I just realised we're looking at a potential Showdown GF in the AFLW...

And according to the AFL website, it would be at Norwood Oval. That might be a bad idea. AO not available?
The Mt Barker Oval is available 😃

The rebuild didn't start until after the 17th placed North Melbourne crushed us by 10 goals in 2020, when we had Gibbs, Atkins, Knight, etc in the side.
Ridiculous.

At the end of 2019, the Crows got rid of -

Eddie Betts, Richard Douglas, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Hugh Greenwood, Sam Jacobs, Josh Jenkins, Alex Keath, and Andy Otten.

Eight senior players. And six of them played for another club the following year.

Anyone who thinks deciding to do that WASN'T choosing to start the rebuild - especially when most of those players wanted to stay - is acting the fool.

Depends on which camp you're arguing from .....the "we're 6 years into a rebuild" ....or the "we're 4 years into a rebuild"
Yes, you’re either in sycophants deluded corner thinking we’ve been rebuilding for 6 years or the realists thinking we went rebuild when we finished bottom in 2020 and realised how shit we were and we thought let’s take advantaged of these low picks and rebuild.

Our rebuild has significantly benefited from being shit with the number of low picks, Roo was on record in 2020 when we were shit that the club expected us to be a lot better but the remaining senior players underperformed.

Had we performed better in 2020 we wouldn’t have Thilthorpe for starters.

We did not get rid of Greenwood, Keath and Jacobs we offered them contracts.

Otten and Douglas retired, their AFL careers finished.

Betts and Jenkins fall out from the camp and Betts had he wanted to stay we would have kept him.

Cam Ellis-Yolmen? Really?

Anyone who thinks we were in full rebuild is not acting the fool, is a sucky fool.

How many of that group finished Top 10 in our B&F that year?

I think you'll find the call was made after 2018 season showed this list wasn't able to resurrected .....you have to factor in existing Contracts, which impacts how quickly we can exit players

In 2016/17 we would have been contracting players for an extended run of success

So after 6 full seasons of rebuild, we finished 15th. That's worse.

How many of them were best 22 and being selected every week?

How often do clubs delist eight senior players who are getting regular games?

It's absolutely obvious we were starting the rebuild then. Anyone who doesn't think that has an axe to grind.

JJ and Betts didn't want to stay, Sauce,Otto and Dougie were cooked, the others we offered 2 year contracts + triggers to. We just misjudged how long they had left in the game. Our 2020 list was about a month younger on average than the premier. Plus you're deliberately ignoring the recruiting of mid aged players Crocker, Keays and Frampton.

The only one in your list was Eddie Betts. Every other player played SANFL during 2019.

Can you list these 8 delisted senior players? 2 retired, a 3rd should have, but 4 had contract offers from the club and 2 were pushed out over the camp fallout. And we brought in 3 mature bodies on top of our draft picks, which included 24yo McAdam. Dougie, Otto and Sauce played 17 games between them and lots of SANFL. CEY, Greenwood, Keath and JJ all played SANFL during the year. So of the 5 that could've played on, we tried to cover with 3 mature bodies, 2 of which are still playing, one having a premiership medallion.

What you desperately want to believe just didn't happen, it's that simple.

And he reckons we’ve got an agenda, at least ours opinion is based on facts, he won’t name the 8 as he can’t

He just can’t bring himself to accept that we finished last unless we deliberately made ourselves bad. You have to wonder about the agenda of someone that deletes their long held account because a criticism of club employees could be linked to them.

All you have to ask is this

Do you honestly believe the Adelaide Football Club would willingly embark on a full rebuild, or would they attempt to return to finals in the shortest possible time?

You've presented a pretty solid case that the club mostly moved on players they already weren't playing and attempted to fill the gaps with experience.

It's also indisputable the club were attempting to make finals in 2019.

I think at the end of that season the Crows attempted a soft rebuild in the hopes that they could return to finals quickly but it backfired half way through 2020 which is when they realised the full scope of what was in front of them. Ultimately that led to a full rebuild.

It’s 100% what happened. The club did not expect to be so bad, Roo is on record as saying we had another experienced quality players to be better than we were but they didn’t perform.

Club record losing streak and first wooden spoon, pick 1 and full rebuild was on. Crikey imagine our rebuild if we hadn’t performed so badly, no Thilthorpe, no Rachelle.

You can't genuinely suggest that the club getting rid of eight players - seven of which had been in or around the best 22 - wasn't them acknowledging a rebuild needed to happen.

They could have kept Keath, Greenwood, Jacobs, CEY, Betts, Douglas and Jenkins. All wanted to stay, even Jenkins.

Most clubs would have kept some of them. All were pushed out the door.

Did they think it would be as difficult as it was? Probably not, I think they wanted a softer landing and an easier rebuild. But they soon realised that wasn't going to happen, and it needed to be a more significant change.

I think they wanted an easy soft rebuild. No hard calls, move on a few old players and depth, back in the senior guys on the list, a few high draft picks and some new experience. New coach, camp behind them, back to finals quickly.

I do not believe for one second the club expected to come anywhere near last. Especially with the amount of experience still on the list

So weird seeing David Noble interview in the Shell racing team garage at the Adelaide 500 today. Did not expect to be seeing him in a completely different sport (I know he’s been there a while, still looks weird).

Is there another job available for our current football director...

Is initiating a great deal of change in the next 12-18 months for a team who've not lived up to expectations since Scott McLaughlin left.

Got the change in regs badly wrong last year and Noble got on the front foot with Ryan Storey to rectify it.
