Because Gold Coast, GWS, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, St Kilda and North all simultaneously did not have home games. Fixture was stacked to make high drawing games

The two bigger membership SA and WA teams got the home games, the match in Sydney was the grand final replay with no other northern state matches, and there were a couple of huge Victorian blockbusters with high drawing teams at the MCG

So you’re telling me the AFL fixed the Round 1 draw so they could write this pre-canned self-aggrandizing promotional marketing article the day after Round 1?

I don’t believe you. They would never do that!

It's becoming glaringly apparent that the AFL are purely trying to save their ass in a concussion lawsuit.

They should legitimately start making fresh draftees sign a waiver that states you take the field at you're own risk and concussion may occur on field or at Training and we hold no responsibility for any future medical issues.

And 3 concussions in a 12 month period means 6 months on the sidelines.

An I the only one who thought Archers suspension is reasonable? Such a dumb thing to do and was always gonna crash into the dogs players' head regardless if he went to ground or not. The dogs player was low trying to gather the ball. Archer was just throwing his body in recklessly.

Spot on. It was worse (but similar) to SPP taking Keane out in the trial game last year. Didn’t slow or consider the contest in front of him - even though the player couldn’t evade - and just crashed into him.

Whether it’s 2 or 3 is up for debate - but clearly reportable

The player couldn’t evade because he went to ground.

Archer had 1 second to stop at that stage.

Are we actually trying to argue that you can’t sprint to a contest now? FMD

its potentially going to ruin the fabric of the game and theres no easy answer..

the problem with waivers - same as if you go sky diving etc - is they generally arent worth the paper they are written on from a legal perspective due to the (which i believe legally is) 'Duty of Care' provisions from your Employer. Happy for one of the Legal Eagles to confirm but I have heard a lawyer speak about this issue a while ago

When you’re ridiculously late to a contest in football terms, I think it’s reasonable to slowdown and assess a bit?

It’s half a second.
At it’s probably .75 of a second if they don’t go forward? So now he can suddenly make a decision of what to do? The ball was bouncing end on end before they went to ground, is archer going to barrel into a bloke with his head over the ball?
The bloke misread the situation ridiculously.

And the name 😆
The name is a Tassie thing, is it worse than Claude "Curls" Crow? The Devil mascot actually looks good in the flesh ... the fur is made from cut up Tassie School Uniforms from around the state.

This sort of thing will upset some other clubs ... don't remember which team, but one of the current AFL teams references a year don't they?

<EDIT> Mascot names are not a high bar ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mascot_Manor

Never heard Claude called curls, and Claude isn’t great either.
