia both selected despite clearly injured, CC injured early, Otten replaced Gov, no flexibility at all. Never a hope against that Richmond side.

15 win season isn’t dominant though. We played 2 good finals at home, but you have to win 3. We kept losing the same way throughout the year and changed nothing.

Chris Scott coaching helped. He started Danger in the goal square and we had a handful before he even saw the ball. Was dumb.

I don’t think it’s purely about win/loss. Could be wrong though.
